JCPenney.com: 28 pairs of girls’ socks for $8.47!

A couple of commentors tipped me off to this deal yesterday and I finally had a chance to investigate it this afternoon. And it worked!

I just ordered 28 pairs of girls’ socks for only $8.47! I’m very happy as the girls really needed new socks for the colder months and I really didn’t want to pay through the nose again like I did last year.

(I learned my lesson about procrastinating last year when the cold weather hit and we had no socks and I ended up having to run to Kohl’s to buy some. I about flipped when it was over $5 for a few pairs of kid’s socks. What is up with the outrageous prices for kid’s underwear and socks? I mean c’mon, people, does it really cost that much for that tiny little bit of thread and fabric??

This year, I decided I was going to get smart and plan ahead. Maybe not months ahead like some of you organization queens do, but I call it success when I already have socks purchased for the winter and we’re still enjoying 80+ degrees and sandals! :) )

Here’s how I got 28 pairs of girls’ socks for only $8.47:

JCPenney.com has packages of seven pairs of socks marked down from $9.99 to $2.99. I purchased four packages at $2.99 each and then used the $10 off coupon code GO4TEN at checkout. My order total was $8.47 including shipping and tax after the discount was calculated.

I’m doubtful that two girls need 28 pairs of socks, so I’m thinking the extras will work great in our shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child!

Thank you so much for the tip. I just got the same deal this evening online on socks for my 5 year old who just started kindergarten! What a deal! Much appreciated!

Carrie September 21, 2010 at 4:17 pm

I got them for $6.46 because I had them shipped to our local catalog center! This was a GREAT idea for Operation Christmas Child!

Ashley September 21, 2010 at 4:19 pm

This is awesome deal!! Thank you!!

Glenda September 21, 2010 at 4:33 pm

I ordered 28 pair to send to an orphanage in China. Our Sunday School class has two families that have adopted little girls from China and we have sent the orphanage socks and underwear for the little girls.

My total came to $6.78 because I had the socks shipped to the store.

Thanks so much for the heads up!

Glenda

@Glenda, Thank you SO much for this tip. I couldn’t find ANYTHING I liked and had decided to dismiss this opportunity. But I now ordered items to put in our operation Christmas Child Box!

Michelle September 21, 2010 at 4:42 pm

Great deal! Thanks for posting! Cheaper than 1 pack at walmart or target!

Patti September 21, 2010 at 4:57 pm

I was going to buy these, but I can’t figure out the sizing!

Rhoda September 21, 2010 at 6:36 pm

@Patti,
Sizes: S(fits shoe size 7-10), M(10½-3½), L(4-10)

Karen September 21, 2010 at 5:00 pm

Thanks Crystal! I have no children, but I got them for my OCC shoeboxes. Anyone have any clue as to sizes and ages? I have no idea if small would be 4 yrs. or 8!

jen September 21, 2010 at 7:51 pm

@Karen,
Look at one of the other clearance pairs by the same brand. They list the size chart in the description of one of the other packs. It might be the one that is 3.99. I figure same brand, same size chart…

Sherri September 21, 2010 at 9:54 pm

@Karen, My soon-to-be 4-year old wears shoe size 10, so he would need the small size socks. As far as I know, he is pretty average sized. Hope that helps.

amanda redfern September 21, 2010 at 5:04 pm

I wear a girls size large in socks and I am a grown woman…ladies size 7 1/2-8 in shoes. I think the socks are very forgiving.

Jessica Lynette September 21, 2010 at 5:10 pm

Kids underwear and socks really are SO expensive! I have a dear friend who passes on her sons underwear to us and I LOVE it!! She only buys Gymboree underwear and that stuff is built to last! If you want to invest in underwear that will last for all 12 of your children I have been above and beyond impressed with Gymboree {however, I could still never bring myself to pay their prices!}

Deals like this JCPenny one really make my challenge to only shop second hand stores for us a TRUE challenge – if the Nigerian children wore socks I’d get them to take over, but they all go bare foot or flip flops so it’s impractical!

Crystal September 21, 2010 at 5:16 pm

I’m going to check on the Gymboree undies next time I’m there (which is like once every two years, but…!) Maybe they put them on clearance and I can pair it with a 40% off coupon? :)

Kim September 21, 2010 at 6:43 pm

@Crystal,
Gymboree undies is all my son wears, since they hold up well (no shrinking) and fit his body type better than anything I’ve tried (he’s picky about undies). We have a Gymboree outlet on our way to visiting the grandparents. They usually have discounted undies, but will not accept coupons at the outlet store.

