Ever have shopping trips that feel pretty much like a bust? That was my shopping trip at Dillon’s (Kroger affiliate) today.
I stopped by because I was hoping to pick up some of the free Veggie Chips. But alas, the Veggie Chips were priced at $2.99 (if I’m remembering correctly. Whatever it was, it was definitely not $0.99!). I’m hoping maybe they go on sale tomorrow when the new ad comes out?
In addition, I was hoping to pick up some $0.99 Finish Powerball Tabs. But the Finish was on the very top shelf and all the ones with peelies on them were at the very back of the shelf and impossible for a short person like me to reach.
I thought about asking for someone to help me, but there were no tall people in sight and I hated to flag down someone at the store to get them for me just so I could get the ones with peelies on them… since there were plenty without peelies on right within easy reach. I guess I have limits as to what I’ll do for the sake of saving money — especially if it involves a little bit of a strange request from a store worker. 🙂
But I did find the Rice Dream priced at $2.29 and I still had the $2/1 coupons. I know it’s supposed to be free at Walmart and that you can make your own Homemade Rice Milk for pennies, but I was planning to use rice milk in the Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free waffles tonight, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to pick them up. And then at least my trip wasn’t entirely in vain.
Sometimes, my shopping trips don’t turn out like I plan, but that’s okay. One good thing is that the not-so-good shopping trips make the great shopping trips seem even better! 🙂

I have reached many items for people, always glad to help those with height challenges. Height comes in handy for reaching items on high shelves however shopping for jeans can be terrible….give and take I guess.

I always feel this way when I go to Target. Most of the time they are out of the stuff to get the good deal on. I end of getting so stressed out trying to get the coupon deals and managing a preschooler and newborn that I about have a nervous break down. Then I get the cashier that automatically turns on her help light when she sees coupons- even when the manager comes I still have to fight with them to get my deals.

I struck out just this morning at Target! They were out of the bread that was on sale for $1, I couldn’t find the toothpaste, and they didn’t have the bags of frozen chicken I was after! It’s the only Target in a 75 mile radius though, so sometimes I just have to be quick! I did find some skorts on clearance for my 5 year old so at least the trip wasn’t a complete waste.

Awe, Crystal, I totally would have reached up to that top shelf to get those Finish tabs for you if I’d been there. I get this request often as I’m shopping (I’m 5’10”), and I love to help out other shoppers.

You’re so sweet. And on behalf of short people everywhere I say thank you. 🙂

You can make rice milk, coconut milk and almond milk in your vitamix. I haven’t tried it yet but i just stumbled across those recipes in the book. I may try them when i come across a recipe that calls for them.

I have to ask for help with things on the top shelf all the time!

Being short is terrible for reaching that stuff on the back of the top shelf! I usually try to grab a long item and end up swinging it like a loon at the items on the shelf trying to sweep them forward. Sometimes someone taller spots me and offers to help. They probably think I am crazy. They are probably right. 🙂

I’m 5’3″ and I climb the shelves to reach stuff. I can never find an employee when I need one.
Crystal says
I tried climbing the shelf, but it was up so high and back so far I was afraid I would end up hurting myself or straining my back or something — and I figured that wasn’t worth saving a few dollars for. 🙂
Yes, I just might be a chicken… or overly cautious! 😉

I am 5ft tall so I can relate to not reaching items! I’m often climbing on the lowest shelf (even in the freezer area) or asking someone for help. Would help to bring along my 6ft5in husband along but I prefer to shop alone : ) . And I too have shopping trips every now and then where I can’t find most things I went in for.

I so would have flagged someone down to the Finish. I’m super short too (5’0″), but I don’t feel guilty about it. Either I flag down a man or a worker. I don’t feel bad about flagging down the workers or even telling them at the register, after all it is their job. Sometimes they do not realize that it truly isn’t accessible to so many people.
But, I love how you didn’t just the get items that weren’t on sale because you’d planned to buy them, regardless of them not being on sale. Way to focus on needs rather than just things we want and not everything is a deal 🙂

We all have those days, don’t we. And it does make the shopping trips where all the coupons/ ads/ deals stack well seem so sweet. Waffles for dinner, sounds like a plan we will use here too.
