Christmas Gift Guide: My six favorite kitchen items (and you can win them, too!)

by Crystal on November 10, 2010

A number of months ago, Federated Media (my ad network) contacted me about possibly doing a Gift Guide for Christmas. I’ve never done a Gift Guide before because I’m a minimalist and all and didn’t think I could come up with enough items I could wholeheartedly encourage you to considering buying to actually put together a gift guide!

But the more I discussed the possibility with Federated Media and thought about it, the more I realized this could be a great win-win! So, I’m excited to tell you that Pier 1 is underwriting my first-ever Christmas Gift Guide and for the next six weeks, I’ll be sharing about one of my favorite kitchen items every Wednesday. This will be an item which has been given as a gift to me and which I’ve used over and over and over in my own kitchen.

Not only will I be telling you about my six favorite kitchen items, but I’ll be giving one (or more!) of each of them away to a reader here each week!

First up, Marie Madeline Aprons. Head over to see some adorable pictures of my girls and to enter to win a Marie Madeline Apron of your choosing (to keep for yourself, or give away to someone!).

Subscribe for free email updates and be entered to win $100!

    I’m curious to hear if you’ve started using that KitchenAid mixer!!

    • Crystal November 10, 2010 at 09:45 pm

      I tried really hard. Just do not like it. Too big, bulky and time-consuming to clean. Yes, call me weird. :)

        @Crystal, I’m so envious…I would love to have one. I have a sunbeam now and am hoping to get a kitchen aid by saving my penny’s over the next 2 years. I use mine mostly at the holidays when I do a lot of baking. I keep a small handheld for quick jobs!

        • Crystal November 10, 2010 at 10:02 pm

          I would totally give you mine if you lived nearby! I got it from my Grandma when she died — hoping that I’d fall in love with it like everyone else has, it seems. But I was never raised with one, so I just can’t seem to “get it”. I’m hanging onto it for my girls, hoping one of them will want it!

      @Leisa,
      I got a kitchenaid stand mixer and didn’t like it either. I emded up returning it and getting a high quality hand held. So much simpler and works better too (I think).

      • Crystal November 10, 2010 at 10:52 pm

        Oh, you don’t know how much your comment made my day! I thought I was the only person on the planet who preferred a hand-held mixer!

          @Crystal,

          Crystal, you have company. I’ve had my KitchenAid for over 2 years. I’ve used it once. A very costly dust collector. :-) Also, very heavy to move around too much. I received a GE hand mixer for a wedding gift in 1964, and I’m still using it. I will be devastated if anyhting happens to it. It looks and works just as it did from day one…with the exception of some wear on the bottom of the beater and the “high, med., low” being washed off from years of cleaning it. The unit and beaters are made of material that we can never find in appliaces today. They were meant to last a life time, and are well on their way to proving that. My daughter-in-law has her eye on that KitchenAid. I absolutely adore her, so very soon she’ll have her hands on it, too. :-)

    Those are so precious. I would love one for my 4 year old.

  • julie alverson November 10, 2010 at 11:25 pm

    I love it! So fun!

  • Baby Coupon Mom November 11, 2010 at 09:40 am

    I’m with you. I rarely use my K A mixer, and kept it a side as it’s taking so much space. I am glad I paid <$100 with a price match and AR, not the full price.

  • Dan Cyr November 11, 2010 at 03:41 pm

    nice touch.

  • Laura November 11, 2010 at 03:47 pm

    Oh, what a fun idea! Thank you :)

  • Jenn @ Beautiful Calling November 11, 2010 at 06:04 pm

    I absolutely agree that an apron (or two!) is a kitchen must-have. I too feel feminine and industrious wearing mine. Both my littles have their own little aprons and as soon as I tell them to get theirs on, they know they’re in for an adventure!

  • Shilrey November 12, 2010 at 08:53 am

    SO fun!!!

  • Alida Rodriguez November 13, 2010 at 03:35 am

    Very cool!

  • Christine November 14, 2010 at 03:55 pm

    Cute girls & cute aprons! What a beautiful gift!
