I use it on my skin as an alternative to body lotion.

  • sandy April 28, 2010 at 06:31 am

WOOT! I ordered mine. I’ve been anxious to try it as well. I can’t decide how to use mine…must ponder!

    • Joy Yelton April 28, 2010 at 06:37 am

You can use it in place of butter in recipes, you can saute veggies in it, you can fry eggs in it, (it’s stable at higher heat temperatures), as well as an excellent facial and body moisturizer. Just put in the dehydrator or in a bowl of warm water to bring it backs to it’s liquid state. At temps cooler than 76 it will be solidified….

      • sandy April 28, 2010 at 06:53 am

        @Joy Yelton,
Thanks Joy! Does it taste ‘coconutty’? Or is it just like any other oil?

        • MacKenzie April 28, 2010 at 07:50 am

@sandy, The unrefined kinda (which this is) does have a slight coconut flavor. It will be noticeable, but not necessarily unpleasant, if you use if for sauting or frying. But in baking, you can’t tell at all. It’s also great for popping popcorn!

A non-baking use is as a moisturizering oil. It rubs in nicely and doesn’t leave you feeling super oily. And since it has anti-bacterial properties, I’ve heard it is good for baby bottoms.

        • Joy Yelton April 28, 2010 at 08:12 pm

I agree, it does have a slight coconut flavor, but very subtle. That has never deterred any of my kiddos, and believe me, that’s a winner in my book! It doesn’t seem to flavor smoothies, popcorn, only seems to flavor scrambled eggs ever so slightly or other sauteed items. It does have a wonderful coconut scent to it, and after using as a moisturizer, which I highly recommend, you smell divine!

  • Wani April 28, 2010 at 06:50 am

A friend got me hooked on coconut oil popcorn!! Its so yummy!! She makes her popcorn in an air popper and drizzles the heck out of it with melted coconut oil and a good helping of sea salt. I don’t have an air popper so I cook my popcorn in the coconut oil and then drizzle. Give it a try!!

    • Rebekah W April 28, 2010 at 07:47 am

      @Wani,

You can put around 1/4-1/3 cup of kernels in a paper bag, fold the top a couple times, and microwave! No oil needed (until afterwards, of course :-D ).

  • Leanie April 28, 2010 at 06:54 am

I use it as a sub for butter when baking for friends who are lactose intolerant or kids that have dairy allergies. It’s great.

  • Veronica April 28, 2010 at 06:54 am

    Thanks!

  • Sabrina lawrence April 28, 2010 at 06:58 am

I love to saute fresh green beans in it with garlic. My kids love it and don’t know it is good for them :) !

  • The Working Home Keeper April 28, 2010 at 06:59 am

I use organic, extra virgin, cold pressed coconut oil in cooking and baking. Our favorite movie night snack is stove top popcorn using coconut oil. I also use it as a furniture polish with a few drops of lavener added. And as a hair and body moisturizer.

  • Heather April 28, 2010 at 07:03 am

Some of the Sonlight girls use this in their homemade natural deodorant.! :>)

  • Trixie April 28, 2010 at 07:04 am

We use coconut oil at our house for baking and the few things we fry. It is one of the few oils that can handle being heated to 350 degrees and above without turning rancid. It doesn’t really have any noticable odor or taste and it turns out some fantasticly tender baked goods.

I just ordered our sample, I’m pretty sure this will be shut down soon as it’s one of those ‘too good to be true’ samples.

  • JENNIFER April 28, 2010 at 07:04 am

just ordered mine, never tried it before. I am excited

  • Mel April 28, 2010 at 07:10 am

I use it often in place of butter in our baking, makes a fabulous moist product. I also love to put it in our smoothies. It is SO good for you! It is also great for any rashes, etc on the skin.

  • Diane D April 28, 2010 at 07:13 am

  • Ellen April 28, 2010 at 07:13 am

i have heard it makes for delicious popcorn!

  • Amy April 28, 2010 at 07:21 am

Breezed through the first part, but having trouble placing the final order. I think the site just got swamped. Wait! As I was writing this, I got a confirmation through e-mail of my order. The order page never fully loaded though….weird. Great! Excited to try it! :)

  • barb April 28, 2010 at 07:25 am

This offer has now ended…while my order was trying to process…bummer.

  • Tricia April 28, 2010 at 07:47 am

I tried too. It said the offer had ended.

  • Julia April 28, 2010 at 07:48 am

It’s a great natural moisturizer for my AA daughters hair! And the unrefined coconut oil does smell deliciously of real coconut.

I understand it’s a healthful cooking oil too and hope to try that!

Now, if only I can get the cart page to load. . .

Well, it loaded and I put the coconut oil in my cart ($0) and was proceeding through check-out, but when the last page to confirm the order came up, it said my cart was empty. When I went back to place it in my cart again the offer had suddenly ended.

  • anna/gbmom2407 April 28, 2010 at 07:49 am

we don’t cook with it, we use it instead of lotion on chapped skin. Even on our infant’s winter skin, it works great. It is also a “natural sunscreen”. Native islanders used it on their skin. We used it all last summer and not a single on of my littles burned. (do note though that it is liquid when it is warm out… )

  • Mari April 28, 2010 at 07:49 am

I finally got on, clicked on offer to sign up and right in the middle of it the offer ended. Boo. I was so excited about this. I love coconut oil.

  • Allison M. April 28, 2010 at 07:52 am

I got to the site, put the jar in my cart, filled out the shipping info and it said my cart was empty. Went back to the start up page and it said the offer is ended. BUMMER!!

