My mom just made one of these for us. My girls love it!

Crystal, this is titled “no-sew,” but the instructions do call for some simple sewing.

Crystal October 11, 2010 at 8:59 am

Thanks for catching my mistake! I realized that only one version was no-sew!

Rebekah {honeyandcheese} October 11, 2010 at 9:00 am

@Crystal, And I totally missed the second version that IS no-sew! Sorry about that. :)

Jenae {I Can Teach My Child} October 11, 2010 at 8:49 am

The second version is the “no-sew” version. :)

Shows how closely I looked. :) Thanks, Jenae!

I love this. I have been wanting to install some easy-access bookshelves in my son’s room, and love bunting flags as well – this is so cute! On the sewing list it goes . . .

If you are going to try to find the director’s chairs at Lowe’s for the fabric, you may need to search different stores in your area to find the lowest price. The lowest price I can find around me is $1.24 but not all Lowe’s in my area have these on sale.

If you add the chair covers to your Lowe’s cart and find they are not on sale, try changing your store location at the top of the screen (if you have other stores nearby). Your cart will automatically update to the price that store if offering.

Love this!

Family Fun magazine just had a tutorial on these in their magazine, too.

I saw these in Family Fun this month as well….I bought an extra curtain panel on sale at Wal Mart to make one for my boys room to match their curtains. Love it!

This is a fantastic idea! The only thing I noticed that could be improved was the thickness of the dowel inserted in the director chair cover. In the picture once books are added they are sagging pretty bad, but with a thicker dowel it would be perfect. Looks like the a 1/2 inch one would fit. Definitely will be making one of these!
Thank you!

Jenae {I Can Teach My Child} October 11, 2010 at 1:53 pm

@JoAnna, The only reason I used that thickness is because it was all that would fit in the slots. 1/2 ” was too big (and I tried). The books do sag some, but the metal pole is really strong. I wouldn’t suggest using a dowel rod as they will break easier than a pencil (or so my hardware salesperson tells me). :)

This is the book storage solution I’ve been looking for! In our new house, the bookshelf won’t fit in my daughter’s room. =( She has tons of books in our storage room, because there is no where to put them. I think there is space around her bed to put at least 3 of these. Whoohoo, I’m so excited!

Sara October 11, 2010 at 12:59 pm

I checked out the “no sew” version, then looked up the director’s chairs. They are only in red. =( My daughter’s room is pink and green.

Okay, so what if I bought fabric to match her room, and used safety pins around the dowel rods? I can use the rest of the “no sew” directions from there. It would be easy to hot glue the ribbon OVER the safety pins so they won’t show.

Jenae {I Can Teach My Child} October 12, 2010 at 1:29 pm

@Sara, Actually, if you just type in “director chair cover” on the Lowe’s website, it should come up with red, green, blue, black, and tan. :)

Sara October 12, 2010 at 4:20 pm

@Jenae {I Can Teach My Child},

Thank you. I did that, but my store only has red. If I can’t convince someone to sew them up for me, I’ll just try out the safety pens. Thanks for responding!
