Holy Cow!! I’m in total agreement… this is genius. I actually have some new blinds still in the box that never got hung up too.

And you can use the discarded slats as plant markers if you are a gardener.

Brilliant indeed!I have 3 mini blinds in my dining room that I’ve been wanting to trade out for something prettier. I’ll have to try this. Thanks for the wide range of money saving techniques you feature on your blog-I love it all!

Wow! This is perfect. You can use whatever fabric you want. Great idea.

Wow, what a great idea! Wondering how the fabric glue holds up when opening and closing the blinds every day?

Rachel April 5, 2011 at 5:55 pm

Kristen,
It has been a few weeks and the fabric glue has held up just fine. I open and close the shades every day. You need to be pretty liberal with the glue when attaching the fabric to the top and bottom plastic pieces. Hope this helps.

awesome!!! I can’t wait to try it!

Perfect timing!!! I just discovered that Ds has torn the two mini blinds in his room up and will need replacing when we move. Plus the big one in the living room and I think the 2 in our room.
Roman blind making party at our new house!!!

This is too cool!

Very interesting…I see a summer project here! I have many ugly miniblinds in my house that could use a make over.

As a warning to parents of small children, please be aware that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission actually recalled all Roman shades back in 2009 for repair because they pose a strangulation risk. I think the risk is greater than with miniblinds, although I’m not 100 percent sure of that. I remember seeing something on the news awhile back about the dangers of Roman shades and thought I’d post a warning just as an FYI. It’s at least worth researching before using them in your home. I found the following link by doing a quick Google search: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml10/10073.html

Oh drat! I gave my old mini-blinds to my cousin to use for plant markers in her garden! (She cuts the slats in half, cuts a point one end and then writes on them with a Sharpie.) I might just have to see what I can find at garage sales now….my kids need a new set of curtains/window coverings in their room and this would be perfect! What an awesome idea!

Thank you for sharing.
