The following post is part of a two-part series sponsored by Yahoo! Every time someone clicks here to make Yahoo! their homepage, they’re showing their support for my charity.
Last week, I told you about a special opportunity I’d been given: Yahoo! was offering to give $10,000 to the charity of my choice in exchange for me asking you to change your homepage to Yahoo! for two days.
I shared with you about the charity I’d chosen — Compassion International — and hundreds of you changed your homepage and shared about this opportunity on Twitter, Facebook, and your own blogs. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for helping these children and families in dire need.
Compassion International was blown away by you all. Your comments, your support and your excitement about this campaign touched them just as deeply as it touched me.
My husband and I had wanted to do something personally to encourage you all to participate in this campaign, but we had to get legal clearance from some of the folks at my advertising agency before we could — and that permission didn’t come until after last week’s post went up. So we’re so excited to tell you, that in addition to the $10,000 donation from Yahoo!, we will also personally be donating $1 to Compassion International’s Child Survival Program for every person who changes their homepage to Yahoo! for two days.

The Child Survival Program is one of our favorite programs from Compassion. It offers life-saving health and medical care for expectant mothers and children up to age three.
This program helps provide healthy deliveries in hospitals or clinics, immunizations, growth monitoring and development for the babies, and education for mothers on how to care for and feed their children. In addition, one of the facets of the program is equipping mothers with income-generating skills so they can provide for their babies and young children.
I know many of you are struggling a great deal financially and there’s no way you could afford to spend $38 each month to support a child through Compassion International. This is an opportunity for you to make a difference in the lives of needy mothers and children around the globe, even if you don’t have an extra penny to spare.
Here’s what you need to do:
::Take five seconds to change your homepage to Yahoo! for two days. (If you already have Yahoo! as your homepage, just comment and let me know that. Or, if you changed it last week for two days and already changed it back to your usual homepage, just comment and let me know that, as well.)
::Come back and leave a comment on this post in the next 48 hours letting me know you’ve changed your homepage to Yahoo.
::On July 8, 2011, I’ll turn off comments on this post, tally up how many comments there are and we’ll donate $1 per comment to Compassion International’s Child Survival Program.
Will you help me help those in impoverished countries? I’d love to have you consider sponsoring a child through Compassion. However, if that’s very much outside your budget, will you change your homepage to Yahoo! for today and tomorrow? Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping these children and families in desperate need.
And as I mentioned last week, I usually don’t ask for this, but if you would be willing to share this post on Twitter, Facebook and/or your blog, I’d be humbly grateful. Thank you so much!
