I need this today. Thank you.
Wow. I am 28 years old and just went for the first time to take a driving road test for my license the other day because I have been too afraid to drive for 12 years now. I didn’t pass the test (parallel parking issue). I was really angry and upset and have been pretty depressed over it for three days now. I went back to the DMV today (for something unrelated) and as I was standing at the counter taking care of what I was there to do, I saw a younger girl come in and her father came over to hug her and it was pretty clear that she had just passed her road test and they were both very happy and excited. Well, that made me start crying (yes, right there, I know) because it made me feel those emotions of disappointment in myself all over again. When I saw this quote posted it hit me that I was doing just that: comparing myself to others. After 12 years and so much fear that I had faced and let go of to learn how to drive, I WENT and I TOOK THE TEST and ya know what? So what if I failed…well, I would have loved to get my license but the great thing is that I did it…I faced my fears. I have no need to compare myself to anyone else and what they may have accomplished. I can find joy in the fact that I have victory over my fears and that’s a great thing.
I have a 20 year older daughter who is afraid to drive .I am sure you two can relate.I was 21 when I got my license.Sorry you didn’t pass the parallel parking.I was lucky the first time I got my license I didn’t have to do that in Virginia. But a few years later when I lived in Florida I had to retake a written test which I flunked the first time and parallel park.Thankfully I had a small car which helped.
Try again and let us know how you did.

I wrote a note on Facebook today in my “Notes” section titled,
“Compared to WHO?” The link is above…don’t know if you can get to it or not through my filters…but feel free to try.
I wrote my note after I saw this quote from a favorite of mine on Facebook, “True Woman Movement” a group associated with Revive Our Hearts radio program with Nancy Leigh DeMoss.
The quote…
“Truth from today’s blog: “Many women are living in silent defeat, comparing themselves to other women who are living in secret defeat.”
Now yours…I guess HE was speaking to more than just me today.
Love this one! Perfect for all moms!
I just wanted to let you know that I just love these little notes in a pretty picture that you do…it’s such a nice “stop and think” moment when I’m reading through blogs in Google Reader. And, like others have said above, it speaks to me where I needed to be spoken to at this very moment. Thank you.
Wow! I think I need this tattooed to the back of my hand so I can see this everyday. I am constantly comparing myself and my situation to others and it really brings me down. I do it alot with my brother and his family because our situations are similar, but then I have to remind myself of the differences and the choices we’ve made for our families. Thank you for this. I really need to work on it.
This one was good to have today because you ended your series on making money from blogging.I hope many don’t compare themselves to you because you have already been through the trenches.Every little bit of money made is a little more then not trying at all.
Look forward to reading your new book BTW.
i love that you post these cute and inspiring little quotes! thanks so much…and I love your site too!
