I’m so sorry for creating a scare yesterday with the email I posted from a reader on Amazon’s Subscribe & Save Program. And I’m happy to share this email from Mandi from Jungle Deals & Steals that clarifies things:
The S&S comment/question you posted today is absolutely not true.
In your Subscribe & Save orders, you will see the current price of the item, but the order is actually generated on the day you place the order, and that is the price you pay for the item, even if it rises in the meantime. Your email order confirmation also shows the price you’ll pay (although it’s not deducted from your account until the day it ships).
I place between 6-8 S&S orders a month, and I am 100% confident that this is still the way it works. The way to check is to visit the Manage Your Subscribe & Save Orders page.
You’ll see the current price next to each item, but if you click on the item title/description to go to the product page, there is a yellow bar with a link at the top of the page that says “View this order”. Click on that link, and it will show you the price you’re actually paying for the item based on the day your order was placed.
The S&S policy is that you pay the price of the product on the date your order is placed. For your first month, this means the day you create the subscription and place your first order. In subsequent months, the price may vary, but you’ll receive an email confirming the price you’ll pay that month with the option to cancel the order before it ships. -Mandi from Jungle Deals & Steals

I just received my amazon subscribe and save items and the items were billed differently than what I was originally invoiced for. All items were new this month so it was not an ongoing monthly subscription. One purchase was double the price! I have an invoice on the day I placed the order (8-17) for conditioner for 1.10 but was actually charged 2.25. Three other items out of the 6 total were also charged a higher price. What is the purpose of following all these great deals and getting an invoice from Amazon for that price if they are just going to change the price when it ships! Again these are all new monthly subscriptions, if anything the price should of gone down as I hit the minimum for 15% off.

I use Subscribe & Save every month and I have never had a problem and it has always been a great savings for me. I also send Huggies Wipes to my 2 nieces via S&S, directly to them without a problem. I have ordered items on the S&S program and cancelled after one shipment without a problem, ever.

Thanks you SO much for clarifying this for all the readers here. I love Amazon’s subscribe and save program and it saves my family LOTS of money every month. I hated to see so many people being scared away from it yesterday by misunderstanding how the progrm works, and Amazon being given a bad name. So glad this was cleared up and I hope you’ll continue to post the best deals available through Amazon.

It seems that Mandi has different information than the Amazon Customer Service reps that have been talking to frustrated Amazon customers–perhaps Amazon Corporate would be interested in addressing this issue with a plainly-worded statement.

So what this says is if you find a great deal and add it to your S&S, you can only expect to receive that price for the very first shipment. Every shipment after that the price may vary, so check your shipping details before deciding to continue.

Exactly!

This has not been my experience. My last order fluctuated from when I made my order and when it shipped and so I have made no other subscribe and save orders.

Here is from Amazon’s terms. Our price is not fixed!
“The discount you receive for each order will be calculated using the Amazon.com price for the item on the day each order is placed. Therefore, if the price of the item increases or decreases, the amount you’re charged may also increase or decrease.”
“You’ll be charged for each order only when the item is shipped. The amount charged each time will reflect the price of the item on the day the order is processed less the Subscribe & Save discount, plus any applicable sales tax. Pay only for orders that have shipped. A credit card is required for Subscribe & Save orders.”

The price is not fixed AFTER the first shipment. As long you as you cancel your order and resubscribe *each* month, you will receive the price quoted at the time of payment. The payment made for your *first* subscription is immediately charged (I just verified this by checking my credit card statement for an order I placed last week that won’t be delivered for 2 more weeks). I also have a long history with using subscribe and save. I *never* allow subscriptions to carry over to the following month, and I *always* receive the price quoted at the time of purchase.
I think folks are confusing two separate issues (first time subscriptions vs. running subscriptions). It’s true, if you do not cancel your order after your first subscription is processed, subsequent orders will be based on the price available at the time of shipment. Why should Amazon honor a price *every* month for a great deal we get on a month. Obviously that would not be a sustainable business practice. Sorry, but I hate to see folks getting scared out of taking advantage of a wonderful opportunity to save money on useful products because they don’t understand the program. 🙁

Won’t Amazon catch on if someone is signing up for Subscribe and Save, cancelling after the first order, and re-signing up? Can you clarify that for us? I would like to use this program more, but want to avoid price increasing. Thanks!
Crystal says
No, they say you can cancel at any time for any reason.
