Here’s a little bit of a humorous way to pay off your mortgage:
BOSTON (CBS) – He says it became an obsession, but a 35-year-old dream became a reality for a Milford man as he paid off his mortgage with pennies.
“It started out as a joke,” says Thomas Daigle. “I said I’m going to pay the last mortgage payment off on this place in pennies.”
This man gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “every penny counts”!

When I was the teller manager at a bank, I received a call one day from one of our commercial customers– an auto dealership. The owner was calling for help because he had a customer come in to pay cash for a truck and he didn’t know how to proceed– the man had $17,000 in pennies… 34 thousand rolls of them. It was one of the craziest, but also most inspiring, things I ever had to deal with while working there!

I read this article and was so happy for the man and his wife. Really shows what all of us can do if we put our efforts in the right direction. We are in the middle of “penny counting” and trust it works for us to be completely debt free sooner than later.

Love it! I pick up sidewalk pennies and add them to my coin jar. I cash the jar in once each year and use the proceeds for charity. I’ve donated the amount (in check form) to Red Cross, Toys for Tots and other worthy organizations.
I have a new goal! I love it!
I think this was cute, but I think it would have been better to pay it off as he had the pennies because of interest.
This is so so funny! I love it! What a way to celebrate freedom . . . . Honestly, I didn’t know it was possible to pay off a mortgage with pennies, but it is currency I guess! Thanks for the share!

My dad tried to pay his property taxes in pennies and they flat out refused to accept them

My father in law collects all he’s coins. Think he wanted a laptop so we counted all he’s quarters he had about 200 in quarters . He paid some w cash but he got a laptop .
That was my thought too! What a pain for the bank tellers to deal with!
800lb of pennies is less than $1500 even with the newer lighter pennies so they either didn’t owe much on the mortgage or there’s an error in the article. Cute idea anyway ; )
One of the first lines of the article says that the goal was to pay the last mortgage payment with pennies. It sounds like they didn’t pay it off early.

He paid off his last mortgage payment in pennies, which was very possibly under $1,500. I don’t think that was an error in the article!
We diligently saved our change every year. Once a year we would roll it and pay it on our mortgage. We have been debt free for over 6 years now and will never go back owing any man again!!!
It was just their last mortgage payment — not the entire mortgage!
I’ll be making my last house payment later this year. I better start saving pennies
