You will love this Oreo Cream Pie Recipe
Looking for a super simple recipe to take to a Christmas gathering this weekend? How about some Oreo Pie?
Cool Whip sent me a basket of ingredients and encouraged me to try a new recipe using Cool Whip. Truth be told, we prefer making our own whipped cream with real cream. But I had fun looking through Cool Whip recipes and choosing one to try. I finally decided to go with the Oreo Pie recipe, considering everyone in our family loves Oreos.
Did I mention we love Oreos? Just to prove this statement, I’ll confess that it took me three tries to actually get the pie made, because the first two packages of Oreos I bought were consumed before I could so much as attempt to make the pie! And it wasn’t just the children who were responsible for the disappearing Oreos.
Ahem.
Oreo Cream Pie Ingredients
- 1/4 cup butter (or margarine)
- 1 package Oreo cookies (at least 36 cookies)
- 1 1/2 cups cold milk
- 2 packages (4-serving size) vanilla-flavored instant pudding
- 1 8-oz. tub Cool Whip, thawed
How to make No Bake Oreo Pie
1. In a large bowl, melt the butter and set aside.
2. In a blender or food processor, crush 24 cookies.
3. Pour cookie crumbs into the bowl of melted butter, mix, and press onto the bottom and sides of a 9-inch pie plate.
4. In the same bowl, beat milk and pudding together until thick (approximately 1 to 2 minutes).
5. Carefully stir in Cool Whip topping and blend well.
6. Crush or chop 12 additional Oreos and fold them into the pudding mixture.
7. Spoon pudding mixture into crust.
8. Garnish with Oreos and refrigerate at least four hours.
Oreo Pie Recipe Variations
My husband declared this pie “delicious!” despite the lack of real whipped cream. However, his first question after telling me it was good was, “Do you think you can make it with real whipping cream?”
Yes, we’re real whipping cream “snobs” like that!
There are so many ways you can mix up this recipe to make it your own (or just use up the ingredients you already have in the house!
- Use homemade whipped cream instead of using Cool Whip
- Use a graham cracker crust, or even a different type of cookie crust instead of Oros.
- Use a different flavor of pudding.
- Add sprinkles or other garnishes
- Try freezing the pie for a frozen “ice cream” type pie!
No Bake Oreo Pie Recipe tips
This pie will taste absolutely delicious no matter how you present it — but here are a few tips to help the process go smoother and the finished results look extra special.
- Take the time to crush your cookies well to create a firmer crust that sets better.
- Don’t over-mix the whipped cream into the pudding or it can get flat
How to store leftover Oreo Cream Pie
This pie needs to be refrigerated , and will last in the fridge for several days (it’s a great make-ahead dessert).
You can also freeze this pie and either eat it as a frozen pie or let it defrost before you’re ready to eat. \

Anyone know how to adjust the ingredients for a 9×12 dish so I can have more servings?
Mariee says
I made this for Christmas Eve Dessert tonight, and I did it with Heavy Whipping Cream instead of the Cool Whip.
Word cannot describe… It was amazing.

How mI have whip cream? 2 cups?

How much whip cream? 2 cups??

My husband loves oreos. I will have to save this recipe for his birthday. Crystal, I am like that with avacadoes. I love them and if I try to make something with them, I just end up eating a lot of avacado, so I usually don’t!

This is also yummy made with white chocolate instant pudding and crushed peppermint sprinkled on top.

awesome recipe. ive made it before for my grandkids and they absolutely love it.

The same thing happens in this house with Oreos. I am making Oreo truffles and had to send my husband to the store because we ate through one of the packages I was intending to use! When we were out at the store, my two year old knows the package so well that she had a meltdown when we wouldn’t let her have them in the store.
I also prefer homemade whipped cream, but there is something about Cool Whip that reminds me of childhood, so I occasionally buy some just to have.

