OfficeMax: Get paid to buy 20 reams of paper!

by crystal on January 11, 2010

Hero

Remember the free OfficeMax paper deal from a few months ago? Well, they've brought it back this week!

You can buy these items in-store, but if you'd rather have them delivered to your door, here's how to do that–and make a little money in the process!

::Sign up for a MaxPerks card here (unless you already have a card). Write down your MaxPerks card number.

::Sign up for an account with ShopAtHome (gives 4% back on
Office Max purchases plus a $5 bonus for new sign-ups, but you must
earn $20 in rebates before you receive a payment) or Ebates (gives 3%
back on Office Max purchases plus a $5 bonus for new sign-ups).

::Search for OfficeMax through ShopAtHome or Ebates and click through to the website.

::Add two BOISE-X-9 10-Ream Case Paper for $34.99 to your cart. (You must purchase two to get free shipping.)

::Checkout and make sure to input your MaxPerks Rewards card number.

::Your MaxPerks Bonus Rewards should arrive via an email coupon within 1-2 months of purchasing.

::Plus,
your ShopAtHome account or your EBates account will be credited with
your rebate. So you'll end up only paying a few dollars or less out of
pocket (for tax on your order) after the MaxPerks Rewards and cashback. (Or, if you are a new sign-up with ShopAtHome or Ebates, you'll
get the $5 sign-up bonus which will actually turn this into a
money-maker after the MaxPerks Reward and cashback rebate!)

Thanks, Mummy Deals!

Hi! I did the deal the last time it was offered and still haven’t received my Max Perks Bonus Rewards in the mail. Just wondering if anyone else who did it then has gotten their reward yet? Thanks!

******************
Money Saving Mom here: The rewards should have come as a coupon via email. If you didn’t receive it, I recommend calling OfficeMax and explaining the situation. They have sent the rewards to those who did this and didn’t get an email the first time.

Hope that helps!

I ordered the free paper, folders, boxes last time, Oct., and never received an email with my Bonus Rewards. I got my MaxPerks card and checked my online status and it showed up that I needed to purchase more $ to get $10 in rewards. I contacted Office Max and they said the rewards are given at the end of every quarter, so I would receive my rewards from last quarter, Oct-Dec, after Jan. 20.

I know you, MSM, did the same thing. Is that how it worked for you? Just curious. Thanks for all you do!

I didn’t get my rewards yet either for the last deal. The website says they will issue the rewards by the 20th of this month. I also had an issue where they were out of stock so it was a few weeks before my paper was delivered (I had no problem waiting). However, it took a month of calling them to get credit for that purchase. I won’t deal with them anymore.

Molly January 11, 2010 at 3:23 pm

So do you have to be a teacher or a business owner to get the max card?

Tracy January 11, 2010 at 3:23 pm

Can the rewards that we received from last time be used toward this purchase?

Teresa Schilling January 11, 2010 at 3:31 pm

I had the same problem and mine will not be ready till 1/20 either. Sale will be over by then, and I can’t afford to lay out more money till then. I will go and check online before the deal ends just to see if they send them out early, but they probably have it timed this way so you can’t roll the money:(

Cindy January 11, 2010 at 3:38 pm

Included in the special are Sharpie marker 12 pks – $6.99 – get $7 MaxPerks, and Peel & Stick Envelopes $3.99 – get $4 MaxPerks.

I’m still working on getting my Rewards back. At first it showed up that I didn’t get any, then with correspondence, they said they would credit my acct. next month (Dec.), now it is still not there, so I have a call into them again to try to get the rewards. I won’t order more unless I can get last’s times Rewards applied to my account to use.

Christy January 11, 2010 at 3:48 pm

I utilized the last deal on the paper too and when I hadn’t received my Rewards, I called them. Little did I know, you can easily gain access to them online and I used them right away! I purchased one of those long fold up tables and some desk accessories .. so you shouldn’t have to wait at all! Mine were there and I just didn’t know it. However, a coupon in the mail never did arrive. Call and they will tell you how to access them online. Hope this helps!

Jessica-MomForHim January 11, 2010 at 3:52 pm

I didn’t do this last time, so I’m confused as to how it works. The email coupon they send you, is that basically a rebate? Is it a check, or is it a coupon that must be used in-store? It says earn $35 in MaxPerks Bonus Rewards, and the limit is 2, so I assume if you bought 2 you would have $70 in OOP…so I’m confused when you say that “you’ll only end up paying a few dollars or less out of pocket”. I’m seriously missing something here, it seems!

Michelle January 11, 2010 at 3:57 pm

I contacted them about the $50 credit from the last paper deal…they said it will deposited in my account as of January 20th, 2010. So hopefully we will all be credited shortly!

Angela January 11, 2010 at 4:01 pm

I also did not receive my rewards from this past fall. I called today and had a very friendly customer service rep. explain that my order on Oct. 24th (Sat) of that week had not gone into the MaxPerks system until the following week when it shipped. Therefore, my BonusRewards were not picked up by the system as it was the next week past the original deal. She said there were originally problems with the system like this and that they have been resolved. She sent through to have my account now credited with the rewards, although I won’t receive them until the end of this quarter (Feb. 20). Hope this helps someone else! Maybe it’s best not to wait until the end of the week for this deal…just in case the system still has a few kinks?

