you can request sample of others products too!!!! :]
Yeah, I did it and it seemed to work!
The site would only allow me to do 5 samples. Still a great freebie find, thanks!
Is this really ethical? They are giving samples out so that businesses will order from them, in quantity. just wondering.
As it is not limited to businesses only, it is ethical. In addition, many of the readers here have their own business. However, if you don’t feel comfortable ordering from them because of this, then I encourage you not to do so.
@nancyr,
Hi Nancy,
The best approach to this is the golden rule. Do unto others…
The margin of profit for pens and pencils is really high and most likely they have taken into consideration a very low rate of return for samples given. Having said that the ethics of sampling are very personal. I eat tons of stuff at Costco that I will never buy for health reasons and budgetary restrictions and don’t consider it an ethical dilemma.
If you desperately need a pen and you are on a very tight budget go ahead and get it.
@nancyr, Thanks for asking, I had also wondered this. Thanks for the info ladies.
you can only do one request order of 5 per address just btw.
I ordered some reuseable shopping samples about 2-3 months ago and I still haven’t rec’d them. I hope everyone else gets theirs.
It would only allow me to do 5 at a time.
I also was able to do 5 but, you can order anything under 5.00 doesn’t just have to be pens!!!
Ordered 3 pens, mouse pad and water bottle……..
were you able to put names on them?
@nanasewn, It didn’t ask for names, but when I did this before, I just received my pen engraved with my name and was pleasantly surprised!
No, you can not personalize the samples. It allowed 5 samples in an order. Any other orders to the same address requires you to call costumer service. I’m looking forward to trying the pen samples. If I like them, I’ll definitely recommend them.
Man, I’ve never seen so many pens/pencils/highlighters in my life! It looks like if it’s made-they carry it.
Hey guys im having trouble finding the “request a sample” button…please help! thanks
@hansa, it’s right below the product title on the product page. If you click “Samples & Catalog” in the top menu bar, it shows you a picture of where the button is.
@alyssa,
Thanks
Yes! Thanks! I was having a hard time finding it as well.
@hansa, I can’t find the button either for the request a sample.
That was amazing! I was able to order 5 sample totes. I know a few people who were wanting to do customized bags. If the samples are nice I’m sending them to this company.
I enjoy this site and am on board with about 97 percent of the philosophy (especially in areas such responsibility and giving). But posts like this trouble me. Granted, there’s no flashing disclaimer, “For businesses only,” but wouldn’t you say it’s obvious that the samples are intended for those who are genuinely interested in buying pens by the 100s?
Just some food for thought, and I hope it is taken in the spirit meant: as constructive criticism for a site I really do appreciate. Thanks for your work, which helps my family stay on budget!
As I said to another commentor, they are making these available to the general public so I don’t believe there is anything wrong in requesting them. I went through the sign up process myself (though I didn’t order any as we don’t need any pens) to double-check that these were available for everyone and they were. If they said, “For Businesses Only” then I would definitely only encourage business owners to request them. But, this is something they are choosing to offer, so I’ve opted to post it for those who are interested. Many of my readers own businesses (as do we!) and this is a great way for them to get their name out and hopefully garner future sales — which is the purpose of all samples.
If you don’t feel comfortable requesting them, then I encourage you not to do so.
I definitely know I can’t please everyone all the time, but I do try my best to make sure that the deals and freebies posted here are ethical and I appreciate your input.
@Crystal,
. But Your site is the best! Thanks Alot!!
I think you are totally right, it did not mention at all that you had to be a business. Also you can order AnyThing under $5.00!! Hope i end up recieving these, i have alot of samples that i order & never recieve
Thanks! We’re in the midst of starting up a property management company and my husband also has a woodworking business. This will be helpful in case we need any promo gifts in the future. I ordered four samples to see what the quality was like, and the cool thing is the items can also double as fillers for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes if they come in time.
Thank you! I babysit my grandchildren so I do have a business! I ordered 5 reusable bags. These are soooo great. Thank you!
I couldn’t believe it when I opened this web site. Not at all what I expected. I spent so much time looking around at all of their products that I almost forgot what I went there for. I did order a few, and ironically they were things that I have recently broken and needed to replace anyway…my letter opener, and my favorite coffee mug, of all things. Grr! Maybe I will have a new favorite mug. Their prices are so reasonable that I may go back and purchase a few things for Christmas. If for no other reason than to say “thank you” for the generous offer of the samples. Our church has an event coming up, that will require purchasing some items in quantity, and this looks like a great place to do that very thing.
yay! ordered 5 bags for Operation Christmas Child
I just ordered 3 lunch kits and 2 calculators. I can never find a calculator when I need one. I hope this works!
not just pens!!! anything under $5.00. (:
I don’t see a problem with requesting samples. Almost everyone knows someone who has a small business. Our church even has customized pencils made, so we can recommend this place next time they need to re-order.
I just ordered 2 totes, a pizza cutter, a pen and a calculator. Great find! Products are reasonable prices too. You can buy the higher price samples at cost too….so it might be worth stopping in to see what is new once in a while!
thanks for that! we do have a small business and are always looking for products!