  • LeAnna April 28, 2010 at 07:52 am

Just got word on that the offer has ended! Bummer!

  • Susan April 28, 2010 at 07:53 am

I got all the way through to the last step of the process — while each page lasted an eternity — and it said I had no items in my cart. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!

  • charity April 28, 2010 at 07:53 am

i tryed forever several times to get thru and now it has ended im sad was excited to try!

  • Rachel April 28, 2010 at 07:53 am

I use coconut oil all the time. I get the expeller pressed for regular cooking. This virgin oil I like to use for sunscreen on me & my babies!

  • Anna S. April 28, 2010 at 07:53 am

This was not fair. I got to the site, the offer was still valid, so I added it to my cart, When I finally got to checkout, it said that my cart was empty and the offer had ended. I just wasted about 30 minutes waiting on the pages to load.

  • Tonya April 28, 2010 at 07:54 am

:o (…….I was trying to place my order, too, and the site got swamped. Offer ended. I’ve heard good things about coconut oil and really wanted to try it. Oh wells.

  • Donna April 28, 2010 at 07:57 am

Been using it since last Dec. and get mine from Tropical Traditions. Sign up for their newsletter and you’ll get word about specials. I use the virgin coconut oil in baking sweet things, and use the expeller pressed (no taste or odor) for other cooking and frying. I recently started using it as a deodorant and yes, it has been working for me for weeks. It’s a lotion, good for chapped lips, and good for trying on almost any skin aliment.

  • Linda April 28, 2010 at 07:58 am

  • Linda April 28, 2010 at 07:59 am

  • Mommy Daisy April 28, 2010 at 08:10 am

Oh, we love our coconut oil and other coconut products from Tropical Traditions.

I recently tried pan popping popcorn with coconut oil. I love it. Doesn’t give the popcorn a coconut taste at all. And it’s really good.

  • Susan April 28, 2010 at 08:16 am

    So sad….no more left….

  • Carrie April 28, 2010 at 08:17 am

Bummer–that went fast! Oh well, I already have a large jar of coconut oil. :) I use mine for deep frying, and I’ve also used it in making homemade deodorant from a “recipe” on passionatehomemaking.com.

I’m sure you’ll have lots of fun experimenting with it! :)

  • Melissa April 28, 2010 at 08:20 am

  • April April 28, 2010 at 08:21 am

Thanks for posting! I was able to get my order in before it ended. I use this to make homemade granola bars – YUM!

  • Joy April 28, 2010 at 08:33 am

This week I picked up a 16 Oz Jar of Coconut Oil at Whole Foods Market to try out because my father & father in-law have encouraged me to use it. My father uses coconut oil for cooking and frying. My father also uses it in homemade lotions. Coconut oil is great for your skin! My sister in-law knows some women who use coconut oil in their cooking and have seen changes in their skin, it helps keep their skin soft. Since coconut oil is not a animal fat it is very healthy for you! Coconut oil when is used on your skin can help heal damaged skin and keep it looking younger.
It seems to me that coconut oil is a great product and I am excited to try the jar that I bought this week.

  • Melodee April 28, 2010 at 08:49 am

I’ve used coconut oil on my skin and hair for a couple of years now. It is wonderful! My kids like using it, too.

  • Laura@HeavenlyHomemakers April 28, 2010 at 08:58 am

I LOVE Tropical Traditions coconut oil! It is SO good for you…the best of the best!

I use it for all kinds of things. One of my favorites is this recipe for homemade HEALTHY chewy granola bars: http://heavenlyhomemakers.com/homemade-chewy-granola-bars-without-corn-syrup

They are so easy to make, so good for you, and so yummy! Ooh, and much less expensive than store bought granola bars!

  • amy April 28, 2010 at 09:17 am

I love adding coconut oil to my smoothies for myself and my children. It contains medium-chain fatty acids, which are very difficult to find in nutritional sources other than breastmilk. It’s critical for brain development, and also aids in healthy weight-management. Apparently, if you are deficient on one type of fat, your body automatically stores more of other types of fats in your diet. So, just adding this one healthy fat has helped my weight, and some other health problems. Enjoy! :) It’s also good just on toast in the morning. Yum.

  • ms13 April 28, 2010 at 09:20 am

coconut oil is the best! a great way to get it really cheap is to check ethnic markets, especially indian grocery stores – indian people use coconut oil in their hair and on their skin, it makes it soft and shiny, just like the previous commenters have said. if you pick it up at the indian grocery you can save at least 30% off from a whole foods

  • Emily April 28, 2010 at 09:46 am

I tried for an hour to order this and it kept giving me an error message when I tried to get to the confirmation page. I filled out the shipping and billing info and can only hope that it went through on their end.

  • Jessica @ Life as I See It April 28, 2010 at 10:15 am

We eat 3 green smoothies a day and use coconut oil in it as a source of healthy fat.

So sad to have missed this deal!

  • Jaime Davis April 28, 2010 at 10:24 am

I hear it works good for Excema.

  • jeni April 28, 2010 at 01:12 pm

I can’t believe I actually got something before they ran out. THAT’S never happened before!!! Thanks! Pays to visit Moneysavingmom.com first thing!

  • Kelli M April 28, 2010 at 01:41 pm

I’m so sad! I’ve been wanting to try coconut oil but just haven’t taken the plunge because of the expense. This would have been perfect.
