Though my children are well beyond the age of me trying to amuse them (the youngest is 16), one of the most inexpensive ways I found to entertain my young children in the car was to buy window clings. You can usually pick up a collection of holiday clings at stores like AC Moore and Michael’s for about $1. By the time they wore them out or got bored with them, a new holiday comes along and you can buy brand new/different ones.
