by crystal on January 11, 2010

Elisa emailed me to let me know about this great deal she found at her CVS store. If your CVS store has some of the L'Oreal products clearanced to 75% off, this can be a $7 money-maker!

Spend $10 in L'Oreal products, Get $3 ECBs (weekly deal)
Buy 5 L'Oreal Color Juice Lip Gloss at $2.12 each (price-scan to see if yours are ringing up at 75% off)
Use 5 $3/1 L'Oreal make up coupons from the 1/3 RedPlum insert
Free plus $4.40 overage (so you'll need to add at least $4.40 in extra products to use up the overage!)
Plus, you'll get a $3 ECB!

Thanks, Elisa!

Let us know if you find this or a similar deal at your CVS store. Usually when makeup is clearanced at one store, it is clearanced at a number of stores.

I picked up a clearance L’Oreal makeup item along with a full priced one yesterday & it didn’t count towards the $10 receive $3ECB’s deal for some reason. I am planning on stopping back by the store this week to clarify it with the manager, as I missed it upon checkout yesterday.

Anyone else have this same problem?
:-)

Money Saving Mom here: Eleanor, I’m pretty sure that if they have to key in the clearance price, it won’t count. But if it automatically rings up at the clearance price, it should count.

If anyone else knows better and can chime in, let us know. I haven’t shopped at CVS in over a year since we moved to a town where they don’t exist, but that’s how it used to be.

Just wanted to pass on – I found a bunch of Christmas stuff 90% off at my CVS yesterday. Included were a bunch of Chia products including the Chia herb garden set for $1.99. We’ll be using ours for a homeschool science project! I also found Trivial Pursuit 25th Anniversary edition for $1.49 and a neat foil art set for $1.49. It’s a great time to stock up for birthday gifts.

From what I can see the only $3 L’Oreal make up coupon is for true match or any L’Oreal makeup, powder, blush or concealer. Does that include lip gloss? I don’t want to order coupons just to find out it doesn’t.

tiffany January 11, 2010 at 2:31 pm

I tried this at my store when I saw the 75% off stickers. But although I bought $12 worth I didn’t get an ECB. When I asked I was told that the computers have caught clearance items and are not letting them count into ECB purchases.

Maybe others will have better luck!

Luciane January 11, 2010 at 2:36 pm

I have the same concern as Molly: the $3 coupon does not seem to be for lip gloss. There was a $1 off in the same insert and that one does list any lip product. Still a pretty good deal if you need lip gloss.

zombiemommy January 11, 2010 at 2:38 pm

yeah. i didn’t know they started the 90% i cleaned up last year!

Emily January 11, 2010 at 2:46 pm

There are printable coupons on Lorel’s web site for $3/2 any Loreal Paris products and $1/1 any products. Hope this helps.

Helen January 11, 2010 at 2:46 pm

CVS doesn’t give coupon overage. If you buy 5 lip gloss, you will most likely only be able to use 3 coupons ($9) or if you use 4, the last one will beep and some cashiers will deny it or others will adjust it to $1.60 (your remaining total balance of qualifying products).

******************
Money Saving Mom here: It depends upon the individual store, but many do give overage–as they will be reimbursed the full value of the coupon.

Eleanor January 11, 2010 at 2:52 pm

The cashier didn’t have to manually key the discount price. I did get it free since I had a $3/1 coupon but it just didn’t count towards the sale so I didn’t get the $3ECB’s to make the deal even sweeter! lol!

I’ll check back in later this week with my receipt & i’ll let you know what I find out :-)
Thanks!

When I see “makeup” I think of lip products too, but I’m not sure how that is meant to be used…for just facial “skin” products, or for lips as well…

kara January 11, 2010 at 4:24 pm

the $3 loreal coupon worked for me today ~ i guess lip gloss is considered make-up. mine were priced at $1.99 (i bought 6 so that it would go over $10) + they let me use the coupons but no overage or ecb’s ~ but they were free! the cashier said ecb’s won’t print for clearance items – oh, well!

Julie January 11, 2010 at 4:34 pm

During my CVS trip today, I noticed signs specifying spend $10 on Loreal lip/Loreal eye makeup, get $3 ECB. So lip and eye makeup are definitely included. However, I spent over $10 on 75% off clearance items (using a coupon on a couple and no coupon on others), and I did NOT get the $3 ECB since they are clearance items. :( But I am very happy to have found some great lip and eye products for very little! :)

Julie January 11, 2010 at 4:51 pm

Oh, and by the way, the cashier didn’t have to key in the prices. They scanned correctly on their own!

Elisa January 11, 2010 at 4:54 pm

The first time I did it, they took the full $3 off. I just got one to try it out. Then I went to another CVS and got $10 worth and the clerk took off $3 — I know her and she is always really nice to me. But no ECB ( I thought it was because it was Saturday and their computers weren’t all the way updated yet — maybe it’s because clearance doesn’t count . . .). She printed them for me anyway. Then I realized I had one more coupon left, so I went to the first CVS and the manager that knows I like to do the deals checked me out (he’s not always so nice) and adjusted the price of the coupon down to the cost of the lip gloss. Oh well, still worked out pretty well — I guess it just depends on who is checking you out :)

Kelly Heath January 11, 2010 at 5:37 pm

our cvs does not let you use coupons on clearance items? is this company policy?

