Groupon is looking to hire more freelance writers for their daily deal postings. Here are a few details on the job:

Writers who are vetted into our freelancing pool have a steady stream of work and can brandish their quills from anywhere. Freelancers can do no less than 10 and no more than 20 write-ups per week, compensated at $22 per write-up (so potential comp is up to $440 per week). Within that range, they can choose the workload that fits their schedule. Expect to devote at least one hour to each write-up.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a knack for our voice in his or her sample, and will also be able to point to hard evidence of the ability to self-direct and work under deadline.

Click here to apply for this position.

By the way, I’m always on the lookout for work-at-home job opportunities to post here. If you ever come across one or know of any, please email me so I can look into it and consider posting it.

Thanks, STL Mommy!

I am going to discuss this possible opportunity with my husband tonight (I love to write!). Thank you so much for sharing.

I applied, but I know I’m not good enough. It was a great exercise though. I feel better about myself just for going through the process and pursuing it. Thanks for sharing this.

I have an English degree and razor wit. Those are the only two qualifications, right? I applied, so I guess we’ll see!

I hope so. That’s all I got going for me.

about.com frequently needs contributors. Like with Groupon, they are very selective and usually require a writing sample and for the writer to have some sort of expertise in the area.

The first time I read a Groupon offer I was intrigued by the writing — such hilarious sarcasam! In this day and age of dry attempts to connect with customers it’s refreshing to see a personal side to advertising.

My first thought after reading the application specs was “oh my gosh, I LOVE this — this type of humor is ME –I talk like this all the time but I could NEVER do it and get paid for it”.

Why do we do this to ourselves? Why do we think we can’t do something, or even try? If our best friend or sister thought they couldn’t do something wouldn’t we be breaking our leg to be the first in line to encourage them? Yet we seldom tell ourselves the same thing.

In the interst of taking the advice I would give to my sister, I’m going to apply and just be myself and then not fret over who at the big Groupon headquarters might not like my application, or writting sample and wonder why on earth I bothered to apply. It will be a great opportunity to stretch outside my comfort zone.

I encourage every one of you that might be thinking you are not good enough, qualified enough or whatever you like to call it to do the same thing!

I would absolutely LOVE to get paid to write. I can’t think of much I’d rather do, and yet I haven’t ever heard or been a part of groupon so I have no clue what the style is or if it is something I could copy on a regular basis.

I’d love to give it a shot, but where could I go and read old ads to get a feel for the style required? Anyone know?

Just go to Groupon and just start reading the write-ups on their daily deals. It’s a hoot and it will give you a feel for the writing style they are looking for. :)

I so agree. Stop saying “I can’t” and start jumping in and trying!

I sooooo want this job! Crystal, you and a few other women online are definitely inspiring me to try to earn WHILE being a stay-at-home mom. Yes, this is a somewhat new concept to me. Thanks!
