Borders-books

Borders recently wrote and asked me if they could give me a $100 gift card to use in-store in their new toys and games section. When they said they had a whole selection of Melissa & Doug products to choose from, there was no hesitation, I jumped on the opportunity.

My husband and I had fun Christmas shopping together for the girls the other night using our gift card. I rarely shop at retail stores so I was expecting the prices to be very high and wondering how far $100 would really go. Well, in all honesty, I was pretty impressed.

They had the Melissa & Doug products on sale for Buy One, Get One 50% off and the rest of the toys and games were Buy Two, Get One Free. So we ended up getting three nice games plus four Melissa & Doug products for just under $100. We got one of the games free since we bought three and we got two of the Melissa & Doug products half-priced since we bought four. Plus, I signed up in-store for a Borders Rewards card (it's free!) and immediately got a coupon for $5 off our next order–which we also used.

All in all, we saved around $40 with their current specials, so I was especially happy about that! The register did have some issues giving me the free game and they had to re-ring the order on that and end up manually keying it in to get it to work, but the staff was very helpful and patient to make sure my order rang up correctly.

I subscribe to your feed. My daughter, who’s a bookworm, wants book store cards for Christmas. But she’d have to share a $100 one with her sister and me!!

The spa science kit looks like fun! I love their selection of books also.

Kristi November 27, 2009 at 10:02 am

I would buy the Rush Hour Jr and Railroad Rush hour games. We have lost our home and may be traveling until we find a place to live. I am a single mom and home educate. I have heard these games develop good critical thinking skills; are fun, compact and easy to use in car. I would also get the Science Manicure kit for my girls (I have six!) and the Science meteor kit for my boys. What a great way to encourage femininity and let the boys pursue their interests of flying things while learning science at the same time!

I subscribed to your feed, but not sure I’m doing this right. I’m not very computer literate! Anyway, if I’m in the right place, I would buy the Rush Hour Jr and Railroad Rush Hour games for my children as we may be traveling soon. Also the Science manicure kit for my six girls, and meteor rocket kit for my boys…the first airplane kit for my 5yo son.

If I win, I would love to purchase some educational toys for my 3 year autistic nephew. We as a family are all working with his teachers to find fun ways to help him learn. He’s such a special little boy and deserves all that we can give him to help him be what he can be despite his situation.
