MoneySavingMom.com Reader Meet-up in Indy

FavoriteLoadingAdd to my favorites

by Crystal on August 19, 2011

When I mentioned last Monday that I was going to be in Indy this weekend, a few readers commented and asked if we could have a meet-up. Ruth helped me scout out some possible locations and I emailed all the readers who had commented and left their email addresses.

Thursday evening, we all met at a Starbucks downtown in Indy and it was so much fun! We shared couponing stories and where to find the best deals in Indiana (I’ll admit to being a little more than jealous at the Marsh triple coupon deals!), we talked about crazy money-saving adventures we’ve had, we exchanged helpful blog links, and we laughed a lot.

I came away with some great tips on how to get stains out of laundry with homemade laundry detergent and also inspiration to try making my own homemade peanut butter. And after a few hours with these ladies, I really wished I could move to Indiana. They were some of the sweetest ladies ever and I feel so blessed that I got the chance to hang out with them for a few hours.

Most of the gals don’t have blogs, but two do, so be sure to stop by and visit Fat Chick Fed Up and Newlywed Trek (also pictured is Stacie from Motherhood on a Dime and The Amazing Mess — my good real-life friend from Kansas! I didn’t miss anyone else who has a blog, did I?)

Whatever happened to the “maybe” trip to Dallas that you mentioned a while ago? LOL Looks like you guys had fun :)

Crystal August 19, 2011 at 11:34 pm

We’re going in September for the wedding of some very special friends, but I couldn’t get the meet-up details worked out since over 150 people wanted to come! :(

Rae August 19, 2011 at 11:37 pm

oh wow that’s a lot! lol. Oh well, I hope you enjoy your visit and the wedding :D

Cris August 20, 2011 at 1:56 pm

Oh I wish it could have worked out as I live in the area and work in Dallas… I would go for sure!!

Jen August 20, 2011 at 3:32 pm

You could have sort of a giveaway, or contest to select a more reasonable number of readers to meet with. Maybe 10 – 20?

I don’t live in Dallas… just a thought. :)

Tricia August 20, 2011 at 12:07 am

The next time you come to Branson, I would love to meet up with you, and I have some friends who would love to also! We live close to there and LOVE your blog!!

Jenny August 20, 2011 at 8:31 am

I agree about the Branson/ Northern Arkansas meetup!

Davonne August 20, 2011 at 12:17 am

What a fun idea!!! I never would have thought to e-mail you and ask to meet up since I figure a ton of people do that and you don’t have time to meet everyone :) I don’t live near Indy (I live in north-eastern KY), so I don’t feel like I missed out since I couldn’t have gone anyways, but I seriously love this idea and if you ever publicize that you will be in my area, I am DEFINITELY going to e-mail you and ask to meet you in person – we even have a Starbucks and everything! Thanks for sharing – I enjoyed this post :)

Dara August 20, 2011 at 12:49 am

Crystal, my name is Dara. I’m work for Liberty University. I’m an avid reader of your blog. I have been so busy working with women of faith I didn’t realize you were attending until
I caught up on my tweeter feed. If you have a chance…I’d love to meet you. :) Just stop by the Liberty booth anytime. I can even give you some freebies! I hope you are enjoying the conference!

Crystal August 20, 2011 at 7:43 am

I’ll try to do that today!

Audrey August 20, 2011 at 2:29 am

Love the fact that you met up w/ readers while in Indy. What a wonderful adventure you are on . . . you get to save money for your family, help others to do so as well, and make friends too!

ErinL August 20, 2011 at 7:47 am

That looks like so much fun! If you ever have a Michigan meet-up, I’d love to see you! :-)

Kim @Going Thrifty August 20, 2011 at 7:50 am

How fun! Come to South Florida, bring your flip flops and we will sit at the beach and collect shells for a busy bag for Silas.

It’s special to make those connections in person. What a blessing.

Julie in IN August 20, 2011 at 7:54 am

Oh wow you were in Indiana and I didn’t know!?!? That would have been a great get together. Any hot tips on saving money at Starbucks? I usually get a free cup with my empty Starbucks bag.

Nicole August 20, 2011 at 8:06 am

looks like a lot of fun :) I live in the Southern part of Indiana :)

Valorie August 20, 2011 at 8:17 am

I’d love to do a meet up if you ever come to Dayton Ohio. Though I don’t recommend it! lol~ Dayton is kinda boring and with the economy its fall apart quickly! :/
But the indy meetup looks like fun! :) I could use some girl time meeting for coffee! :)

Kacie August 20, 2011 at 8:17 am

Aw man! I am sad that I missed this. Didn’t see that post. I live in Indy now, so if you are here again maybe I can go to the next meetup!

