Amazon currently has dozens of G.A. Henty historical novels available for free download.

Please note that the price of these ebooks is currently $0.00, but that could change at any time. Be sure to check the price before checking out to verify that these are still free.

These ebooks are specifically for Kindles, but you can go here to download a free application which enables you to read Kindle ebooks on your PC.

Wow!!! You just made my 14 year old son’s day. He’s been saving to buy a particular Henty, and thanks to you he just got it for FREE! He’s thrilled. The Kindle app was super easy to load onto our PC, and came with my favorite Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice.

Thanks! It looks like many of these are free on the Nook as well, so don’t feel left out if you have a Nook instead, like me. I wouldn’t have thought to look for them if I hadn’t seen this post, though. I haven’t tried Henty books yet, now I can!

I was just coming to say this. Also – if you have any eBook reader other than the Kindle – you can download many of these from your local library.

Well, if your library offers e-downloads. Many don’t, yet. Mine doesn’t, and I sure wish they did! Where I live would be a great place – university town, lots of high-tech students on hand.

Melanie, talk to your local library if you haven’t already. Some have programs that no one knows about where you can access another libraries system and many are open to partnering with Overdrive (one of the main “assistants” of library eBooks) if they are aware of the desire. That’s how we got it here (in Ohio).

In searching on Amazon, I noticed that they also have many free Horatio Alger books for Kindles. While Alger doesn’t write historical fiction, we have enjoyed the few books by him that we have read. They are good, clean stories which boys enjoy. http://www.amazon.com/s/qid=1300814034/ref=sr_pg_2?ie=UTF8&sort=price&keywords=horatio%20alger&rh=n%3A133140011%2Cn%3A!133141011%2Ck%3Ahoratio%20alger&page=2
