If I only owned a French press…

Just brew strong coffee in a regular percolator machine!

Laura October 4, 2011 at 1:05 pm

Agreed! I don’t even own a coffeemaker. Maybe it would be a wise investment considering how much I love fancy coffee beverages!

Look at garage sales or on craigslist- we got ours for $4 & actually saw a couple more for sale too. I think it’s one of those things people get for weddings or whatnot & don’t end up using.

I like it much better than my percolator too and doesn’t really take much more time either.

My first one came from Goodwill and I used it until I broke it. They are less than $20 at Target though, if you can’t find one! So nice when you want a fancy drink midday!

That looks delicious!

If you don’t have a coffeemaker yet and you have small children, I strongly reccomend getting one with a stainless steel carafe. We broke not one, but TWO glass coffee pots when my toddler tried to ” help” me unload the dishwasher! lol :) (Seriously, it happened once, we bought a new one, and then 2 days later it happened AGAIN!) So no more glass coffee pots for us! lol

You definitely don’t need one, I just find it is easier to prepare since I am usually only making this for myself. You can make an extra strong coffee (double the grounds that you normally would use) for this in your regular old coffeepot! I hope that helps!

I highly recommend Medaglia D’oro Instant Espresso Coffee. It has a nice, rich flavor that you can’t get with regular, instant coffee or strong brewed coffee.

David Bach would be so proud of you.;0) Making beverages at home has the added bonus of controlling the sugar in it.

Perhaps even more amazing is the link for the sea salt dark chocolate brownies. Yum!

This looks absolutely delicious!! I would give anything to be snuggled under a blanket, watching Food Network, and sipping on one of these beauties!

Yum! Here is one for do it yourself Pumpkin Spice Latte:

1. Make coffee (a pot, a cup, in whatever fashion and however you prefer making your coffee. The stronger the better)

2. Make Pumpkin Milk

1 c milk (I used almond milk but use any kind you want from half and half to rice milk)

1/4 heaping cup pumpkin puree (more if you really love pumpkin)

2 tsp pumpkin pie spice blend

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp vanilla extract

sweetener of choice, to taste (I suggest 2 tbsp agave or 2 tbsp brown sugar or a pinch of stevia to taste; or try honey, maple syrup, etc. to taste)

Optional: pinch of ground nutmeg, ginger, garam masala, cardamom, or other warming spices to taste

Directions: Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and whisk well by hand or blend all ingredients using a Vita or blender

Optional: Warm the finished pumpkin milk mixture in the microwave or on the stovetop (I do a quick nuke of about 1 minute)

3. Pour 1 c of brewed coffee into a mug and pour half the pumpkin milk mixture over the top of the coffee and enjoy. (Optional: Finish by garnishing with real whipped cream/whipped topping such as CoolWhip or TruWhip; and a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice/cinnamon on top)

The other half of the pumpkin milk mixture is for the refill you know you will want. If you truly don’t want a refill, refrigerate it for up to a few days and use for your next latte, in a smoothie, or drink it as is. As long as you’re dirtying dishes, I always make a little extra for refills or for later.

Finding Starbucks recipes are life changing! Thank you!

Amy B October 4, 2011 at 9:41 pm

Does anyone know of a homemade Peppermint Mocha recipe? That is my only love at Starbucks! :)

Aberline October 5, 2011 at 10:06 pm

I just make a mocha and stir it with a candy cane!

Kat October 7, 2011 at 10:33 am

I brew regular coffee and stir in a white chocolate hershey kiss with peppermint. I buy a bunch of bags at Christmas and use them year round. I hope this helps. :)

Amy- I have a frappe version that I am planning to recreate a hot version of this winter: http://momadvice.com/blog/2007/06/my-vice-starbucks-iced-peppermint-mochas/

I actually just tried making my own coffee creamer with mixed results! It was a fun project but not really a money saver. I’m going to look for more recipes but if anyone is interested in the one I used it’s very easy and if you already had the stuff on hand (I didn’t, but you might!) it would be a much better deal.