Lynnette August 20, 2011 at 8:20 am

Crystal,
Looks like a blast! I haven’t met too many of my blog friends, but I have met a few. :) I’m looking forward to having that coffee with you too! I’m glad you only live a hop, skip and a jump away so it won’t be too difficult to work out. ha!
Have a lovely weekend.
Lynnette

Crystal August 22, 2011 at 7:42 am

Looking forward to meeting up with you, too!

Darla Berry August 20, 2011 at 8:23 am

I’m sad to have missed this as well!! Will have to keep my eyes peeled for the next time around!!!

Wani August 20, 2011 at 8:37 am

I wish I would have known about the meetup! I’d have been there! Glad you had fun. ;-)

Kari August 20, 2011 at 8:39 am

Too bad I live in northern Indiana. Looks like it was a ton of fun!

The Chick @ Fat Chick Fed Up August 20, 2011 at 9:01 am

Thanks Crystal for the mention! I wondered why my viewers went up all of a sudden, lol! It was SO great to meet you-you are even more fabulous in person. So down-to-earth and you make everyone feel at ease. I should have got your autograph lol!

For the above commenter-on saving money at Starbucks, I wish I had some good tips. The special they ran last year for half-price frappacinos was awesome! I hope they do it again. If you go there frequently, you can use swagbucks to earn gift cards to there. There is also another “points” site that I just found out about called dailyfeats.com. You earn point for various “feats” you do throughout the day to improve your life or someone else’s life. You can easily earn 200-300 points a day and I think a $10 Starbucks gift card is 3000 points. (Don’t quote me on that but I think that is what I saw yesterday).

Of course, now that I am working on my weight, my favorites at Starbucks are totally off-limits (mocha frappucino anyone? Yes, please.) Plus, since my hubby lost his job a few weeks ago, I’ve had to be cut-off, lol. So this was a great treat-thanks again Crystal!

Amanda August 20, 2011 at 9:29 am

Thanks for linking to my blog! It was pretty fun waking up to a huge traffic spike.

Sarah R August 20, 2011 at 9:37 am

Saw you were coming but missed the meetup details. I live just west of the airport in Plainfield :) I heard you yell this morning when they asked who was from Missouri! Aren’t you loving the conference!!

Jessica @ The Abundant Wife August 20, 2011 at 9:49 am

I’m so jealous! I’m moving from Maryland to California, about 40 minutes outside of Sacramento. If you’re ever in the area, we should meet up! :)

Gretchen August 20, 2011 at 10:28 am

Ah, I wish I had known about it too – I would have loved to met up with you! I am only about 15 minutes from downtown.

MyFriendsCallMeNate! August 20, 2011 at 1:15 pm

Where was I! We live on the northside of Indy…I stock your blog I mean read your blog all the time.

Maybe next time :0)

Crystal August 20, 2011 at 4:46 pm

I didn’t announce it publicly because it was such a last-minute thing and I had to keep it small due to space issues. Maybe next time!

Britni @ Our Eventual Homestead August 20, 2011 at 10:28 am

That looked like a very enjoyable evening! If you ever make it to Central Ohio let me know, I’d love to meet up with like-minded gals and share tips and stories!

miranda August 20, 2011 at 10:46 am

I live in northern indiana, but i would have driven to indy to meet you :) i love your blog!

Gretchen August 20, 2011 at 11:12 am

Sorry to have missed this! I would have been there as well! :)

Jenny August 20, 2011 at 11:21 am

I live in Indy and would have loved to meet you in person. I would never have thought to try and get some of your time while you were here. So great of you to spend time with readers and so sad I missed it. I read your site top to bottom everyday and it has changed how I live so much. Maybe next time! Add me to your Indy friends. :)

Laura@HeavenlyHomemakers August 20, 2011 at 12:22 pm

How fun! Glad you got to do that in Indy. And yes, you must try making peanut butter – it’s so easy and extremely delicious! Here’s how I make mine: http://heavenlyhomemakers.com/how-to-make-peanut-butter

Angie August 20, 2011 at 12:27 pm

I live in Indiana, and my neighborhood is right behind a Marsh grocery store. Although I walk there several times a week for fresh produce, I wouldn’t be jealous of the triple coupon events at Marsh.

