My mom always used to make this for us in the summer! So glad to have the recipe to make for my little one! =)

Promised to make my kids the edible chocolate playdoh this summer. Google it, the recipe is online somewhere. Yum! I may have to play with it too.

Our kids love play dough! This is a great summer craft for the girls! Thanks for sharing!

Just made it and was soooo easy! Kids were playing with it in less than 5 minutes from the time I started making it! Thank you! I used gel food coloring because that is all I had and it worked out fine.

When I taught kindergarten, we did a unit on The Gingerbread Man story and all the variations. I made Gingerbread playdough for the kids to play with and they loved it! All you have to do is add gingerbread spices (cinnamon, allspice, ginger, nutmeg, etc.) to the playdough mix and it comes out smelling delicious! It was a fun way to “reinvent” playdough, but I did have to warn the kids not to eat it!

We do this too, except we use Kool-Aid for flavor instead of extracts. Much cheaper :)

Yeah! I have a Kool-Aid playdoh recipe too. I used to work with kids and had fun making it with them. Also a great gift or take away for a party.

      It also smells great!

I meant smell, not flavor :)

What if you don’t use the cream of tartar? I have everything but that.

    • Amanda May 31, 2011 at 09:41 pm

According to the blog, you do need the Cream of Tartar, or it doesn’t come out right.

You could try white wine vinegar or lemon juice in 3 times the ratio to the cream of tartar requirement. I’ve never tried it, but my daughter’s preschool teacher made some with lemon juice and the kids love it. She made it about a month ago and they still play with it every day.

I use the same recipe and my son loves it!
I make several colors and also leave some plain. We use the colors when we are in the kitchen and the plain when he is using it in his play area, which has berber carpet. The plain washes right out of materials and there is no chance of the colors staining.
Since he is only 2, I leave out the scents/flavors to discourage eating.

Does it smell like most homemade doughs? I don’t allow store bought in my house because of the smell, and home-made’s always smell like raw dough to me and being pregnant it is not very good!! Do the scents help with the smell??
I will have to try this, I have everything but the cream of tartar which I need anyway. Thanks for the suggestion.
