Today only (Tuesday, January 5, 2010), you can go here to get a free audio download of "The Long Winter" by Laura Ingalls Wilder. We love the Little House books so I'm especially excited about this freebie!

We’re just now reading On the Banks of Plum Creek – my younger boys are studying the pioneer/western times now. I love Little House books!
I can’t wait to start reading these with my daughter. She is only 4 right now, so I am trying to figure out when is a good time to start them.
If you like this adaption by the Hallmark Playhouse, you might also like the recordings from the Mercury Theatre on the Air or the Campbell Playhouse (which are also free):

We love the Little house books, too. Farmer Boy is our favorite – my boys especially enjoyed that one.
I have read the Little House books so many times that I think I can quote them. Dd is very excited to be able to listen to this in radio drama format. She has also read the books a few times. I think “The Long Winter” is my favorite of the whole series. I love their perseverance. Thank you for putting this link up!
They had two other radio shows available. I’m cold just thinking about them.
OH YAY! We are currently reading By the Shores of Silver Lake (my girls are 6 1/2 and 5) and we thoroughly love these books… This will be a sweet treat for them!
Thanks!
We started reading these with my son when he was 4 1/2. Taking a break right now to read Charlotte’s Web, but will be back to them in a month or so. Thanks for the download info!
I read the Little House books with Nutmeg, now in kindergarten, but I stopped before the Long Winter. I thought it was too sad for her until she is older. Maybe I should download for her for the future though.
I have been wanting to get the audiobooks on Amazon for awhile. What timing God has….
This will be a good start to our collection.
I received the Little House books for Christmas when I was in the third grade and have read them numerous times in the 20+ years since. The Long Winter is a great wintertime read. It makes you feel warm (that you are in a nice snug house) and freezing all at the same time.
Thanks! This is great!
We’re currently reading The Long Winter…again! Last time I read it a couple of years ago during summer and I got all confused about what season we were heading into. So this time we purposefully are reading it in winter, and yes, feeling quite blessed for…every little thing.