Ellen Drake January 11, 2010 at 6:23 pm

My CVS has told me in the past that if an item is on clearance, then it is ineligible to earn ECB’s. You might want to check with a manager before trying this deal scenerio. But it’s still a great deal even without them. The coupons make it worth it ;)

Jan January 11, 2010 at 6:30 pm

I bought $10 of the clearance items and did not get the extra bucks. My clerk who is very coupon friendly said it says in the add for prices starting at $4.99.

Katie January 11, 2010 at 6:39 pm

My CVS had some of the juice lip products marked as 75% off, but not all of them. I did get one, and it rang up as 2 something.

Josie January 11, 2010 at 6:59 pm

I’ve always been able to use coupons on clearance items at my CVS! :)

Tracy January 11, 2010 at 8:22 pm

I didn’t have the insert coupons, but I printed of the $3/2 any Loreal Paris product and the $1/1 any Loreal Paris product from their website. So I paid $3.60 for 5 lipglosses. No ECB for me either, and not free, but my girls will be very excited to get these on Valentine’s Day!

Lisa January 11, 2010 at 8:46 pm

You can use coupons on clearance items. It’s just that clearance items are not included in the ECB (or on the B1G1 either)

Jenni January 11, 2010 at 9:17 pm

Our CVS does give overages and lets you use any coupons and deals around. I love our CVS!

Kari January 11, 2010 at 10:44 pm

The prices automatically ring in correctly (75% off) at my cvs. If you’re in doubt take them over to the scanner to find out what they will ring in as. I’ve gotten overage several times as one cvs and then just did a deal two nights ago and the cashier adjusted my coupon to the item price. I still go the item for free but was “counting” on the overage to pay for something else, I guess it all depends on the cashier, the store, and the moon cycles :)

theresa January 12, 2010 at 10:57 am

One time when my store just change from longs to cvs the mangers told my mom if she wanted to use a coupon on a clearance item she had to pay full price on the item I called there 800 # they said that all there cvs take coupons on clearance item and they called the store to tell manager to take coupons for clearance item they said if I had a problem at the store if they said no to call back from the store.

Lori January 12, 2010 at 12:03 pm

I didn’t try the $3 coupon because it said makeup, so I used the $1 off lip product. The coupons went through fine. However one of the lip glosses was tagged as 75% but didn’t ring up correctly and I didn’t receive ECB. I did a complete return. :( maybe next time.

Virginia Roselli January 12, 2010 at 12:20 pm

They did not accept my $3.00 coupon for the lip gloss. I was advised that it was for make-up, blush or powder.

Christy McCullough January 12, 2010 at 12:33 pm

The prices were 75% off, but the computer adjusted the coupon value so no overage. While I would have liked to use that to pay for something else (like the TOO cute christmas paper for 29cents), it always gets me because I know CVS will get the entire price from the manufacturer. To me this is them doing coupon fraud. But free is also great, thanks for letting us know.

BTW, I didn’t get ECB but asked the cashier and he put my card back in and it then printed. Even if they say it won’t have them try it, all five of my items were clearance.

Natalie January 12, 2010 at 2:18 pm

My cashier took three $3 coupons for 5 items, making them very cheap. The ECB didn’t print, and she said it wouldn’t work on clearance items. I went back and got more free lipstick from Revlon clearance, using their $2 coupon (exp 01/24). I also cleaned up their 90% off Christmas section! thanks for the heads up on these deals.

Stephanie January 12, 2010 at 2:25 pm

I purchased the 75% off items, used the printable coupons from coupons.com , spent more than $10 before coupons and also did not get the ECB’s. The computer had the discounts in already. When I asked the cashier if I had purchased what I needed to for the L’Oreal deal, she checked the ad and said I had. Then she very nicely went ahead and printed the ECB manually for me. No questions. I thanked her profusely. Really have to love nice cashiers. I left the store spending .80 (I had other Christmas clearance items and some EC’s that I went in with) and earned $4 EC’s.

Taran January 12, 2010 at 3:05 pm

I bought a few different clearanced L’Oreal products to get to the $10 mark and I used (4) $1 coupons for eye shadow and lip gloss and (1) $3 coupon for foundation. They all scanned without a problem. My ECB’s did not print either but I asked the cashier about it and she manually printed them for me.

Del January 12, 2010 at 3:49 pm

I did this “deal” today and found out (after the fact) clearanced L’oreal items do not count towards the “Spend $10, Get $3″ deal. I only had 4 coupons (which I used) but had to buy 5 to get over the $10 only to find out it didn’t work and clearanced items cannot be returned. Since I normally pay less than $1 for something like this it was not that good of a deal. Check w/ your store before you do the transaction!

Adrienne January 12, 2010 at 7:41 pm

Just went to CVS and used (5) $3 off the lip glosses. Got the overage from the $2.12 price, but no ECB printed.

Ann PS January 12, 2010 at 11:46 pm

Tonight, the clearance make-up at my CVS was 90% off! They were just starting to put up signs. So I got 4 full-size Loreal lipsticks for $0.89 each and then used just one $3 coupon to get them all for under $0.60 plus tax!!! The cashier I ended up with probably would have accepted additional coupons if I had filler items to absorb the overage, but I didn’t want to push my luck. As it was, I felt like I was stealing!! LOL. Since 4 lipsticks is a lot, I read up on preserving them and it sounded like putting them in a dark bag and storing in the fridge would work, so I did this. I’m all set for a year! Thanks for the heads-up!! :)
