Are you joining us for the 12 Months to a Healthier You Challenge? If so, it’s Friday and guess what that means? It’s time for our weekly check-in to post our progress.
January’s Challenge:
We’re focusing on developing the habit of exercising more in January. I encourage you to set a simple and doable goal for exercise and to stick with it.
If you haven’t set your January Exercise Goal yet, be sure to do so and then leave a comment on this post telling us what your goal is. New to this challenge? Read more details on the plan for this year here.
My Exercise Goal for January
My goal for January is to consistently exercise at least 5 times per week. I plan to follow the P90X workout schedule except for the days when I’m traveling/out of town. On those days, I plan to stick with cardio/running.
This Week’s Progress:
Finally, finally, finally!! I hit my exercise goal this week — yay!
And tomorrow starts a new month… so look for a new challenge post tomorrow afternoon. 🙂

Ooopps, I forgot to check in yesterday after I finished my treadmill workout! I achieved my goal of jogging 30 minutes on the treadmill (3x) and strength/sculpting DVD 40 minutes (2x). That means I achieved my goal for the entire month!!! We’ve been blessed that we haven’t had to battle the flu or colds. Thanks so much for the challenge — it’s been so motivating!

It was a quieter week here near Paris- ( see Crystal, you’re followed all over the world!:))I did a work out every day (even if only a 20 minutes yoga session and some walking on the busiest day). So I kept with my goal. I didn’t run this week in order to rest for my personal challenge un February : I want to run a minimum of 100 km in order to donate 100 euros (1 euro per km) to a humanitarian organisation ( Clowns without borders)! Good Luck to everyone next month! It will be challenging for me!!

I wasn’t able to exercise the 3 times I wanted to this week. I did attend 2 CrossFit classes but then the snowstorm hit and we got buried, and I used this as an excuse to be lazy… But, yesterday I shoveled quite a bit of snow and walked to the store (the car was buried), so I guess it wasn’t too bad.
I’m excited for the next challenge. I need to eat a lot more veggies.

Still working on gaining motivation, and finding time to work out each day. My feet are not completely better, but I am hopeful that I’ll be able to start walking at the gym next week. I think I did Pilates 3 times this week. Need to do more, but I’m determined not to quit just because I had a bad (two) weeks.
Michelle says
I am sad I only got 3 days in this week but I am glad I stuck with the challenge! Thanks again for the motivation!!
Faith says
I feel pretty good about my January goal. I got to the gym at least twice a week all month. I guess I didn’t hit my goal of 3x every week, but that’s ok.
I found a workout buddy to go with and she is a great motivator, and we both are pretty good about not letting the other bail on our gym dates.
Through the more consistent attendance I find I’m enjoying it even more (maybe even looking forward to it? ). I finally see myself actually reaching my Birthday goal: Down to 170 by my 40th in September.
Exciting stuff! 😀

Go, You!!! I’ve been thinking about what we talked about – and doing posts about my goals. I think I’m going to focus those goals posts on self-care and mothering myself this year. I’m excited to work on the first post and to have the community and accountability as I work at making 2014 healthier, restful, and more energized. 🙂 Thank you so much for your friendship and inspiration!
Crystal Paine says
I love it! And thanks for YOUR friendship… so blessed by you!
My kids asked as soon as we left your house yesterday: “Can we please do that again really soon?!” 🙂
Ginger says
My boys said the exact same thing! 🙂 We’d love to do it again anytime y’all are free! 🙂 Oh, and we found a pink sparkly headband that I suspect might belong to one of your young ladies. 🙂
Lety says
Great job, Crystal! I’m also happy to read other reader’s accomplishments. : )
I hadn’t been commenting much because I felt I hadn’t made any progress and felt bad about it. Thankfully, I came to realize I was focusing on the wrong goal this month. I expected myself to jump right in and be disciplined about exercising. I did not take into consideration that this is my first attempt ever at intentional exercise. My goal should have been trying out different routines and seeing what worked best for me. I should have not expected perfection at something I never even practiced. I feel much better about this and will now work on developing a routine.

