Hmm, the first time you posted the deal for the kids account, I thought maybe I’ll do it and a second side account for my daughters savings.
Obviously you are promoting this, but is this a deal you take advantage of?
I love my ING Savings Account. Though the interest rate has dropped dramatically over the last few years, it’s still much better than our bank’s interest rates. Because of that, I’m going to take them up on this offer and try out their checking. If nothing else, I’ll use it as a place to deposit rebate checks, etc., and then have it as a ‘flex’ account for vacation and holiday spending. Thanks for sharing!
When you posted this deal Friday I tried to set up an account for my son. Since it was friday the “little credits” they use to verify your linked checking account won’t go through until monday (past the deal deadline). I called them. They *seemed* to be helpful stating they noted the account so he’d still get the $25 credit but it was after much “checking with someone else” and trying one thing then another to get the account going differently, using reference codes and such but settled on just notating.
Now when I tried to sign up for the $103 deal 1st – of course the linked account validation method will put me well past their deadline for this opportunity (crazy they do this over the weekend but can’t verify accounts over the weekend). AND now there is a message saying that since I am a new customer (had to be on my son’s account even though I myself don’t have an account) that I cannot create any other new accounts for 30 days. Its late but they say 8a – 8p 7 days/ week can call a csrep. I’ll try tomorrow and see if they still give me this deal. Or even if they say they do that on day 50 it actually happens.
@jdp, Call customer service! They can help you out!
I already have an account with them , I wonder if I can open another one -does anyone know?
oh no! i opened an account for my 4 youngest but the $25 isn’t showing up! has everyone else’s showed up immediately?
@Rebecca K, I was an existing ING customer but I funded my son’s new account from my non-ING checking account rather than my ING savings. Since the $25 did not show up right away, I called customer service, and the rep double checked and confirmed that the $25 was in the account, but wouldn’t show up in the account summary until after the transfer from my bank cleared, which takes two business days.
If you are worried about it, give customer service a call and tell them you are worried that maybe you signed up incorrectly; they should be able to confirm the deposit for you.
@Rebecca K, I called customer service because my daughter’s $25 didn’t show up right away while my son’s did. The person on the phone immediately credited her account and it was visible right away.
Well- hubby and I wanted to open up savings accounts for all 4 of our kids. I took the big two and he took the little two’s info and tried to get this done. I only got our eldest’s opened before I ran into issues. It looks like I can’t do anything else until the deposits are made to verify the linked account. The $25 also did not automatically get credited to his account.
@Julia, If you will call the customer service number that shows up when you try to add another account, they will give you a reference number for you to be able to open the other two accounts. I ran into that problem too. It’s simply because your banking info hasn’t been verified. Once it is verified, you’ll be able to open the other accounts. It’s a long wait(about 20 minutes or so) on the phone, but for me, it was worth it. They were very, very helpful, polite and efficient on the phone!
I opened a kid’s account for my 2 year old and funded it with $5 from my ING savings account. I didn’t check it right away, but now, about 6 hours later, the account has $30 in it. I also opened a checking account for myself but of course I have to wait to get the debit card, do 7 transactions and wait til day 50.
Thanks for the heads up on this deal!
We opened one for our son and it showed up immediately.
My husband was contemplating setting one up for himself as well so he could get the $25 for my daughter. Now (with this deal) I think he is going to do it for sure.
We’ve had an ING account for years now (under my name only…maybe I got it before we got married? We can’t seem to remember why it only has my name!), and the only drawback is that if you need money fast, it’s not easy to get to. It’s not quite as liquid as having your savings and checking at the same brick and mortar bank. Of course…that actually can be a good thing!
I got the credit right away with no problems, it just is shown as not available. What a great freebie!!!
I can’t seem to find the black friday icon to click on to create the accounts.
The csreps are very helpful. I had issues bc I had an acct with them ages ago. So I had to do everything over the phone. Since I made each child the primary they were considered separate new customers and both got the $25, but I had to do it manually over the phone. Then I have to send a check with my updated bank data. Totally worth the work!!
This is a good deal but beware that when applying for this account, you are also applying for credit-that being the overdraft protection. So if you are being extra careful about credit apps and credit score these days, just know that this is will involve a credit check. If you are teetering between fair and good credit by a point or two, this is something you would want to know!
This seems like a really good deal and when you first posted about the kid’s checking accounts I went to sign up, but because they ask for SSNs I became concerned about identity theft. I’ve never heard of ING before this- are they a reputable group?
