Coastal Contacts is giving away 10,000 free pairs of glasses today (May 11, 2011) at 12 p.m. EST. To get the free code, you just have to click on the “Like” button on their Facebook Page and then click on the “Free Glasses” tab on the sidebar.
I recommend picking out your frames ahead of time and having your order all ready to go so that you don’t miss out before the 10,000 free pairs are gone. Shipping starts at $10 and not all frames are eligible for this promotion.
I’ve never ordered from Coastal Contacts before, but I’ve ordered glasses online from Zenni Optical for less than $20 shipped and been very pleased with them. I will definitely never pay big bucks for a pair of prescription glasses again when I can get them online for $15 or less!

I use coastal contacts for my contact orders – love them. Their prices ALWAYS beat out even Walmart and 1800Contacts. Even my optomotrist was surprised. That said, they are well trusted by me and this is a GREAT deal. Heading there right now!
Thanks! I’m excited to check this out and save money on my contacts!
To pick out beforehand, how do you know which frames will be included to be able to pick out now? – Thanks
From what I understand, most are included, so I’d just pick out one or two you like and — hopefully! — they will be included.
I checked on these and I buy my contacts online, and always get my glasses from Zenni optical (online). You can get some great frames free, unfortunately for me, I need high index lenses – unless I want to look like I am wearing 4 in thick glasses, ha! – and just the lenses were going to be $120, that’s without any additional coatings, etc. If you like having a higher end frame, this may still be a good deal for you. If you are like me and really wear your contacts and only wear glasses occasionally or at night and need a higher end lens these might not be such a good deal. Didn’t want anyone to be surprised or spend a lot of time selecting a free frame to find out it is going to be more than they thought. As of now, mines are still much, much cheaper through Zenni.
I found the same thing, I am a -6.50 in one eye and -4.75 in the other so need the thinner/high index lenses. I browsed through Coastalcontacts and Zenni and picked out frames I liked, entered in my info, chose the high index (1.61) and even with the “free” code for the frames, my zenni order was $5 cheaper. Now, I’ve ordered 2 pair from Zenni before and have had no issues but they were/are probably not brand name glasses like the frame I picked out at Coastal. Just be careful and do the math ahead of time if you have a high – or + on your Rx.
My husband, mom, sister and I all did this deal last time and got our free glasses. We LOVE them! I’ve had so many compliments on my glasses and my husband actually likes his better than his regular pair (we ordered glasses as spares). Great customer service and fast shipping!!
I’ve not orderd from Zenni, but I think I am going to this next time. Is it as easy as it seems?
It really is easy – pick the frames, enter your RX info. They are great for me because I only wear glasses when I absolutely have to – I wear them at night before bed and that is really about it. So I don’t really care how the frames look. If you are super particular about your frames or if you wear them all the time and want a certain look, it might be tough for you to order online, but if not, then it is a great deal. I have a very high prescription – and even with my high index lenses and the a/r coating I don’t think I have ever paid more than about $58 for my complete glasses, but I also get the cheapest frames. I love it and it is really great for kids who tend to break/lose their glasses a lot!
As an example, my glasses configured with 1.67 High Index Single Vision (34.95 for the HI lens) and A/R coating are $46.85 with one of their 6.95 frames. Zenni now also offers 1.74 High Index Lens and it is $79 for those lenses. So my configured glasses would be $90.90 instead with that lens. If you have a pretty low RX, you would be able to go with the standard lenses and would only pay for the frames – again not name brand frames, but it depends how important that part is for you!
If the frames have “coupons not offered” or something like that under the picture, then they aren’t included. Also, if you have ordered from them in the past you can “jump the line” and get a code emailed to you now and order immediately. Also, there is a handling fee. So after shipping and handling they are actually $17. Still a good deal, but not exactly what I would call free.
Thanks so much for the further details on this!
Thank you as well – ya, I saw that ‘coupons not offered’ after searching around the site. Would this be 11 am central time zone?
