Looks like a GREAT alternative for those of us that won’t buy poptarts!
Thanks!

Did this over the weekend for my kiddos. They were fabulous fresh out of the oven! Plus, as she mentions on the site, the dough is very versatile. It can even be used for pizza pockets for the freezer. That’s my project later this week!

Those look so good! My kids have never had poptarts but this looks like a really good alternative. This will be perfect to make this summer when I start making more strawberry jam.

Thanks for posting this! My son has been asking for pop-tarts for weeks. They weren’t something I ever purchased on a regular basis, but now that I’m slowly cutting processed stuff out, they never make it into my cart. We’ll definitely give this a try!

Wow, thsoe look so good and I’ve followed Laura’s blog for awhile now. I know she takes great effort into making healthy options so I can’t wait to try them either.

Oooh, oooh, oooh! I LOVE this idea!! Thanks for sharing. Gonna have to try this one, definitely :)

We made these last week, and they were soooooo good!

I am trying to watch my sugar intake. I am boarder line diabetic, according to my Dr., and need to watch my carbs. Can you tell me if these have low carbs? They look really good and would like to try them.

Oh my gosh, these look so good! My husband used to eat pop-tarts all the time, because it was a quick and cheap eat-on-the-road breakfast item. I stopped buying them a while ago and I’ve been having a hard time finding other things to feed him. He’ll love these!

Me too!!! I have just been drooling since I saw the recipe last week!

Crystal, thanks so much for linking to my poptarts…Hope your family enjoys them!

That’s funny you would post these today, because I was looking at her website this weekend and had planned to make them today too!

Made these yesterday and they are sooo yummy! They freeze well too! I warmed one up for breakfast this morning. 30 sec. in the microwave = perfect! My only complaint was that I didn’t get enough jelly in them. Next time, more jelly! YUMMY!

These sound really great, but I have a family with food allergies. My son can’t have dairy or soy. I’ve been trying to think of a substitute for the yogurt, but can’t. If anyone has any thoughts, I’d love to hear them. Thanks!

Crystal January 18, 2011 at 12:04 pm

I’d just suggest using a regular pie crust dough and that should likely work as a substitute.

Suzanne January 18, 2011 at 12:24 pm

I bet you’re right. Now if I can only justify giving the kiddos a meal of pie crust and jelly for breakfast—maybe a morning snack :)

Sonja January 18, 2011 at 12:41 pm

can he have coconut yogurt? that’s what my sil uses for my nephew

Charity January 18, 2011 at 12:03 pm

Love this! Can’t wait to try! If they turn out well then I will be freezing lots for breakfasts after blessing #4 arrives. :)

I just tried making these and I FAILED miserably! I know it is “baker error”–I just wish I knew what I did wrong. They tasted like bland squares of compressed wheat flour–I would love some tips if anybody has any! Thankfully, my daughter loved them anyway :)

Hooray for children that will eat almost anything lol. One of my sons is the same way. I call him my human garbage disposal. Anything that comes out not so hot and nobody else wants it, he’ll eat it (as long as it doesn’t have veggies :/ ).

Anne January 18, 2011 at 4:49 pm

I’ve been trying to find a replacement for the pop tarts my one daughter loves. (I remember how I used to love them on the rare occasion my mom bought them-now I say YUCK!!!) THANK YOU! I can’t wait to try these!! Do you know if there is a way to make some frosting that would mimic the kind you buy in the store?

Joy Shepard January 18, 2011 at 7:04 pm

Hi anne. I would think that you could frost them like gingerbread cookies. Use a little (I mean little) bit of vanilla extract or any flavor that you want that will go with the jelly/jam you are using. I think these are GREAT!!! I tried them today, and although it was slow going the first time and KNOW I will get the process down to like 15 min!!

rachaelp January 18, 2011 at 5:12 pm

Yum! Can’t wait to try them. We never eat pop tarts around here but the homemade ones just sound so delicious!

meagan January 18, 2011 at 5:38 pm

I’m definitely putting these on next weeks menu, for my daycare kiddos. They look good, and I am happy to find an alternative to poptarts(which I don’t like much anyway). Hope the kids like them!

Valerie January 18, 2011 at 6:45 pm

I sent my husband this post and he said ‘YUM!’, so I had to make them for him. I’m not the best baker/cook, but they came out pretty well- some with raspberry jam filling and some with pumpkin. :)

Joy Shepard January 18, 2011 at 7:05 pm

I went with wild cherry jam I made this summer. YUM!! I will be trying blackberry or strawberry/fig next. sooooo good.

Joy Shepard January 18, 2011 at 7:07 pm

Oh, I almost forgot, I made the sausage pancake muffins too since my husband LOVES McDonald’s pancake sausage sandwich (whatever it is called), but because we don’t eat much processed food it doesn’t go over well (no more info on this (:). Anyway, I hope he likes them!!

Thanks so much for sharing! Made these tonight for dessert… they were a huge hit. Seeing them on here this afternoon made me want to try them ASAP. Everyone gobbled them up with strawberry, grape and apricot options. Mmmm!