Looks yummy!
This question may be silly, but are you using whole cookies for the crust and filling or just the cookie(chocolate)part? Thanks!
Crystal says
@Kathleen, You use whole cookies for both — you crush them for the crust and chop them to fold into the pie.
Kathleen says
@Crystal, Super, thanks so much…also, what size puddings are you using? The smaller 3oz. packages? Can you tell I want to try this!!
Crystal says
@Kathleen, They should be the 4-serving packages.
Kathleen says
@Kathleen, Thank you!! Happy Holidays!

I am a whip cream snob too, my BFF loves cool whip but I try to avoid HFCS, plus I think cool whip bothers my crohn’s anyway. But heres a site which explains how to stablize whip cream, I worked in a bakery(at wild oats so only natural stuff allowed) and we used the unflavored gelatin.

My husband loves Oreos! I think he is an Oreo-aholic! So, I will definitely make this for him. I am sure he would love it! I’m always looking for simple things like this that I can make for him that I know he will like. 🙂

I love cool whip–not a “real” whipping cream snob at all!
Merry Christmas and thanks for all you do!

I have to say, Crystal, that I was very surprised to see you advocating a cool whip recipe! =) We’re major whipping cream snobs around here too…major. The pie looks yummy, though, and I’d be interested in hearing someone’s report of how it goes using real whipping cream.
And way to go, by the way, at not letting any of us “box” you in by trying something outside your “usual” zone every once in awhile!
Crystal says
@Susan (FrugaLouis), 😉
Jackie G. says
Yum!
Jaime says
Crystal, I love your honesty, even in “sponsored posts.” I, too, am a whipping cream snob. Here is a little trick to keep it firmed up when you need to make it ahead for topping or for use as a filling: add a very small amount of instant vanilla pudding powder. Whip the cream until soft peaks form, then sprinkle in the pudding powder. Continue to whip until firm. The pudding powder adds just enough sweetness, too. My ratio is 1 Tbsp pudding powder to 1 pint heavy cream for use as a topping. You may want to adjust up when you’re filling a pie or tart.
Melanie says
Thanks for the recipe! I’ve been wondering what to make with the cool whip in my freezer.
Chelsea says
We have the exact same problem with oreos- my kids and husband usually gobble them up before I can get anything made!! 🙂
Jenae {I Can Teach My Child} says
I bet it would be even better with some peanut butter in the pudding mixture!
I can’t stand crushing oreos (I can only do 6 at a time in my wimpy food processor)! I know you used to be able to buy pre-made Oreo pie shells by the graham cracker pie crusts at the grocery store. The last time I went to our local grocery store, they didn’t have them. But I might have to try Target. 🙂 Oreo just needs to sell their chopped oreos boxed (like graham cracker crumbs)…it would make life easier!
Erin says
@Jenae {I Can Teach My Child}, Janae, They do sell crushed oreos in a box. Not every store in my area has them but I have bought them before.
Sarah in MO says
That looks yummy!!! I LOVE real whipped cream for on top of pies, but I’ll use whipped topping in recipes. 🙂 I’d love to try this one! 🙂
The Working Home Keeper says
We prefer to make our own whipped cream too – using real cream from a local farm. Pie looks good though!