Melissa R September 21, 2010 at 10:34 pm

@Kim,

gymboree has a red bin sale the day after thanksgiving every year with prices starting at .99cents ! so awesome to take advantage of!

Carrie September 22, 2010 at 12:08 pm

@Jessica Lynette,

I agree. My MIL bought each of my boys a pair from there and they have been nothing but amazing. They are made of very heavy material and don’t show much wash wear and have zero shrinkage!

Lana September 21, 2010 at 5:13 pm

My college kids think they need 28 pairs of socks so they only have to do laundry every 4 weeks!!!

Priscilla September 22, 2010 at 10:30 pm

doesn’t it take up room to store dirty laundry for 4 weeks? It’s beyond me, where they would store their laundry til they ran out.

Lana September 23, 2010 at 7:09 am

@Priscilla, They feel like they are wearing clean clothes if they have on clean socks and underwear. One of my kids claimed you could wear socks and underwear inside out the second day. Jeans can go for a week or more and shirts for 2-3 days. Trust me, I did not raise them this way but all 5 of my kids have done this when they went to college. I do battle with them when they come home for the summer about wearing dirty clothes because to me they stink! Then there is the thing with only washing their bedding once a term. I kid you not!

Sheri September 21, 2010 at 5:14 pm

Awesome deal!! Thank you SO much! My 12 year old goes through socks like crazy! Saved a bunch of $$!

K September 21, 2010 at 5:15 pm

what size would a girls 13 shoes be for a 6 year old?
i cudn’t figure out the size chart either…

Rhoda September 21, 2010 at 6:38 pm

@K,
Sizes: S(fits shoe size 7-10), M(10½-3½), L(4-10)

Anne September 21, 2010 at 5:17 pm

We needed some new socks for winter! ‘Got those plus Christmas gifts for my two nieces! YAY! Thanks for the tip!

Tara September 21, 2010 at 5:19 pm

Thank you so much. That is one heck of a deal!

JessicaC September 21, 2010 at 5:19 pm

What a great tip! Just got 28 prs for my 2 girls (and anyone else who needs them!) for $7.91! Thanks so much!

Alaina @ Three Ladies and a Dad September 21, 2010 at 5:43 pm

Where are the socks that are marked down? I can’t seem to find any at that price.

Emily September 21, 2010 at 5:54 pm

@Alaina @ Three Ladies and a Dad,
The socks are under the clearance tab and then in the kids section. I’m having trouble determining size too!

Chastidy Buttram September 21, 2010 at 5:58 pm

@Alaina @ Three Ladies and a Dad,

Me either? Maybe they are all sold out???

Erin September 21, 2010 at 6:15 pm

@Chastidy Buttram, I just did this deal (7:15pm Central time) and found them ok. I searched for “socks” (instead of digging through the site) and then clicked on “girls” at the left. Then I chose to have them displayed by price so that the $2.99 ones were first. Hope that helps!! :)

DZ September 21, 2010 at 6:04 pm

@Alaina @ Three Ladies and a Dad, Look under the CLEARANCE tab and you should find them.

margaret September 21, 2010 at 6:00 pm

Of course another great deal, thanks I got about 24 pair of socks and the sharing tree can always use them… thanks

Jessica September 21, 2010 at 6:09 pm

Thank you for the heads up. I was going to hold off on this, but I thought about what you said about waiting until winter to purchase and I know first hand how expensive socks are, so I went for it.

Thank you again!

Angie Ward September 21, 2010 at 6:09 pm

AWESOME DEAL! THANK YOU!

Tina Davis September 21, 2010 at 6:26 pm

The offer on the socks just expired.

Cindy September 21, 2010 at 6:33 pm

Payless’s site says Size S/M fits shoe sizes 5 – 9. Size M/L fits shoe sizes 9 – 3. My 6 year old is a 13 so I’m going for mediums.

Cindy September 21, 2010 at 6:39 pm

JCP’s clearanced white socks say

# Small fits shoe sizes 7-10
# Medium 10½-3½
# Large 4-10

mrs spock September 21, 2010 at 6:38 pm

Thanks for the deal! I don;t have a girl, but got these for the local shelter- they are always in need of socks and underwear.

Mary Ann September 21, 2010 at 6:54 pm

Thanks for the deal–all of the size small are sold out (8:45 pm ET) so I got the medium and am crossing my fingers that they will fit my daughter who is right on the border for sizing. That was fast–there were small available when I put them in the cart, but they were gone by the time I checked out a few minutes later.

Also–many of these will go into our shoeboxes for Samaritan’s Purse! Whoo hoo!

