The advent boxes are very cute, but to be perfectly honest, after two years of my mom putting together the whole thing for my kids, I had to ask her not to do it again. Advent turned into, “What are we going to get?” every night. Our goal with Advent is to keep the focus on Christ, not presents, and it just didn’t work. I know there are lots of options out there, but the one we have kept over the years is The Advent Book by the Stockmans. It’s beautiful and purely scripture, and if you go back to the beginning every night and lead up to the current date, kids will have most of the Christmas story memorized by Christmas. That, plus some dimmed lights and an Advent wreath have worked for us to keep the focus in the right place.
I think the advent boxes linked here are not presents for the children but just a visual reminder of something related to Advent. Just FYI! So good to hear how your family is seeking to keep the focus on Christ!
Oh, it would be a lot better that way! It’s still a bit more “stuff” than I like to deal with, but I can see the fun and simpler side of using it year after year.
Thanks for clearing that up!
We’re actually doing our advent with books and activities. Each day there’s a little pocket with the name of the craft & book on it. The crafty crow put together a list a few years back.

I LOVE the ornaments from Confressions of a Homeschooler. I don’t have kids, but I’m going to make the ornaments and put together a big basket full of the supplies needed for the different activities and give to my sisters and their families. Hot chocolate, pipe cleaners, bubble bath, light bulbs with instructions for bulb ornaments, a cake mix, a family game, gingerbread house, etc.
