Safeway (and affiliates): Free Nature Valley Granola Bars and Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks

by crystal on August 15, 2009

Through September 6, 2009, there are two great catalina deals running at all Safeway affiliates.

Buy 3 Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks or Nature Valley Granola Bars, Get $1.50 catalina
Buy 4 Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks or Nature Valley Granola Bars, Get $2.50 catalina
Buy 5 Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks or Nature Valley Granola Bars, Get $3.50 catalina

In the ad, there are in-ad store coupons which make the Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks 4 for $4 (with a $20 purchase) or the Nature Valley Granola Bars are 4 for $6 (with a $20 purchase).

Here's how to combine these deals with coupons to score free Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks and Nature Valley Granola Bars:

Buy 4 Nature Valley Granola bars

Purchase enough other groceries to get your total to $20 before coupons
Use the in-ad coupon to make the fruit snacks $1 each
Use the in-ad coupon to make the granola bars $1.50 each
Use 4 $0.40/1 fruit snack coupons here, here, here, and here (there are also $0.50/2 coupons in the 8/9 SmartSource insert)
Use 4 $0.40/1 granola bar coupons here, here, here, and here
Spend $4.60 plus tax out pocket (plus however much your additional groceries cost
Get $5 in catalinas back to use on your next purchase
Free after doubled coupons, in-ad store coupons, and catalinas

Plus, you can roll this deal using the catalina earned on one transaction to purchase the same transaction again.

You can sweeten the deal even further by loading the e-coupons and rolling the catalinas! It’s an awesome deal!

I don’t think I follow your math.

4 boxes of fruit snacks at $1 each less $0.40/1 coupon is $0.60 per box for a total of $2.40.

4 boxes of granola bars at $1.50 each less $0.40/1 coupon is $1.10 per box for a total of $4.40

Your total would be $6.80

Still a great deal! But I am wondering if I am missing something? Thank you!

Money Saving Mom here: The coupons should double, right? I think I failed to write that in the post. We don’t have a Safeway here, so can someone remind me whether or not they double coupons?

Safeways in my area (Northern CA) don’t double coupons, but in some other areas they do. If you do the Cellfire and Shortcuts e-coupons though, this is a great deal even without doubles.

When did this Catalina promotion start? I bought 4 BC fruit snacks just a few days ago & did not get a catalina. Can you go back to customer service & ask for it?

Just FYI – Genuardi’s (the Philadelphia-area Safeway affiliate) changed their coupon policy recently and they no longer allow the stacking of manufacturers coupons with store coupons. They also will only double 1 like-coupon per order.

details here: http://www.momsneedtoknow.com/2009/06/04/genuardis-major-change-to-their-coupon-policy/

Safeway stores in the Portland/Vancouver area offer a weekly ad with a coupon doubler that allows you to double up to 4 coupons per transaction, for up to $ .50 each (maximum of $2 off your total).

I just did this deal, but the catalinas didn’t print. They wrote on my receipt that I will get two $2.50 off on my next visit, but I’m wondering how that will actually work when I give it to the cashier.

They also forgot to take off the instore coupon for the granola bars…I spent a long time at customer service this trip. :)

Is there a website or someplace I can go to for the catalina deals so I can see exactly which products qualify and what deals are available? The customer service people usually aren’t as accomodating as they were today, and if they had pressed me for the exact details of the promo, I wouldn’t have known.

Thanks for all your work on this site! I have cut our grocery bill down to about $60 per week from $100 per week!

My Cats didn’t print for this deal. I need to call the Catalina as the machine was not even on when I went through and customer service was closed. Can anyone tell me the phone number for the catalina company? I used to have it but now I can’t find it.
Thanks

I did the deal today and the catalina did not print.

I did this deal last night, not knowing about the catalinas. That was a pleasant surprise! I actually got 2 cats–one for the NV bars and one for the fruit snacks.

For the NV bars I purchased:
1 Nut Clusters
1 Dark Chocolate
2 Any flavor

I used $1/1 Nut Clusters from 8/9 SS
$1/1 Nut Clusters from Cellfire
$0.40/1 Nut Clusters from Shortcuts
$0.50/1 Dark Chocolate from 8/9 SS (doubled to $1)
$0.70/2 Any flavor from 8/9 SS (doubled to $1)
$0.40/1 and flavor from Cellfire

Paid $1.20 oop, recd $1.50 cat (the Nut Clusters are not included in the cat deal, but they are included in the 4 for $6)

I also paid $1.30 for 4 fruit snacks and got a $2.50 cat.
All in all it was a $1.50 money maker!

I did this tonight at Randall’s and didn’t get a Catalina. When I asked at customer service they didn’t know anything about it. Still a pretty good deal without the Catalina.

Tom Thumb (Safeway affiliate in the Dallas, Texas area) will only double one mfr coupon. They let you use as many as you like, but only the first one doubles.

13 Kim August 15, 2009 at 10:42 pm

There are also cellfire coupons for the fruit snacks and granola bars.

14 christi.jensen@mac.com August 16, 2009 at 3:35 pm

I purchased 4 boxes of nature valley bars and 4 boxes of fruit snacks today (with coupons) and got 2-$2.50 Catalinas back. I’m in WA state…we don’t have doublers though.

This is also happening at the Harris Teeters, along side the buy 15 GM items and get an additional $5 off. When you buy 5 of the granola and 5 of the Fruit snacks, you receive an additional $7….it’s awesome!!
