They spell “colour” like that because that’s the Canadian way to spell it!! For us Canucks, it drives us batty to see it spelt “color” … lol!

Crystal March 23, 2011 at 7:00 am

;)

Billie March 23, 2011 at 4:49 pm

Aa a fellow Canadian – Michelle I agree completely. Plus I’m happy they are sending me coupon for free hair colour. ;-)

Gina March 23, 2011 at 6:39 am

It is the proper way to spell the word in British English.

Mary S. March 23, 2011 at 6:49 am

And John Frieda is British so it would make sense that his company spells it that way. (Though I do think he has sold the company and I don’t know if it is still based in the UK).

I always thought words looked fancier with the added “u” when I was younger so I tried to spell everything the British way. I grew out of it but I still think it looks nicer.

Crystal March 23, 2011 at 6:59 am

Right, but I prefer the American spelling and it feels like I’m making a typo to spell it like that! :)

Tami March 23, 2011 at 2:51 pm

I’m with you on this one Gina :) The language is called English after all. Not American ;)

Ania March 23, 2011 at 6:47 am

I got a $1.50 off any hair care product after the survey.

Gina March 23, 2011 at 6:48 am

Jenny Maistros March 23, 2011 at 6:50 am

Leanne March 23, 2011 at 6:52 am

Got a free one! Thanks!

Jenny Maistros March 23, 2011 at 7:01 am

Yes, Crysal, it drives me nuts too. When I am reading it, I feel like I have to pronounce it as goofy as it looks!

Crystal March 23, 2011 at 7:13 am

Glad to know I’m not alone! :)

Michelle March 23, 2011 at 7:16 am

We don’t pronounce it any differently …. :)

anonymous March 23, 2011 at 11:13 am

I wouldn’t say it looks goofy. Many words are spelt differently in British English than they are in American English. Both ways are proper.

Jenny Maistros March 23, 2011 at 11:31 am

I am sure to people that are used to it, it does not look goofy, but I am not, so it looks goofy to me :) No offense to anyone who spells it that way.

DeAnna March 23, 2011 at 7:09 am

Sweet! I got a free bottle. I also got a freebie from the Loreal foam you posted before, so I’ll be able to dye my hair twice now for free :) That’s awesome! There are people out there who think I am a natural redhead (instead of blonde) because of these great deals :)

amanda March 23, 2011 at 7:18 am

GOT ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gail March 23, 2011 at 8:08 am

Emily March 23, 2011 at 8:32 am

Got one! I guess I’m not buying hair color at the Dollar Tree this month! Huzzah!

Laura March 23, 2011 at 8:33 am

As a Canadian living in the States, with three American daughters, I’m on the fence about this one. Gotta admit, though, I may be becoming more ‘American’ than I realize, because I can take it both ways!

Kate March 23, 2011 at 9:08 am

Haha, I didn’t even notice the spelling—does that mean I’ve lived in the UK as a US military spouse for too long? ;)

Melissa March 23, 2011 at 9:27 am

did they take it down? i scrolled down to december’s posts and didn’t see that survey link
thanks

Lilianne March 23, 2011 at 10:56 am

Lilianne March 23, 2011 at 11:06 am

Yay I got a free box!! And just in time to dye my hair after our baby is born in May! I haven’t dyed it since September and the gray is definitely showing through!

Koree March 23, 2011 at 11:02 am

Oh 1.50 off combined with the recent coupons from the Sunday paper should be some cheap product!! Couponing is such a rush! (I’m a dork : ) )

alicia March 23, 2011 at 11:37 am

Awesome….. got a free coupon.. Why though is it 8-10 weeks for deivery? Just print a label with my name and adress and stick a stamp on it.

Amy March 23, 2011 at 11:52 am

I got a free box! Yay!

Alex March 23, 2011 at 12:12 pm

Thank you so much for this post! I qualified for a free box. I actually get my hair done at the salon, but my fiancee is a horse trainer and we dye one of our horse’s tail black (it’s usually white)…it takes almost three boxes of dye each time! This is really helpful.

chetu March 23, 2011 at 12:56 pm

i got one for free

Jessica March 23, 2011 at 2:41 pm

Free box coming in 6-10 weeks. Thanks!

Dominique March 23, 2011 at 9:10 pm

Coupon for my free box of hair colour is in the mail, too.

As a Canadian, I have to say that the american way of spelling things always makes me feel like I’m looking at a typo. Then again, I think it sounds goofy to hear the last letter of the alphabet pronounced as “zee”, too, since us Canadians pronounce it “zed”. To me, coming from a country with two official languages – both English and French – “zee” sounds like someone trying to fake a bad French accent! LOL
My American husband teases me about my “extra U” in spelling, and about using “zed’, and always notices when I say “eh” … which apparently is far most often than I realize! ;-)

Stephanie March 24, 2011 at 12:48 pm

My friend’s (Australian) preschooler came home from her first day at preschool after they moved to the States seriously peeved because her American teacher not only talked funny but clearly didn’t know the alphabet because she kept saying zee instead of zed.

Louise March 25, 2011 at 8:06 am

I Love it , it reminds me of home and now I’ll have a fancy new hair colour to show off when i go to England for my sisters wedding, Yay !!