That looks fantastic. I am going to make it today! I also noticed your antique pie holder……..I love it!
Crystal says
@Annette B, I have a few special dishes from my grandmother and great grandmother which I love using!
Lana says
@Crystal, I have that same ‘cut glass’ plate that you have under your pie and it belonged to my Grandmother! You could try the fat free Cool Whip for recipes like this. I find that it tastes alot less artificial and closer to a ‘real’ taste. Regular Cool Whip I just cannot eat as I hate the weird fat taste of it.
LouAnne says
This looks delicious and OH SO easy! I love desserts like that. Thank you for sharing it!! I was thinking.. wonder what it would be like to substitute 4 oz of softened cream cheese for the butter?? I’m always looking for a way to work more cream cheese into my life! LOL!
Crystal says
@LouAnne, Let us know if you try it and how it works!
Bobbi says
Sounds delicious. Has anyone tried using a generic brand of oreos? I know they are not quite as good but with 3 hungry kids I’m always looking for ways to save on groceries. This would be devoured in no time at my house.
Crystal says
@Bobbi, I actually made the pie pictured with “Oreos” from Aldi.
Shh! Don’t tell anyone. 🙂
Kelly says
Can you share your homemade coolwhip recipe?
The Working Home Keeper says
@Kelly,
Not Crystal, but for making homemade whipped cream, I just take heavy cream (I buy a brand from a local dairy) and beat (with an electric handheld whisk) until whipped cream forms. Seriously easy! You can then sweeten with local honey or flavor with homemade vanilla. But don’t beat too long, or you’ll get butter! I also chill my bowl and whisk attachment in the freezer for 10 minutes per instructions from “The All New Joy of Cooking” prior to making whipped cream.
Stephanie says
I take cream, vanilla and sugar and use a hand mixer and end up with yummy whipped cream. I will have to try chilling the bowl and beaters first next time.
Julie says
We love the Oreo Cookie Ice Cream Dessert so I’m sure this one would be awesome too.
Miss Agnes says
okay to use the 6 inch pie?
Shannon says
Looks yummy. What size Cool Whip tub did you use?
Kristine says
Thanks for sharing this recipe. This pie would be really festive with the holiday oreos that have red cream inside! 🙂
Monica Glaser says
Pie looks wonderful! I cant wait to make it tomoorw!
Susan says
I’ve crushed Oreos using the grater blade with the food processor attachment for my Bosch. It works really well and turns them into fine crumbs. And it is really quick. I’ve also seen it done with the grater attachment to the kitchenaid.
Terra Wagley says
I have been looking for a easy ,quick, dessert receipe for Christmas Dinner-found it thank you for sharing!!
Steph says
You could add a brick of cream cheese in there and maybe cut the cool whip in half to make it cheese cakish 🙂
Emily says
@Steph, Oh yummy idea!
Katie Gregg says
My husband would probably love this, although I’m not sure I’d be able to eat it – just the THOUGHT of Cool Whip grosses me out. Oreos, on the other hand…well, I just try not to think about the trans fat!
susan says
This looks and sounds so very Yummy! Do you think it can be made dairy free? Maybe with soy milk?
Kelly says
I’m wondering about using real whipping cream as well. I would love to, but would it hold up in this recipe? I don’t like the “oily” taste in cool whip.
Kim says
FYI, I tried crushing Oreos in the blender just the other day and it didn’t work very well at all. BUT, I put them in my little food processor and it worked like a charm! Happy crushing!!
Melanie says
It does look great and I’d totally modify it to cut out the HFCS or any trans-fats. I think I’d try real whipping cream and Joe Joe’s cookies from TJ’s. Sounds and looks yummy!
AshleyLanea says
Yum, that pie looks delicious! I am a big fan of oreos, too, especially the double-stuffed! 😉 And I had to laugh at your last sentence – “Yes, we’re real whipping cream ‘snobs’ like that.” – haha! I’m afraid I’d fall under that catagory, too. Ever since I whipped my first batch of cream a few months ago…I’ve been hooked! 🙂
Cindy says
Would someone be willing to email me their whip cream recipe? I have been looking for a good one for a while.
Thanks!
Cindy
PS That pie looks yummy!
Veronica says
@Cindy, I stole this recipe directly from smittenkitchen.com, because it really is the best:
Homemade whipped cream takes less than five minutes to make. The trick: a cold bowl, clean beaters, and a ratio of about 1 cup of heavy or whipping cream to 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar, beaten until it holds soft peaks. Start at a low speed, so you don’t splash yourself when it is still liquid.
To stabilise it so that the whipped cream last longer without softening, dissolve 1 teaspoon of gelatin in 2 tablespoons of boiling water, cool it to room temperature and drizzle it into your whipping cream when it is halfway thickened. Add a splash of flavoring (vanilla, almond, or a liqueur) at the end for extra awesomeness.
charity says
That looks SO delicious! Great job.

I’m a real whipping cream gal too. Although I do like cool whip in some Kraft.com dessert recipes. It’s holds up in the dessert whereas real whip cream does not. You have to eat it right away or it kind of melts. But oh, it is soooooo good!