I hope we do recieve them, i got a tote bag for myself, a pen for the 13 year old, a frisbee for the 11 year old, water bottle for the 3 year old(in pink, her favorite color) and a mousepad for hubby because he always seems to misplace his(dont ask)
everything will be stocking stuffers and if they have quality products, we will order form them again!
Only let me order 5, but that’s okay. It was free. Thank you!
It is my understanding that advertising for businesses can be very expensive. I would think that these samples, whether they go to families or businesses is comparatively cheap advertising for this company. When we lived in MN, there was a county fair that our family loved to go to and we picked up loads of pens and pencils when browsing the booths. Was it ethical to take these from businesses that we had no intention of using? I don’t think so.
I hate to say it but I am going to agree with most commments! These samples are just that! Samples! You are ordering from their business and therefore the products will most likely have their logo/name on it. This is free advertisement! As long as you do not abuse the system, I see no unethical etiquette in accepting these samples.
Thank you. I ordered several samples to see if they would work for my Photography studio.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the free samples. I ordered some for me personally and for my husbands business. I also think if the site wanted businesses only they would have made it so only businesses could sign up. Thanks Crystal for all your research in helping us all save money!
Our family ordered from this company once for gifts for helpers at my sisters wedding. We received free pens about once a month after that for a year. . . with my dad’s name on them! That was really amazing. Now I’m about to get married and I might see if I have time to order any. I had forgotten about Amsterdam until Crystal posted this. Thanks!!
Very neat! I am looking into ordering some promotional things in the future so was thrilled to get the samples. I got a couple of pens, a highlighter and 2 travel mugs.
I just ordered 3 pens, a planner, and a letter opener!! What a great deal! Thanks for the tip!
I’m really glad you posted this. My husband and I run 3 busineses between us and I have been looking for a company like this to order some samples from for our Christmas cards and gifts to customers this year. I ordered 2 nice wall calendars samples and 2 Christmas cards. The only thing I wasn’t pleased with was they did not offer any Christmas cards that said “Christmas” on them. Go figure, but I imagine there isn’t much call for that from most businesses today.
Anyway, thank you so much for sharing this offer!!
I picked my 5 pens but when I got to the end it said I had to contact a customer service rep. to place the order. Did anyone else have this problem?
@G, Were they under $5? The site said any samples that cost more than $5 require contacting CS.
I cant find the printing site that tells about free samples. Please help!
This sample came at a great time. I’ve been pricing out pens to hand out at trade shows for my business. I ordered 3 pens, a reusable tote and a frisbee to try out. I’ve emailed the link to one of my business partners to check out the calendars and other items we have been thinking of purchasing to give to our clients! Thanks for the post.
I just wanted to drop a note of thanks for all that you, and the others that help you with your blog. We have saved so much in a time that we really need it. As a note of blessing we are passing along the message of our website to family!
In the line at Walmart someone asked how I saved 20$ with coupons, and not only the person behind me but others jotted down your website.
Thank you again with wholeheartedness for all that you do to help others.
I ordered measuring spoons, a cup, a water bottle, a sticky note pad, and a journal. I’m a teacher so I’ll be using the items (sans the measuring spoons- those are for me!) for class rewards. If they are good quality I may go back to buy some things to advertise my school or for fundraisers.
I am so excited!!! I found a whole breast cancer section. My mom is battling breast cancer for the 2rd time. I am exctied to promote Breast Cancer awareness!
I could not get anything either … ti said to contact custome r service!
when i tried ordering pens (everything was under $5) i got thru the address part and i hit next and it said to contact customer service???
Thanks so much! I really appreciate this post! I got 5 great smales to try out!
Thanks and Blessings!
Great site and info!Looking forward to my freebies, and if i like them i know where i’m going for xmas gifts!
I’ve looked at the instructions for requesting a free sample but I don’t see it showing up on any items. Do you think they ended this?
@Julie B., J
I’m having the same problem!
I have a feeling they got overwhelmed and canceled orders. When I look at my account with them, there is nothing showing up for Orders.
@Andrea, I possibly stand corrected. After a “Live Chat”, they say the order is shipping tomorrow! Yay!!!!
The “link” for request a sample is gone…bummer will try again tomorrow!
I tried to look at numerous products, but none of them gave the “request a sample” button. Any ideas??
@Heather D,
I was unable to find a request sample button too. I suppose they are trying to limit the number of free samples that go out, and make sure that they are legit. I was able to request a free sample from a rep on the online chat. They do ask about your business, phone, email, and business address. I recently started a freelance design business out of my home, so I was comfortable answering those questions.
I chatted with customer service about the “request a sample” link not showing up and this is what I got:
“I am sorry we have removed the online option. There were a lot of invalid requests due to several incorrect postings on the internet that were not authorized by us. If you have an account, I can request some for you or you can call customer service to request some for you.”
Got a package from Amsterdam with the samples I ordered through our business. Got a 2010 planner. The other samples I asked for were all out of stock. Curious if others got all of theirs.
