24-Hour Giveaway: Clorox Toilet Wand (3 winners)

Clorox asked me if I'd be willing to do a review and a giveaway of their new Toilet Wand. As you all know, I'm always up for trying something new–especially if it's free!–so I said I'd be glad to do it.

Honestly? I was under-impressed. The Toilet Wand retails for $9.98 and comes with a base, wand, and six disposable cleaning heads. I thought perhaps each cleaning head would last for more than one cleaning. Surely, I thought.

But nope, each refill is meant for one cleaning. You know me, I tried to stretch it out to clean both toilets in our home. I found that it was possible, but there wasn't much cleaning solution left in the cleaning head by the time I got to the second toilet.

I usually clean toilets the old-fashioned way–with a rag and some Basic H. It takes a bit more effort, but it probably costs me $0.002 per cleaning as opposed to the $0.50 to $1 (depending upon the sale and coupon you might use!) to use the Clorox Toilet Wand. So my blunt opinion of the Clorox Toilet Wand is that they are very over-priced.

In addition, the Clorox Toilet Wand product is not environmentally-friendly. Unlike my usual method of using Basic H concentrate in a refillable bottle and a rag that I wash, the Toilet Wand refills are thrown out after each use.

However, I didn't hate the product. In fact, I thought the Clorox Toilet Wand cleaned very well and was super easy to use. I'd even go so far as to recommend it if you had some very stubborn stains on your toilet or if you are a germ-a-phobic and don't want to touch your toilet in order to clean it. The Clorox Toilet Wand is guaranteed to kill 99.9% of germs so if you're willing to spend more money to save time and effort to ensure your toilet is super clean, this might be the way for you to go.

I'm guessing that there will be some great deals out on this product in the next few months so if you're able to get it for free or almost-free, definitely consider trying it out. There's a $5/1 coupon here which would help to further sweeten any deals you're able to find.

But then I’m one of those people who aren’t willing to touch my toilet to clean it (I kind of cringed when you said you used a rag) and I always hated the regular bristle brushes because it seemed like they flung up tiny droplets of water – ew!!
I bought one back before they started including the base and I think that’s a great added feature. When we moved we lost our wand and my husband bought the Scrubbing Bubbles brand, which I don’t think works nearly as well.
I finally broke down and bought a new Clorox one last week when the $5 coupon came out and was pleasantly surprised that it rang up for $8.99 (instead of the $10.99 shelf price) at Walgreen’s so you might try checking the price there if you don’t win and you really want one.

I like that I can dispose of the germs. However, they can be pricey. To stretch mine out a bit farther, I’ll use the solution on the pad in the first toilet and then use some toilet cleaning liquid in the second toilet and use the same pad to clean it. So, I’d love to win the kit…save me a little money .
I did not grow up cleaning the toilet with a rag, so I’ve never done it…but I’ll have to give it a try sometime.

416 JooYoung October 16, 2009 at 3:45 pm: Yes, you’re right. I’ve tried it in some else’s house for some else’s toilets. It was very convenient and effective, meaning it worked very well, but not efficient, meaning I couldn’t use it for more than one toilet.
But I wouldn’t mind to have a set for me to try on my toilets, specially since my kids (actually the boys) are messing around the toilets all the time. It would help me a lot.

I am one of those that doesn’t like to touch the toilet.
I use one toilet wand head for all 4 of my toilets. I do use some toilet cleaner in the last 2 toilets since there isn’t enough in one head for 4 toilets. The regular toilet bowl cleaners just gross me out.
And I haven’t ever considered using a washable rag and cleaner. I may have to give it some thought (I would have to have gloves though- LOL)

I actually do use 1 pad for all three bathrooms, although the solution does run out after the first toilet. What I do is squirt a little bit of soft scrub on it for the 2nd and 3rd toilet.
