I took a lot of pointers from your 31 Days to a better grocery budget videos! My favorite tips were about how you meal plan and your buy ahead principle…great stuff! Here’s what I came up with….hoping to reduce our grocery bill and have fun with cooking at the same time.

I’ve done my once-a-month-shopping(http://momsfrugal.blogspot.com/2013/04/highlights-from-aprils-once-month.html), so I can’t wait to get to some freezer cooking!
You’ve got some great goodies planned for the freezer! Gotta try those ChocPB Bars!

If I were you I would only use one chipotle in the soup, those things are hot!

I know that many of the budget friendly recipes I see contain beans and my husband will not eat beans of any kind, No refried beans, not kidney beans, no black beans….no beans. Is there a good substitute for beans????
Crystal says
Hmm, not that I know of. But there are many other budget-friendly recipes out there that have rice, potatoes, etc.
Maybe some other people have some ideas for you?
Lora says
You could try Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP) as an inexpensive protein source. It’s flavorless, so it will pick up the flavor of your spices/other ingredients.

I use your pizza crust recipe weekly. Instead of freezing the uncooked dough I roll out personal size pizza portions and partial bake the crust at 500 degrees for 3 mins. Then allow them to cool completely on a cooling rack. Once cooled they are wrapped in foil and frozen until I need one or two. To cook I preheat the oven to 450 degrees, add toppings to the frozen crusts and bake for 10-12 minutes. These are a staple for my kids.

I’m posting a no knead sandwich bread recipe and tutorial, similar to this one, on my blog next week. I make it in a shoe box, let it rise for 2 hours and then divide the dough into 3-4 loaf pans. It’s great to make mini-loaves for kiddos. Hope you’ll stop by and check it out, momonamission.me

This week I was lazy and didn’t get to my 5 week menu planning so I just searched the cupboards and freezer and came up with a one week meal plan for this week.

I’ve noticed that you have Mac & Cheese often for lunch, do you make homemade Mac & Cheese & if so, can you share the recipe?
Crystal says
I’ve tried unsuccessfully to find an amazing mac and cheese recipe. Until I do, we use Annie’s.
Kami says
I don’t know if you have any food restrictions but I just posted this Mac & Cheese recipe that’s yummy! It’s also really quick and easy to make.

Looks great! I made a big slow cooker filled with bean/corn soup and was going to freeze…then my neighbors daughter has a broken ankle so, I think I will send half of the soup over there 😉 Btw… I think you need an “s” in the title (” it’s the perfect week”) 🙂 Just saying 🙂

Ya think?!? I was so embarrassed to catch that typo when I came back to blogging this afternoon — oops!

Here’s what we’ll be having. Been having such fun planning menus around what comes in our box of produce, and having stuff in the freezer is so helpful on busy weeks like this!

I’m impressed with how much cooking you get done on a regular basis even when you’re busy attending conferences. 🙂
Here is our meal plan for the week:

I had a freezer cooking session this past weekend, so I’ll start benefiting from that later in the week.
Crystal says
Well, don’t be too impressed since I skipped freezer cooking last week. 🙂
But truthfully, I enjoy it, so it’s usually something I’d much rather do over tackling other projects that maybe I *should* be doing. 😉
shawna says
Are the lunches on your plan ones you send to school with your kiddos?
Emily says
Shawna,
Crystal homeschools her children so they would eat these lunches at home.

I have got to try the Whole Food No bake cookies they recipe looks yummy. I pinned like 3 of the recipes above. Now to remember to print them off and try them. I wanted to try one new recipe a week this year but I feel off the band wagon very quickly. I am thinking next year I need to put more action into the planning of such a goal.