Jenni January 11, 2010 at 4:04 pm

Buyer beware on this deal. I attempted the deal back in the fall and still have no sign of bonus rewards.

michelle January 11, 2010 at 5:05 pm

I also have not received any maxperk rewards from the last deal and they aren’t really showing up online on my account either (the purchase is there just not a bonus amount). I was kind of waiting until the 20th to see if it was something that only showed at the end of the period.
If you have a discover card you can get 5% cash back bonus if you shop office max thru the shop discover link (you have to log in to your discovercard online acct to get there).

Staples also has several ‘like free” items this week and they issue their rewards monthly, not quarterly. It’s pretty similar items.

shelly January 11, 2010 at 5:13 pm

I’m new to shopathome. how do I got about getting the $5 credit? I signed up, but wasn’t credited anything. There was a place to put the e-mail address of the person who referred you, but that was the only way I saw to earn the $5 credit.
thanks!

Courtney January 11, 2010 at 6:20 pm

I also had a problem with OfficeMax. After doing the paper deal, I actually received my rewards and then used them to order some office supplies. Got an email notice that my order had shipped but it never arrived. I contacted customer service and they said they would look into it and get back to me. The very next day, I received a check from them for $59 (the amount of my rewards) in the mail with no explanation of what had happened to my order. At least I’m not out any money, but the whole experience was too difficult!

Becca January 11, 2010 at 8:06 pm

I did the deal last time(Oct) it was offered. I used credits from my recycled ink turned in to pay and received the max perks credit of $51.00 by 12/18/09 just like MSM said in the post. In fact, I just used a big part of those perks credits to roll over for this deal again. Now I will have another $70 to roll over in a couple of months or to buy much needed ink. thanks, MSM.

Allyson January 11, 2010 at 8:09 pm

Jessica-MomForHim, I would say the same thing you said. I don’t want to pay nearly$70 OOP either, so I am a bit confused as well. Maybe I’ll wait until the next big deal comes up.

Happy Hectic Homemaker January 12, 2010 at 8:31 am

I think the confusion comes from the fact that there are two separate “release” dates for rewards. The business Maxperks release their rewards the following month. The teachers Maxperks release on the 20th of the month after each quarter (Jan 20. April 20. July 20, and Oct 20). The benefit of the teachers account being that with every $75 you spend you get an additional $10 in rewards. Not sure if business account has any additional benefit. Hope this clears things up for some people.

tina b January 12, 2010 at 8:41 am

Shelly – You have to make a purchase to get the $5 credit from ShopatHome (and Ebates). So, when you make your first purchase through them, you should see it in a few weeks :)

Stacy January 12, 2010 at 10:18 am

I am still learning about all of this as well, but one thing that may clear things up for some is that it depends on what type of maxperks account you signed up for. I signed up for one business account in my husbands name because we have a small home business and I also signed up for a teacher’s account for me since we homeschool. The business account gets their bonus rewards each month posted to the account, but the teacher account is only posted quarterly. Hope this helps someone.

AMy January 12, 2010 at 12:43 pm

I had to call customer service also and they mailed me a gift card on the last deal. Apparently it went into the system late and didn’t generate by itself until i called. I saved the email that confirmed my order so I had all the documentation that I needed. It was a quick call and worth calling in to get the money that was due to me. With the CURRENT deal, I am wondering if I should do 1 case of paper or two. I’m not sure if you get back a limit of $35.00 or if you would get $70 if you purchased two. Thanks! The free paper is fun! (I can print more coupons!) :)

Tracy January 12, 2010 at 12:58 pm

i just completed my order. My total came to $50 and some change, so free shipping. I used my $51 in rewards I received from the last deal. Paid $4 which was just tax for a case of paper, (2) 12 packs of sharpie markers and a box of envelopes. And I’ll get my $50 back in rewards.
GREAT DEAL!! Thanks Crystal!!!

Erin H January 12, 2010 at 1:03 pm

From looking at the OfficeMax website, it does look like the MaxPerks rewards are something that you have to spend in-store. Is that right? I’d rather not pay $70 OOP and have a reward that can just be used at OfficeMax; I can’t afford to do that. But, if it’s like a rebate, I’d consider doing the deal. Can someone please clarify?

Jenni January 12, 2010 at 1:24 pm

Just an additional comment for those of you who are doing this deal….there are two Perks cards available – one for business owners and one for teachers. I found out today that the bonus perks are sent out monthly for people with the business card, but only quarterly for the people with the teachers card. So, for those of us who did the October paper deal and used a teacher’s Perks card we may not get our Bonus rewards link e-mailed to us until about the 20th of this month. Hope that helps clear up confusion.

Tracy January 12, 2010 at 1:37 pm

Erin,
You can redeem your credit online. You’ll enter your MaxPerks Reward Card # listed under “My Available Rewards” along with the pin # during checkout where it says enter Gift Card #.

The Saved Quarter January 14, 2010 at 1:03 pm

This is a timely deal for me; I just got a $10 off $20 purchase today in the mail for our business account! I’ll be heading over to Office Max today! Thanks!

lavonne January 14, 2010 at 9:39 pm

is there a maxperks card for people that don’t own a company and aren’t teachers? or do you just sign up under the “teachers” card?

Priscilla January 15, 2010 at 12:38 pm

I have the teachers perks card at OfficeMax. I was told by the company mine would be available on Jan. 20th, last night the 14th I received an email that my points are available. I’m tempted to use them for the freebies this week…but we have a ton of paper already. I saw in my local Office Max ad, BOISE X-9 case of paper printed as, “pay $37.99 plus earn $35 in MaxPerks bonus rewards”. Which would really be 2.99 plus tax. The online price says, 34.99 so, I may go that route.
