I love this idea…I have several friends who collect codes from my coke rewards to give to me. My kids shoes for Christmas are coming from this! I think this is a great idea to sat Thanks to them!
I have done this before and even attached a package of microwave popcorn with a card saying something like “hope your holidays are popping with good times”.
LOVE this! So cute and fun! And cheap!!!
I saw this on a website last year and used it for several gag gifts for men.
Give them a bottle of root bear and a can of beans. On a tag put
Have a Rootin-Tootin Merry Christmas!
For a female friend, I gave her a candle and put on a tag
May your Christmas be Merry and Bright!
I love that the things you are linking are TRULY frugal gifts and ideas. I keep seeing things tht say “affordable”, “inexpensive”, or “frugal” gift ideas for “only” $10 or $20! That’s a present or 2 or even 3 at my house!
@The Prudent Homemaker, Yes! Exactly! I am right with you on this one! I keep reading and hearing comments of “Christmas comes on the same day every year. You have all year to plan and save.” But for some families, no matter how much you have planned and saved, you can’t spend $10-$20 on everyone! “Only” $10 bucks goes a long way in our family! Each Christmas has been very tight for us financially, but it keeps our focus on what we believe Christmas is *truly* about…thank God for that!
@Charity, Our Christmases are always tight, too. The “planning” we were able to do included a few shirts and a pair of pants for my oldest son from garage sales this summer. One daughter is getting a beautiful red wool coat from a garage sale that cost only $5, and I made her a warm hat to match and a doll coat to match with scraps of fabric that I already had.
I am making a coat for our baby and lining it with a 100% wool sweater that I picked up from the thrift store for $3. There was enough to make her tiny hands a pair of mittens, too.
My boys are getting pajamas made from some plaid flannel sheets that were given to me.
$10 would be a lot to spend on one person!
@The Prudent Homemaker, Your comment made me smile! It was very encouraging to me! We have three littles and I am 6months pregnant with our next little blessing. I am making their gifts as I do each year and I really enjoy using what I have on hand. I am making my girls (4 1/2yrs and 3yrs) matching housecoats from some cute flannel I bought at a yard sale this past summer. I am making my little boy (1 1/2yrs) felt play food and I am also making them all “new” crayons from their broken crayons (by putting broken pieces of crayons in cookie cutters and melting them in the oven on low) and printing off some coloring sheets for them from free sites online. I saved my swagbucks and am ordering them a new book for me to read aloud to them and a Melissa and Doug toy we have been hoping for for a while.
Probably too simple in some folks opinion, but we have no cash to spend this year and I am glad that the Lord has provided a way for us to be able to give them each a gift, and a few to share
I’m not sure we would do anything any differently even if we had $500 to spend on each child. We have all we need! We are so blessed!
@Charity, I undersand not having any money for Christmas. We have 6 small children; my oldest is 8. I’ve been doing a lot of sewing the last 4 Christmases.
If you need some more coloring pages or paper dolls, I have lots of links to free paper dolls, coloring pages, toys etc. . I usually stick those in stockings.
Also, if you have more fabric and want to make something else, or even if you want to use clothing to remake some things, I have links to free tutorials and patterns, including felt food, barrettes, skirts, doll clothes, finger puppets, and more.
Your Christmas plans sound wonderful!
@The Prudent Homemaker, Thank you so much!! I wish I could just give you a big hug…you have encouraged me so much today!
I checked out your site while my wee ones were down for a nap this afternoon and I will definitely be returning to learn my way around. My oldest daughter is just getting into paper dolls, so I will be checking those out too. Again, thank you SO much!
I love this! My husband is picking up 4 sprites and paper when he gets off work in the morning! thanks for the idea
Anyone have more ideas for food items? I would love some more ideas for different things. Thanks.
@Hayley, What about giving a loaf of Rosemary Olive Oil bread, or a loaf of French Bread or other homemade bread with some homemade jam or jelly? Even just the bread is fine, and you’ll have only spent about .25 a loaf if you get your flour in bulk (Sam’s Club has 25 pounds of flour for under $7 right now).
People also love it when I give them some fudge; I’ve had requests for that in subsequent years!
I am giving a jam sampler to a couple of people this year, including my mom, consisting of apple butter, apricot jam, lavender jelly, and pomegrante jelly. My mom always gives me the jars back when she’s used the jelly, so it really doesn’t cost me much!
I made peppermint bark last year. Buy bars of white chocolate bark or chips (buy on sale with coupons). Then, buy bags of Starlite pepermints ($1 a bag @ Walmart). Melt white chocolate. Crush mints and add to melted white chocolate. Pour onto a rimmed baking sheet that is lightly greased. Let cool. Then break apart like peanut brittle and put into plastic cookie buckets or metal tins lined with waxed paper. I buy my containers end of season each year for $.50 or less. One baking sheet usually makes two plastic cookie buckets or tins (depending on size). Add pretty ribbon and gift tag.
Oops. That’s “peppermints”
Loving all these food ideas, keep ‘em coming!
I started to download the gift tag & Safari stopped me saying that there was an application attached & did I want to proceed (and for some reason the file is 4.9 MB!). I’ve downloaded files from 4shared before & never received this message — don’t want a virus…
Very cute idea with the Sprite! Love it! I’ll definitely be doing this!!
Someone gave me a similar gift when I was teaching and I thought it was the perfect teacher and/or low-cost thoughtful gift. The one I received was with a bottle of 7-Up and “Seven Up-Lifting” stories and poems attached with some pretty ribbon.
Great idea I am making gift baskets with the $5 cookbooks from taste of homes and whatever the theme is giving the items to go with, and this will just be a nice finishing touch, and gift tag all in one.
