Sorry, but this tie looks like a potential choking hazard to me. Not a good idea.
I completely understand your concerns! I would not recommend putting this on a child and letting them play especially unsupervised. My son wore his little tie to a wedding and was held the entire time so there was no concern on my part about choking.
This would make me really nervous about the choking hazard too. It should be easy to modify though – add a velcro overlap closure at the back, that way it would be easy on and off.
Yes, this would be an easy & safe modification! Since he was not mobile at the time, only wore it for 2 hours and was held the entire time I didn’t factor in choking. Now that he’s 14 months old, completely different story, I would definitely do a velcro closure!!
Cute. Last fall I was looking for a tutorial to make kids ties and found a great one. I was able to use it to make my son a tie to match the wedding party he was in.
He was three at the time.
How on earth could you get that whole tie in your mouth and choke on it?? Socks are a choking hazard too, by this measure
My concern was that it get caught in something and could tighten around the childs neck…not being swallowed.
Oh, so a strangulation hazard? Yes, that makes sense. I would prefer a clip-on if my baby needed a tie. Then again, we like to dress our babies like, well, babies and babies don’t wear ties
Yeah, I think a lot of ties for babies come in clip-ons.
Thanks for sharing this. Super cute, easy & cheap to make, and great instructions with photos! A perfect tutorial!
I’m glad you like it!! And, like other readers commented regarding the choking hazard, you may want to alter with a velcro closure! Now that my son is mobile, I’d definitely modify in that way!
This is an obvious strangulation hazard.
Tie the tie, then cut the neck loop. Sew some velcro on the neck loop and fasten that way.
Thats a good idea!
Yes! Great suggestion!!
