Thanks, Crystal! I decided to check out the website and ended up entering 90% of my tax information! Just waiting on a few more forms. Always a relief to get the taxes filed and not have to worry about that for another year.

      Oh yay!

Is it free for both the Federal and State or just the Federal filing? Usually you have to pay extra for the state filing.

Heads up- that’s for a Federal 1040ez, no kids, no self employment, just w-2′s. And the accuracy guarantee applies only to calculations, not the entire return. As long as you enter the information correctly- guaranteed. Whole return? Not guaranteed for accuracy.

Thanks Nikki! On these kind of things there often seems to be a catch. I’ve tried the free Federal thing before and the charge for the state return is often more than a minimal charge.

I didn’t get the impression that it was only the EZ. I have dependents, mortgage and other deductions and I was only going to have to pay if I wanted to upgrade. There is a fee for state.

The negative thing about this (if it is like it was in the past) is you can’t print on paper to view your return before you file….I have done our taxes since we married in 2004 and used Tax Cut every year. If yours is simple, then go for it. If you have to enter mortgage, home office, or anything slightly complicated and want to proof for mistakes before you file, this is not for you. I always compare my current year to the last year’s forms because they are usually identical and have found errors before that were made by checking one box online incorrectly…..I do like the H&R Box Home Deluxe….when I lived in the same state as my mom, we bought it and split it between the two of us and several other friends (they can’t see your personal information when you pass it on) with the 5 free federal e-files. When you coupon the software at Target (i got $10 off and a $10 giftcard which made the software $29) and divide by 3 or more, your cost for federal is down to $10 a piece or less! State adds on ~$20 to e-file but you can always file paper and pay $6 to mail certified return receipt.