I did this and they came out great, make sure you know your PD (pupilary distance) which can be measured yourself if you don’t have a prescription. It’s measured in mm
I got a “free” pair a few months back from them and was pleasantly surprised at the quality. So then my hubby got himself a “free” pair and he was very happy as well.
I say “free” cause shipping and handling add up, but WAY better than the close to $200 the stores want to charge.
I did this last time they offered the free glasses and love my glasses, I like them better then the old pair that I paid $$$ for at an optical shop. Shipping was $15 and they came insured FedEx in about 10 days. I don’t have a complicated or high prescription so I was able to get the plain freebie lenses.
I think the easiest way to search their website is to put in your glasses dimensions (the numbers on the inside of the frame for length and whatever, the website guides you to these numbers) and then look at the ones that fit you. I have a very round face so I had about 8 to pick from and all of them were included in the deal. I’m guessing the “not included” frames are the more expensive designers.
Yes, 11am central time. But last time they didn’t sell out right away. I ordered mine probably 3pm without an issue.
Just went to eye doctor last week and this is my first time at glasses, so all this is so very new to me. I don’t know how to measure all the length etc…. , I did measure the PD and that was about all the video showed how to do. I chose small frame because I have a smaller face and I’m assuming that is what I do
). But I’m so thrilled to get some inexpensive ones and save. Its funny, because the ones I really like are only $38 to begin with, LOL. I do have a backup just in case I can’t get those and the backup are priced at $78 I think. Either way, save and save on gas to town over 45 minutes away – its a win win!!!
I’m having a problem with the optometrist’s office not releasing my
pupillary distance in order to get glasses online. Any advice here? I just paid $99 for glasses at Sears Optical, but I’d like to have another pair.
They should give it to you with no problem – however, you can follow the directions on the website to measure yourself. I had my husband help me and ordered glasses and they were fine, the following year I got it from my optometrist and my husband was only 1 mm off – it didn’t make any difference for me!
YEAH! I just got mine!! retailed at $300, on their site for $98 and i paid $16.95 for shipping and taxes!! Not that bad!!! wonderful deal in my book! i normally order from zennioptical and love them but i will definitely be purchasing between these two now!!
for Anne: As I understand it, the prescription that you paid for is YOURS – they must provide it to you (including the PD) – those privacy laws, etc. allow you to have it – insist on it! Good luck
Just wanted to let you all know that I’ve been ordering my contacts from this company for years, and they are a reputable site. My contacts are so much cheaper from them than anywhere else that it made me a little suspicious of their legitimacy, but I have been very pleased with their customer service and quality of shipment (and no, I don’t work for them, lol).
Does anyone have any suggestions on the least expensive place to get an exam? The cheapest I have found so far is $60 at Walmart and Sam’s Club. Is there somewhere where you can get just the exam for less? I would then order glasses online.
Do you happen to have optometry schools in your area? If so, you can usually get exams there very inexpensively — or even for free.
I just did an internet search, and there are none that I can find.
We have lots of casinos and a renowned cooking school
I have ordered from there and had no problems.
I splurged and used this free frames offer from Coastal Contacts before and paid about $40 for UV coating, and a tint to make myself my first pair of prescription sunglasses – I was TOTALLY IMPRESSED. It took a while for the order to be processes and shipped, but when it arrived I was very happy. Even more happy that the $40 was from my paypal account of money from doing surveys. $0 out of pocket!
I just placed my order, but had to call the toll free number because the website was down. The wait was less than 5 minutes and the CSR was a gem. I got my husband a pair of $330.00 glasses for $16.95 (shipping). I am beyond thrilled. I can’t wait until they get here. He is a contact lense wearer, but he needed a pair of “back-up” glasses, and this was a win-win. I will probably start ordering his contacts through this company also. !Thanks for the post!
Thanks so much for sharing this offer with me! My glasses broke the night before this offered was posted. I normally wear contacts but I wear glasses in the evenings and on weekends to give my eyes a break. I thought this was going to be a joke but wow, it was so easy to place the order and I love my glasses, lots to choose from! Thanks money saving mom and Coastal contacts!