Better late than never in joining this Challenge! My goal is to dance like no one’s watching for fifteen minutes every day in February! More if I can’t stop. 😀
Jessica says
After I work out today, I’ll have done four of my goal of five workouts for the week.
I’m thinking of trying fit2b exercise videos for pregnant women. Has anyone tried them?
Jenni says
My goal has been to exercise 5 days a week for 30 minutes a day. I had been working on the C25k program and running outside. But we finally got rain here on the west coast! I had to be inventive to get exercise in without tripping over 3 littles. But I did it and the change of routine was fun and challenged different muscles. I have enjoyed this new habit, it makes me feel great!

After my husband told me that my bottom is saggy now…I am o mission to lift my bottom UP!!! SO I’ve been doing squat like crazy!!!
Shelly says
Way to go on getting all 5 days in this week.
I missed one day of exercising this week. We had family come in from out of town and I was busy during my regular exercising time.
Jen says
Had the flu, and still did my usual 6 days. There’s not much that keeps me from my workouts, I’ve been addicted for years!
Joye says
I’ve got one more workout to squeeze in and then I’ll have completely met my goal for the month! I had also set a goal on Wii Fit to lose 12 pounds in three months (about 4/month) and I lost five just in January! Woohoo!

As I mentioned in my book review of Say Goodbye to Survival Mode on my blog, you have really inspired me Crystal to be more proactive in taking care of my health. As a patient with Rheumatoid arthritis, a chronic autoimmune disease that attacks my joints, it is imperative that I eat healthy and exercise to maintain my joint mobility. I joined up with some other bloggers where we support each other through striving for our 2014 goals. In the 12 years since I was diagnosed, I haven’t been able to stick with an exercise routine for long. But with your inspiration, I finally did it in January. I also started tracking what I am eating so that I do better with portion control and have been trying to drink more water. Here’s my January recap mostly related to my health goals. Thanks for giving me motivation I needed to take better care of myself! http://momssmallvictories.com/january-2014-personal-goals-achievements/
Crystal Paine says
Woohoo!!! I am so excited for your success! Thank you for sharing!
Maria says
Made it this week! Next month will be interesting…..
Jessica says
We’ve all had a cold, two trips to the pediatrician in the past week, one to my primary care doctor, and we got “snowed in” for three days due to it being -13F here in Ohio!
Anyway, the past 7 days I have had 69,208 steps. My goal is 70,000 steps. So I was *thisclose* 🙂
Cathy says
Good for you on getting in your workouts!
I have been doing mine as well, 4 so far, and I may not officially exercise tomorrow but I plan to do some very active volunteer work that will have me moving and lifting heavy boxes. This was my 4th week on this workout program (Chalean Extreme) so I’m excited to have finished four weeks of it.
Tiffany says
Once again Crystal, thank you for kicking my butt out of bed every morning this week! No apologies….a sincere thank you! Saying goodbye to survival mode and good morning to a consistent morning routine!
Molly says
Woohoo!! Way to go on hitting your goals this week! I’m loving this challenge! Thanks for helping keep me accountable…. I need all the help I can get. 😀
Beth Cranford says
Yay! Don’t you love finishing strong? I didn’t stick to my schedule but I got my 5 workouts in. I guess that’s what matters most.
Crystal Paine says
Woot!
jen keith says
i saw a short blurb about sparkpeople here on your website & it is helping me stay focused and motivated, thanks so much!
Crystal Paine says
I am so grateful!
Angela says
Crystal, congratulations on meeting your goal. I have one more 30 minutes of exercise to do tomorrow, & I’ll have completed my January goal. Thanks so much for motivating me because January tends to be the hardest time to exercise due to colds & cold weather. Looking forward to keeping this goal up while adding more fruits & vegetables next month.
Crystal Paine says
YAY! So proud of you!
christy says
I am training for a half marathon. We have hit our goals every week with the exception of last week due to sickness. I am looking forward to what you are doing next month.
Crystal Paine says
Way to go!
Sarah says
I didn’t succeed in adding a third workout this week…if fact I ended up with a cold and didn’t get in any of my normal workouts either. 🙁 But it’s ok. Actually, carrying around a 15 lb baby all day probably counts as a workout, right? At any rate, the scale is moving in the right direction, so I’m happy.
Rose says
can you believe it? I now have bronchitis and sinusitis, after just having the flu last week and sinus infection the week before. well, at least I lost a few lbs being sick : (
Crystal Paine says
I am SO sorry you’ve been so sick. 🙁 Not fun at all!