@Jess, Jess – ING is totally reputable. I’ve had accounts with them for almost ten years now. They don’t have “brick & mortar” banks in the US which provides them with lower overhead allows them to do these kind of deals and have higher interest rates than most banks. They’re international and I saw branches all over while traveling overseas.
ING is a great bank to work with. We have our primary checking account as well as some savings accounts and some CDs. Once you have accounts thru them, you can move money pretty easily between them. We also use their website to transfer money between our credit unions.
Yes, they have a small line of credit as their overdraft. We love that. If you fall $20 in the hole, you get charged like 20cents or something unlike the typical $25+ fee. If you fall in the hole, they do not take any money out of savings automatically. I was upset about this once but understand the reason. (My whole mortgage payment bounced because I was short $200 in my checking account). Savings is there for a “savings account” and not as a back up money source if you go negative.
ING is a very reputable bank. The fact that they ask for a social security card is because it is a bank – almost all banks ask for that as a way of identity.
We have found their customer service great over all. Great when dealing with debit card issues etc. You can dispute charges on our checking account right online.
If I had kids, I would opening up their saving account with this offer. I love ING. The only reason we are members of a credit union is because we have to be for my husbands line of work.
We opened one for both our sons and the money showed up right away. Thanks! We love ING.
After reading the comments, I am actually going to look into ING myself!
I love ING! I have had a savings account with them since 2004 and never had any problems it is my main savings account. Then I opened one of the checking accounts last year because they did a deal like this (except last year it was $121 but only 3 transactions needed). I don’t have a lot in it, it is just my “last resort” type emergency fund lol. USAA is who I use for my credit cards and primary checking.
I just opened the savings accounts for both my boys. I put $25 in each (which will not go through until tomorrow) and the bonus shows up already.
I have been waiting to sign up for an account through ING for a little while now, after hearing about them through Dave Ramsey’s website forums. This is the perfect opportunity and I was so excited to see they were running such a great promotion.
Lastnight, I signed up for a savings account for my daughter. Today, I found out about the Orange Checking promotion and tried to sign up. I got a message to call cutomer service because there was a small problem. I waited on hold for about 30 minutes but it was totally worth it! They were SUPER nice & explained that I got the message because my bank account had not been verified yet and there was no place to take any money from to deposit into the new account.
They gave me 2 reference codes so I would still be able to get the $103 and the $25… 1 for the Orange Checking and one for the Kids Savings account
I love ING too! I’ve been using them for three years I have 4 saving accounts set up. It is the best and easiest way I’ve found for saving money. Every month I transfer money from my credit union into my ING emergency fund, Christmas fund, car fund and vacation fund. I also connected my Paypal account so when I receive payments for surveys it goes right into my vacation fund. The other bonus is that they offer a higher interest rate. It does take two business days to get your money but that’s what my regular savings account is for. So excited get the $25 when I opened up my kids accounts this weekend. I highly recommend them.
i got a notice at the end saying they were unable to open my account with the information i provided and to call customer service. customer service isn’t open again until tomorrow, which is after the deal expires. suggestions?
I thought this promotion lasted through sunday at midnight? I went to open an account for my boys, but it said the black friday sale has ended.
( I’m so sad. Was there too much of a response and so they closed early you think?
I signed up both my kids this weekend (I’m an existing customer), but didn’t get a bonus. Called this morning, and they credited $25 for both kids immediately! Great service!
I opened a savings account for my daughter on Friday. They were not able to verify my account, and credit my initial deposit until Monday. I called this morning (Tuesday) as the $25.00 had not shown up on my account. Customer service was superb! They immediately credited my account with the $25.00. I am very happy with their service. Thanks for this MSM!
Did anyone save the information on what to do to get the $103 in the orange checking? You had to use the debit card 7 times in 45 days, but you had to use it a certain way. Was it as a debit card (with pin) or as a credit card (no pin)? I can’t remember or find the information online anywhere.
@Alice, I remember it saying something like signature purchase NOT using pin, but makes me wonder, what if total is only a couple dollars many places don’t require a signature. So would that count? I don’t know!! Wondering same as you and can’t find info online either!
@Casey, I just sent an email to ing through their message center, hope to get a clear answer. I will share what I hear.
@Casey,
I was curious about the same thing. A google search came up with a site that said the seven transactions could be either pin or signature based transactions or P2P (their version of paypal).
http://www.mybanktracker.com/bank-news/2010/11/26/ing-direct-103-electric-orange-2010-black-friday-checking-bonus/
@Lindsey, I did get a response from Ing, they said the 7 transactions can be using a pin or signing. Or they can be P2P. Any combination of these. But visiting the ATM to deposit/withdrawl money does not count as transaction. You must actualy pay for something.
