Don’t these Cookie Dough Truffles look fabulous? I’m pretty much guessing anyone who likes chocolate would love to be the recipient of these… if you have the self-control not to eat the whole batch before gifting them.

My husband loves the Oreo truffles but they are just too much chocolate for me.. Thanks for posting these.. I believe I will love them
I would love to make these but I never get the chocolate that smooth…..what is the secret???
@Carin,
Hi Carin,
I made oreo truffles today. I tried the chips and they were a pain and they burned. I went to Kroger and got Krogers brand of “candy coating”. I got home and cut the huge chunks of bars into smaller pieces. Then I put a small pan on the stove and set on “warm” or your lowest temp on your stove and sprayed some no stick spray and let it melt slowly on the slowest setting. My chocolate came out great and was easy to use, and was very good!
@Carin, use a double boiler. You can easily make one if you don’t have one. Place about an inch of water in a small sauce pan, place a stainless steel bowl on top of that pan (try to make sure it is close to but doesn’t touch the water). Add the chocolate to the bowl. Never let the water boil, only simmer and stir constantly.
@Carin, use reg. choc. chips with a tbs. of Crisco shortning (or any other brand). Place choc. chips in a coffee mug and place a small bowl (something that can withstand the heat) in the pot with some water in it (make sure not too much as to boil over in chocolate!). Keep stove heat low. Stir until melted and use as needed.
Ummm… funny that you put that self-restraint bit in there because I was just thinking they’d be a cute gift for my sisters & I could finish the rest myself!
One of the secrets for getting the chocolate smooth is to make sure that all of the utensils that touch it are absolutely dry. Even a bit of moisture on your stirring spoon, for example, can make it clump. To use chocolate morsels for dipping: Microwave 1 cup semi-sweet morsels in the microwave on high for 45 seconds. Stir. Microwave again in 10 sec. intervals, stirring after each, until completely melted. To make a nice coating (for strawberries, truffles, etc.) add 1 Tablespoon vegetable shortening (Crisco) to each cup of morsels.
@Janine, Nice tips! Thanks for sharing!
My husband would go nuts over these, I’m sure!
Those look amazing!!
hahaha, these look awesome… I am going to have to give up your site… every time you post these fun things I run off and make them, or eat them… hahaha;) Thank you so much … all of your ideas have REALLY helped my gifting this year:) I love it! Thank you, thank you, thank you;)
I made these last week – they’re super easy and were a huge hit with everyone! I think raw cookie dough is better than the baked cookies! Nice to have a recipe for the dough without eggs.
I want to try these. We made Oreo Truffles last night for an Advent gathering! They are a hit and so easy-oreo’s, cream cheese, and chocolate!
@Jay, Jay, would you share your recipe for Oreo truffles? They sound devine too. Thanks, Alicia
@Alicia,
Crush a package of oreos. I use the food processor to get them to a powder. Then mix with one block of cream cheese. Roll into balls and dip in chocolate. (I freeze them for a bit before dipping to make it easier.) You can also drizzle white chocolate over them to make them look a little fancier. I made some last week and sprinkled crushed candy canes on top.
They are really good with mint oreos!!!
@LeAnne,
Or with Nutter Butters!
Dumb question here for those of you who are tried and true truffle makers- would love to make these for gifts, but do they have to stay refrigerated? Not sure how great a gift it would make if I need to box up and ship or give to someone far away. Any help?!
@Betsy Durand, I’m pretty sure these do need to stay refrigerated, so they’re probably not the best ones for shipping. Peanut butter balls might work better!
Those are really neat. Thanks for sharing – I’m going to make them.
I just made the dough for these and they are so easy! I am planning to dip them along with a bunch of other treats (pretzels, other truffles, etc). I will use my small crock pot to melt the chocolate and then dip from there. Thanks for sharing.
@The Happy Wife/Danielle,
Never thought to use a crock pot. That is a great idea!
Okay, not a good day to see this post, just having got back from my pre-natal check-up hearing that I had gained 10lbs since the last visit!!
Thanks for the recipe. I’m going to try tonight as we have a pot lunch lunch at work tomorrow and i’ve made so many christmas cookies 2 weeks ago that i don’t want to make them again till next yr..lol…
i may try an egg and dairy free version. i do make chocolate chip cookies with allergy free batter. wonder if it will work?
help….i’m a little confused: Is the ½ cup mini semisweet chocolate chips for the mix, and the 1½ lb. semisweet for the dip?
Thanks!
We made truffles for gifts this year. The Oreo ones and some Raspberry truffles as well. Our neighbors will be finding a cookie tin in their mailbox so they will stay cool that way. Our family will also each be getting a cookie tin but we will keep them out on the back steps until time for them to go home.
Kinda thankful I didn’t see this posting earlier. I am so sick of dipping things in chocolate as I have made 2 types of truffles as well as turtles in the last 2 days. But they sound so easy and good…
The mini ones would be for the dough and the 1 1/2 lbs would be for the dip. Like someone else said, I kept mine in a mini crockpot which worked well.
Thanks so much! Going to find my crockpot now ! What a great recipe and tips!!!
Now, I just have to keep myself away from them….they sound so delish
oreo truffles…they have mint oreos out right now. those would be good in a truffle. i’m going to try to mix oreo crumbs with icing instead of cream cheese and see if i can pull off a dairy-free truffle.
already have cookie dough and oreo truffles in the freezer prepping for dairy-free chocolate dipping. my kids will love these. thanks for getting my wheels spinning…when i should be wrapping.
LOL!!! Cookie dough is so yummy!!! I have always eaten it and don’t even want the cookies after they are baked! After making tons of oreo balls and crockpot candy, I hope I have time to give these a try!!!
These are on my Valentine’s day list.
should i add the crisco in the crockpot or leave it alone? Tks
@Agnes, You shouldn’t need crisco, just the chocolate should be fine. If your chocolate gets too hot and starts clumping up, a little crisco should help thin it out.
Could I just use Candy Quick? Would that give me the same end result?
I guess next time I shouldn’t second guess myself and should sumbit my ideas. You have featured a number of things that I make every year. I love the cookie dough truffles. They are yummy and so easy to make.
For anyone having trouble with melting the chocolate, what I use is a small 1 or 2 quart crockpot. Keeps the chocolate melted without scorching it.
I wrote a post about Oreo Balls that I made this week for a holiday party. They have been a tradition for three years now!

I love the idea of putting little chocolate chips on top!
Just made them last night! I used bakers squares for dipping and always melt them in the microwave, stirring after every 30 sec. It does not take long to get it all melted, even if little chunks are left after a while they will melt after stirring. Just don’t don’t microwave for too long at a time so it doens’t burn. If you take to long to coat them you might have to heat the cocolate a little bit more again.
I just finished making these and just wanted to warn that the recipe makes about a hundred million of these things. Turned out to be a big project and I actually only dipped half of them (maybe). So now I have a lot of dough left over, which I assume I can’t bake since it doesn’t have eggs. Any suggestions on the leftover dough?
