I do this by using a glass pyrex bowl in microwave and covering it with a microwaveable plate cover (with small slits in it) or an upside down plastic colander. I have heard the glue that holds paper bag together can cause microwave to catch on fire and/or leak chemicals into your popcorn. Yikes!

My favorite recipe is 1/3cup kernals, 1 tb melted butter or margarine, sprinkled with garlic salt. Mix this up and then put in microwave. Takes 4-5minutes. No need to add butter afterwards. Has great flavor and low in calories/fat. :)

I’m with ya, Casey- we use a Pyrex and it works beautifully. Paper bags are not foodsafe, so when you use it you’re ingesting some pretty nasty stuff, not to mention the fire risk. It’s not saving money if it’s dangerous.

We do this all of the time! :) We use paper bags but we did see a reusable glass container just for this use online…

Casey is exactly right. You are not ever supposed to use a paper bag in the microwave. Unfortunately my grandmother did this once and much of her kitchen caught on fire. Fortunately she wasn’t hurt too badly.
Just a fair warning so no one else experiences that!!

I had to try this, its yummy I don’t like Plain popcorn or even buttered but sweet, yummy. I will do as others suggested and not use a paper bag, one suggested using her pampered chef micro bowl which I have I don’t like the idea of a fire, and it bugs me to waste the paper bag, silly I know but once used like this you cant even recycle it!

Ohhh, good idea! I use a paper bag to pop corn all the time, but never thought of putting anything in it! I’m gonna try this tonight….. if I can find a good movie! :)

I just tried this in a glass pampered chef mixing bowl with the cover on loosely and it worked great! I had been doing it on the stove but it takes a long time and is messy. This worked great in under 4 minutes. My kids liked it too. We eat so muc h microwave popcorn this is a lifesaver!!

While I can certainly understand the concern of fire, I believe the risk is pretty minimal, especially considering that the commercial brand microwave popcorn is in a paper bag. The only difference is that commercial producers add a metallised film to evenly melt the “toppings”. As others suggest, you could use a bowl with vented lid if you are seriously concerned.
