Get a free drink from Starbucks on your birthday!

by Crystal on December 27, 2010

If you received a Starbucks card for Christmas, don’t forget to register it at Starbucks.com. You’ll get a free drink coupon on your birthday, plus you can also have the possibility to earn free drinks and more if you refill it and use it a lot.

Want to know our secret for maximizing the mileage of a Starbucks card and never paying for Starbucks?

::Earn a free Starbucks card through Swagbucks or ShopItToMe.

::Register the Starbucks card online in order to receive a free drink coupon for your birthday plus start earning rewards on it.

::Earn more free Starbucks cards through Swagbucks or ShopItToMe and add the balance of those cards to your registered Starbucks card (you can do this very easily in your Starbucks account online).

::Slowly, use your card and continue to replace the balance and you’ll start to earn stars on your registered card.

::Over time, you may even earn enough stars to reach Gold level (30 stars equals Gold level). Continue to add to the balance with Starbucks cards earned through Swagbucks and, for every 15 drinks purchased, you’ll get a coupon in the mail for a completely free drink.

And there you have it! Our way to enjoy the occasional Starbucks treat without spending any money out of pocket!

Just wanted to share that the free birthday drink is great – it’s ANY drink you want, any way you want it, any size you want. Totally worth registering a card for!

I must admit Starbucks is my guilty pleasure that I just will not give up. I do not drink, smoke or do any activities for just me and I rarely get my hair cut or anything like that, so I consider it my ME time and it is non-negotiable! That being said. Each week I get my “blow money” from my budget and $20 goes to my Starbucks gift card. I then use it to make every purchase. Even if I go in there and have cash, I fill the card first and then use it to make my purchase. You earn a star for each use and you get a free drink after earning 15 stars. EVERY free drink coupon you get you are able to use for ANY drink ANY size, with whatever add ons and it is free (be careful when buying multiple drinks, some stores will use it on the lowest drink, which you CAN argue because it does not say that on the coupon). I now get a simple Iced Coffe each day, but when I get those coupons I go for something special and bigger!! They also send you a lot of other offers and coupons throughout the year and then there is the free drink on your birthday. Do I sound like I work for them? :) I don’t, but I love them!

It is so nice how they let you choose ANY drink, not just a small or medium. I’m lucky that my birthday falls in the “holiday drinks” part of the year!

Thanks for telling us about this, I’ve never bought a Starbucks card, so I had no idea!

Crystal, do you think these cards are more valuable than the $5 Amazon gift cards from swagbucks? I trade all my sb’s for Amazon cards b/c I can get anything, but I like to get the most out of my bucks whichever way possible. I buy maybe one Starbucks a week with my cash so I don’t know if this would benefit me to get these cards and pay cash for items I typically get for free on Amazon.

The Amazon cards are a little better deal, but I have enough credits each month to do both, so I do the Amazon cards first, then Starbucks.

Thanks! My husband got a Starbucks gift card for Christmas, but he doesn’t drink anything they carry, so I “stole” it. I’m so excited that I can use it to get free drinks, since Starbucks is one of my few indulgences.

Here’s a great tip that an employee at my favorite Starbucks shared with me…you get one point FOR EACH TRANSACTION, regardless of the number of items in that transaction…so…purchase each item separately. By doing this you get more points per visit (provided you’re buying more than one item), which makes your free drinks add up even faster! : )

That’s what I’ve been doing since I heard this tip and it really does work. The employees don’t seem to mind, either.

Once you register your card and earn 5 stars (from purchases with the card) you are at “green level”. With 30 stars, you are at “gold level”. One of the biggest advantages I’ve found with this is that you get free select syrups and milk in your drink. So, for example, you can turn that mocha into a peppermint mocha with no added cost for the peppermint syrup. This turns a yum drink into a YUM drink. Details about which syrups and milks are complimentary–as well as other rewards–are on the website. I’m a huge Starbucks drinker but also a big fan of supporting local business, though, so I have to say to balance local with larger corporations! ;)

Can someone tell me how the free birthday drink works? DH just registered his card this afternoon, and his birthday is tomorrow. Will he get an e-mail to print, or something in the mail (so that maybe he’s too late for this b-day)? Thanks.

      @Sherri,

I believe they mail you a coupon. I haven’t had a birthday since registering the card, but I saw someone in front of me use one before. :)

I just got a $10 SB gift card from pampers gifts to grow. I think it was 1000 points but this is the 1st time I saw it in their rewards so it worth checking if it’s still there!

When I try to use the link you provided, to register the Starbucks card, I get an error message of this offer has expired. Does anyone know the current link?

You can also earn Starbucks gift cards by using the reward shopping community mypoints.com. I think it’s easier to earn the amount of points to get the Starbucks gift cards through them than it is through swagbucks. I use swagbucks for the Amazon cards and Mypoints.com for the STarbucks cards.
