Today’s Swagbucks success story is from Nikki:
I’ve been a loyal Swagbucks user for several years. I’ve bought Christmas gifts, groceries, and more with the gift cards that I’ve earned in the past. But recently, I’ve turned my focus into DIY projects around the house.
I’m a full-time student, wife, and mother. Needless to say, I’m on a very tight budget.
My husband and I bought our starter home 15 years ago and never moved out. We’ve always lived paycheck to paycheck, and never had money left over to upgrade our house. Fast forward 17 years into our marriage, and now that we’ve learned a lot of things about budgeting and style, we have desire for changes and upgrades, but no budget for it.
That’s where Swagbucks comes in. Swagbucks allows me to buy light fixtures, windows, paint, and more to slowly upgrade my house.
I’m currently remodeling my children’s bathroom and my most recent purchase was a new bath exhaust fan. Because I had a $100 gift card from Swagbucks, I only had to pay $5.93 out of pocket! WOW!
My Daily Swagbucks earning tips:
- As soon as I wake up, I start the Swagbucks Mobile TV App.
- I have the Swagbucks Toolbar installed on all of my browsers and earn 1 point a day from that.
- I take the Daily Poll and NOSO every day.
- Search: I search using the Swagbuck tool bar on both my mobile devices & my computer.
- Encrave: play some videos & earn those Swagbucks! This feature is only available on a computer.
- I always check out Swagbucks Facebook page, Twitter, and Blog for codes that are worth several points.
- Shop & Earn: When I buy anything online, I always use the Shop & Earn link. Swagbucks awards vary but you can earn at least 1 swagbuck for every dollar you spend.
It generally takes me 3-4 months to earn 10,000 Swagbucks or a $100 gift card to my local home improvement store. But it is so worth it, when I can walk into my local home improvement store, and buy that big purchase and hardly have to pay anything out of pocket. I’m currently saving up to buy a new bathroom countertop!

That is so great how you are using your SB for DIY. I created my account in the summer and have only recently been making it a point to do it everyday. I am now at 559 SB, last night alone I got my 30 SB Goal just from searching the web and watching the videos. My goal is for SB to pay for my Xmas next year and other little things. Good luck on your remodeling. I am sure it will be awesome when you are done

Have you noticed any problems with swagbuck mobile TV? Mine just gets stuck saying the video will play after the ad and then never does anything. 🙁

I just got my 1st Android a couple months ago. That’s what the SBTV mobile app does to me most days. Sometimes it does go for some time before getting “stuck.” I’ve cleared the cache, uninstalled/reinstalled the app, & turned the phone off & back on. I don’t think any of those things helped. I contacted SB support & was told there is a new app coming out in about 3 weeks. I’d love any tips anyone has.

Thank you for the info about the new app coming out in 3 wks. About 3 wks ago, the app started acting up for me too. Its very frustrating. Can’t wait for the new app!

Oops! I just read their response again. It says a “few weeks.” Here’s part of the response I received from Swagbucks.
“Please try clearing your cache/cookies, uninstalling/re-installing your app, taking the battery out and restarting your device and ensure that you have a strong internet or WiFi connection for a resolve.
As a friendly reminder, please understand that our mobile apps are fully optimized for mobile phone devices only, not tablets. Therefore you may encounter errors if you are using a tablet. Please understand that we are doing our best to offer fully functioning apps for tablets in the future.
Please also know that within the next few weeks, we will be releasing a new version of our SBTV Mobile App! Your patience is truly appreciated.”
Nicole says
Thanks for the tip about the tablet.

Mine does that too from time to time. You can just close the App and re-open and it should go to the video. It may do it over and over until the ad that’s causing the issue has cycled through.

I love using Swagbucks for DIY projects. I have been remodeling my bathroom myself and have used the Lowe’s giftcards I’ve earned through Swagbucks to pay for it. What I would do is save up for each item I needed. I first saved up for a closet door ($35) Then I saved to buy the vinyl slate tile flooring ($80), then I started working on buying trim pieces ($20) at a time until I finished. I still need to save for the grout so I can tile my bathroom counter. I have tile that were given to me because they were broken, so I plan to do a mosaic pattern with them.
My husband works at Lowe’s so we get a 10% discount and it adds to the savings.
I have other projects around here that I need to work on, so I plan on completing them the same way. I figure I save both ways, by DIY and earning the Swagbucks. I too am a full time student along with my son and daughter. There is NO wiggle room in our budget right now.

That’s awesome! I’m saving for Christmas right now, but after that it’ll be for home improvements!

Once you earn your gift card, you should try buying the item online, with free in-store pick-up, via Ebates and earn money back on your purchase.
For example, last night, I used a $100 discounted Lowe’s card I bought via Ebates and earned 4% ($4) back on my purchase. Plus, my items were waiting for me at the store with no hassle. 🙂
Those additional savings can add up fast!