Megan September 21, 2010 at 6:59 pm

I’ve been using the coupon code for my husband’s shirts. Many styles he likes are marked down to $10.70 (young men’s sizes), making the total 70 cents before shipping! WOW!!

Tami September 21, 2010 at 7:19 pm

Hmmmm, too bad there aren’t any boy socks on sale… My 3 year old is stocked on everything but those.

Maria September 21, 2010 at 7:29 pm

Does anyone know how to get it shipped to the store? I don’t see that option. Thanks!

G September 21, 2010 at 7:46 pm

That’s what I like to hear, a mom that takes care of her girls with a good bargain but also shares with others. I love Operation Christmas Child. I am an area coordinator in FL and these are the kinds of stories that warm my heart.

Tara September 21, 2010 at 8:42 pm

Out of stock I couldnt order any :(

Leah September 21, 2010 at 8:51 pm

Crystal, I’m just curious how you can order products online without a credit card??

Crystal September 21, 2010 at 9:21 pm

Debit cards, gift cards or Paypal. :)

Christy September 22, 2010 at 7:05 pm

@Crystal, I keep hearing not to use debit cards online because of security reasons–a thief can drain your account and you can’t get it back like you do with a credit card–what have you heard about this?

Crystal September 22, 2010 at 8:21 pm

Visa debit cards (which we use) have as much protection as credit cards. In fact, our card was compromised once and with one phone call, they stopped the charges, refunded the money, and issued a new card number.

Danielle September 21, 2010 at 9:39 pm

The socks were all gone but I got a good deal on boys t-shirts!!!

Fay September 21, 2010 at 11:01 pm

some of the swimsuits are priced at $10.20. You would only pay shipping.

Angela September 22, 2010 at 3:46 am

Seems they are all out of stock. Multicolored and White, Medium and Large, at least. bummer!

Jessica-MomForHim September 22, 2010 at 6:01 am

socks are all gone in all sizes. :-( I wish I had thought of this yesterday, as I have 5 girls and usually end up paying for them like Crystal said! Bummer.

Danielle September 22, 2010 at 11:33 am

@Jessica-MomForHim, Jessica, call them!!!! I was getting “sold out” messages too, but then called and they had quite a few of what I wanted! The Girls Athletic socks in size small were sold out, but I got the Neon and No Show styles and the White No Show styles! I don’t know what sizes you’re wanting, but at least give it a try and call!!!! Many times they aren’t actually completely sold out, but just limiting how much can be sold online so the store doesn’t accidentally oversell something they’re trying to clearance out!!!
And if you live close enough to a JCPenney that it wouldn’t be inconvenient to just go pick it up you can save even more- $2-3 depending on how much you order!
Hope this helps!

stephanie September 22, 2010 at 7:37 am

They aren’t all sold out! I just placed an order for 4 pairs of girls socks and it worked for me!

Crystal September 22, 2010 at 8:16 am

Ooh! Maybe the restocked! Thanks for letting me know!

Sarah September 22, 2010 at 10:00 am

Says soldout for me….I will check back later…

kama September 22, 2010 at 1:44 pm

Rachel September 22, 2010 at 1:58 pm

When in the checkout process do I enter the coupon code? I have gone through the checkout process carefully several times, all the way up to the point of entering payment information, but I can’t find any place to enter the codes and have my order discounted. Can anyone help me?

Rebekah September 22, 2010 at 2:32 pm

All smalls sold out as of Wednesday afternoon.

Christy September 22, 2010 at 7:14 pm

Socks and underwear burn a hole in our budget too for 2 reasons:

1. Socks and underwear are not as easy to pass down as other clothing: I buy all of my son’s clothes at goodwill, garage sales, and consignment shops (literally, I think I have only bought him new clothes items 2 or 3 times in 3+ years). Used undies/socks are usually not sold at such places nor would I want to buy them–ew!! Except for the socks worn for the first few months, I end up recycling all of his socks (I am a teacher and they make great whiteboard erasers for my students’ desks) b/c they have holes and/or are stained/brown and yucky so boy #2 who arrives in Dec. will not have many hand-me-down socks (or underwear–wear, stains too) but will have all other kinds of hand-me-downs.

2. The other source of clothing we have for our son is gifts–birthday, Christmas and grandparents/aunts that spoil him and give him clothing just because or anytime they visit or we visit them. No one ever gives him socks or underwear (even though I have hinted about the socks–like when they ask at Christmas time–what are his sizes? What does he need? –oh, this is weird but he really doesn’t need anything except for socks right now. So I get tons of clothes and a 3 pack of socks–LOL! I guess the socks are just not as cute as the overalls and sweaters).

Linda R September 22, 2010 at 10:22 pm
