Why I Won’t Be Out Shopping on Black Friday

I don’t go out shopping on Black Friday.

I know, I know. That statement might sound a bit antithetic to my usually frugal, money-saving ways, but it’s true.

Here’s why: The Black Friday deals online are usually just as good, or even better, than the in-store deals.

Yes, seriously. And I’ve proven this theory throughout the past few years by meticulously comparing the prices online versus the prices in-store. In almost every case, the online prices were better than the in-store prices.

Plus, you don’t have to wait out in the cold for three hours, and you can avoid all the stampeding and shoving crowds at the stores. Instead, you can get up a little early on Friday morning, sit in your PJ’s, sip your cup of coffee, and browse online.

There are other perks to shopping online for Black Friday… click on over to CrossWalk to read four reasons why I shop online on Black Friday.

I agree with you on not going to stores on Black Friday…and this coming from a former (before being a SAHM) Mgr of a MAJOR retailer who I know is open today! I can still recall that knot in my stomach as I woke up at 2AM to be at the store to get bombarded by the consumer who literally pushed us employees aside as they ran, yes ran, to get that “great deal!” I get it, business is business…and I like brick store shopping, but I also like the click shopping too! This year I decided to do a combo of both…I put a few items that I wasn’t sure if they were going to be better on BF or Cyber Monday on layaway and will just watch the prices. If they go below what I have already set, I will buy or pricematch otherwise I will let my items sit on the shelf and collect dust until I am ready to pay in mid December knowing that I am not running around trying to find an item that is soldout most places. And I will be here tomorrow…can’t wait! :) Thanks for all you do!

We’ve already discovered that! My husband was eyeing a fax/copier/scanner/printer for $40 and turns out that was the same price online + free shipping and cashback from ebates made it a better deal & we didn’t have to fight any crowds!

In addition to your 4 reasons I would also add, it’s soooo much easier when you have young children. I wouldn’t want to wake them and take them out at that crazy hour, plus it would be hard to shop for them if they’re with me anyways.

    Crystal,
I’ve been following your blog on a regular basis for about 5 years now, and I just want to say thank you so much for all you do here to encourage, inspire and also- of course- help us to save $$! I’ve never enjoyed shopping, so I’ll likely never be at the stores on Black Friday. My new tradition the last few years has been to shop online and grab some of the deals you post on here (thanks for the Kohls one yesterday, awesome!). This blog has saved me a lot of money. Thanks again and Happy Thanksgiving!

I really, really, really want to get my daughter an iPod Touch 4th Gen 16GB. The only price I find online is $199 or so. But Target has them for $195 + a $40 Target Gift Card. I wanted to go, but the lines an hour before the store opening were crazy. I will be so sad if I can’t find one for her, it’s all she’s asked for. I set a budget of $50 for each of my kids and my daughter has been saving for over a year and has $100 to put towards it, so I really need to find another deal. Please help!

Does it have to be a new Ipod touch? If not, look on Ebay! There are some great deals for ones that look brand new and you can erase anything that is already on it.

I love going out on Black Friday. I rarely buy anything. I’m done with all of my shopping – but my mom, my grandma, my aunt and cousin go together every year. We get out of the house at about 5am and shop until noon when we go eat lunch together.

I just like the tradition part of it all!

I don’t do Black Friday either. I’ve never seen any deal or sale that would make it worth dealing with the crowds and the time-suck that they represent. My time has value also.

I agree 100%! I have never gone shopping on black Friday. All of the stories about crazy shoppers drives me nutty. I consider myself good at finding an online bargain so I love being able to get great deals online instead of braving the craziness. I also love blogs that direct me to the best deals. Thanks!

We used to go about 15 or so years ago before things got ultra crazy. My husband usually works on Black Friday and he goes to buy some new work shoes. He’s kind of funny about it. He doesn’t stand in horrific lines but he’s pretty amused by all the goings on. I stay at home with Sweet Peanut and enjoy the day. I’ll be checking out your cyber party though. ;)

Our day after Thanksgiving is spent putting fall decor away, cleaning up and starting our Christmas decorating. I’ve never done Black Friday either….I worked retail in college and it was so nutty and crazy on that day that it just turned me off. I am in comfy clothes right now, Christmas music playing, getting ready to have a snack-y lunch with kids and hubby and starting to pull out Christmas decorations. It’s a good day!

This just made me feel a lot better, as I have gone out for black friday the past 4 years and was unable to this year. Thanks. I don’t think I’m missing much of anything.