First, they’re few and far between, second, all the hot deals are gone almost INSTANTLY, and third, their prices are rather high to begin with. You’re not missing much :)

Coupon Frugality August 20, 2011 at 12:38 pm

Wow, what a great opportunity for you all to meet up !!! It looks like you all are having so much fun!! Nothing like good conversation and a cup of Joe!!

Angela August 20, 2011 at 2:13 pm

Wow! It’s clear I need to start reading again. I wouldn’t have been in town to meet up with you, but wish I would have been around.

Marisa August 20, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Whoo Hoo! LOVE downtown Indy! So glad you got to enjoy the city a bit and meet up with some gals! Sooo fun to have some girl time!!

LOVE your blog! Sooo many practical things that have helped me so much!

Rylie August 20, 2011 at 4:51 pm

I stopreading your blog for a few days because of my busy schedule, and I find out I was in downtown Indy the same day you were. I might have even passed the same Starbucks lol. I bet you guys had a lot of fun. :) I love your blog by the way!

robbie @ going green mama August 20, 2011 at 5:22 pm

Awww. This is what I get for being largely off line all week! Would have loved to join the group!

Susan (FrugaLouis) August 20, 2011 at 5:51 pm

So very fun!! Let us St. Louisans know when you’re heading our way too. :) Of course, I’ve already gotten to meet and chat with you, but it’d be fun to do so again sometime. And an excuse to get in girl time at Starbucks is always welcome. ;)

Erika from Coupon Kutters August 20, 2011 at 6:33 pm

Bummer! I used to live in Inday , and now live 3 hrs from there. When I read last week you were going to Indy–I thought about contacting you to meet up—but didn’t you to think I was a stalker–considering I don’t officially “know” you. Then, read on here–a bunch of people did and you met up. This is twice now that you have passed through my area… ( I also am 2 hrs from Chicago)…..so, if you ever are anywhere in the area again ( I live by the IN/MI stateline)–let me know….lol!

Jodi August 20, 2011 at 6:55 pm

So sad I missed this! I live in Indy!!!! How did I not see that! Oh well! Glad you had fun!

Amanda August 20, 2011 at 7:25 pm

Looks like fun!

kathy August 20, 2011 at 9:15 pm

Sounds like you had a wonderful time. Would love to know how to make the homemade laundry detergent. I bring my children’s clothes to consignment and am always trying to find good stain removers.

Shannon Hartman August 20, 2011 at 9:39 pm

when we heard your tweet yesterday we were so excited, my friend and I actually squealed that you were there! Then my friend (who works for WOF) said that you were sitting right on the other side of the camera man from us and I was so bummed I never saw you to say hi! I’m a big fan! :) Hope you enjoyed the weekend, it was fantastic!

Crystal August 22, 2011 at 7:43 am

I would have loved to get to meet you!

Jennifer Lutz August 20, 2011 at 10:19 pm

You were at Women of Faith! Me, too! My cup is so filled tonight! I hope it was a great weekend for you!

Christi @ My Evansville Mommy August 20, 2011 at 10:49 pm

I live in southern Indiana and must say, I am jealous of the triple coupons deal too because where I am we don’t even have any double coupon stores except for one that does it occasionally as a special promo!

I hope you’ll share about the homemade peanut butter venture if you try it… that sounds really neat!

Angie August 22, 2011 at 6:21 pm

Would’ve loved to meetup with the other Indy ladies, but considering I’m super preggo, I know I would’ve never made it there anyhow :)
I am happy to see the links to other Indy bloggers and will check them out right now…

Marcela August 21, 2011 at 7:54 pm

Crystal ~ I’ve followed your blog and have learned so much. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I was in Indy this weekend as well as I am every year around this time for a conference. I sure would have loved the opportunity to meet you. Just wanted to express my gratitude for your uplifting videos and posts about managing the grocery budget and all those priceless tips I’ve learned and applied. Thanks a million and here’s to hoping that some day I will get to meet you in person since I feel like I know so much about you through your beautiful blog!

QuatroMama August 22, 2011 at 10:02 am

<3 this…just sorry I somehow missed it! Move to Indiana – we'll take you!

Beth August 22, 2011 at 11:44 am

I was at Women of Faith this weekend. I was able to go free through booksneeze in return for some blogs and reviews. It was my first time there. I looked for you but didn’t see you (there were 7,000 women there). I heard them announce your twitterfeed during the Friday session. Glad you enjoyed your time.

Crystal August 22, 2011 at 12:10 pm

I wish I could have met you!
