Old Navy: No $1 t-shirt sale?

by crystal on July 2, 2009

I'm hearing numerous reports that Old Navy stores have pulled the plug on doing the $1 flag t-shirt sale tomorrow (Friday, July 3, 2009). If you were considering making a special trip to purchase these, please call ahead of time to see if your store is still running this sale.

My apologies on posting faulty information. From what I'm hearing, it was a last-minute decision not to run this sale.

Really? Oh no! Thanks for the heads up- I’ll definitely call before making a special trip…

Carrie July 2, 2009 at 12:16 pm

What a bummer, I just checked several locations in Virginia and they said they were only having the sale in Canada.

songbirdtiff July 2, 2009 at 12:34 pm

Wow, what is up with Old Navy?! They are making some bad decisions.

momtaylor July 2, 2009 at 12:53 pm

Well boo on them.

cjs July 2, 2009 at 1:09 pm

I checked here in No. Calif., and I am getting the same info….sale was cancelled in the USA (but not in Canada)…..hmmmm.

heather July 2, 2009 at 1:13 pm

Does anyone know if they are even doing their Hunting For Coupons anymore?

Melissa July 2, 2009 at 1:20 pm

Flag shirts on sale in Canada? Are they Canadian flag shirts? Seems like 4th of July flag shirts would be better for a sale in the US…

Rachelle July 2, 2009 at 1:21 pm

Just called our store in Ct. It’s a no go ! Bummer, my daughter really need some shirts and that was a great price. Oh well maybe we’ll score something at the goodwill.
Blessings-
Rachelle

Okay, I had to laugh at Carrie’s comment. :-) They’re having a sale on US flag t-shirts in Canada? I suppose Old Navy couldn’t get anyone to buy Old Glory t-shirts over there.

Kristi July 2, 2009 at 1:38 pm

They recently filed bankruptcy, but are keeping it hush hush. I guess they are trying to only run sales where they feel they will get the most income from them.

Melaina July 2, 2009 at 1:49 pm

At my store in WV, they said they pulled the sale because they didn’t get their shipment in. Maybe they thought they over ordered and were only planning sale if they had a surplus amount? Maybe there was such a rush on “presale” shirts that they pulled the sale because they have sold so many……..?

Tammy July 2, 2009 at 1:52 pm

Interesting…I just called two local stores, one said they weren’t, the other told me they were. I’ll have to call tomorrow to double check before I run all the way out there!

Christi D. July 2, 2009 at 2:08 pm

I called my local Old Navy and they said they ARE having the sale tomorrow. I like in Oklahoma. They said they have limited stock so though so it’s first come, first serve.

Kim July 2, 2009 at 2:34 pm

I called my local Middle TN store, and the store manager knew nothing about this sale.

I also called corporate customer service. She checked with a marketing brand manager, and they decided to pull the sale at the last minute. It was a go, but now it is not. She said it was definitely a company-wide decision to stop the sale, so please call your store first thing in the morning to make certain.

Didn’t they do this with the $1.00 flip flop deal, too, recently?

Jessie July 2, 2009 at 2:43 pm

I just called in Raleigh and they said that Canada stores get the same things American stores get…no exception. They are running the sale in Canada to get rid of them quickly…according to her they have NO problem selling them in the states so a sale like that is unlikely!…so said the girl on the phone!

Shari July 2, 2009 at 2:58 pm

I just called my local store in VA and they couldn’t say “for sure” if they were having the sale or not. The operator had to put me on hold and ask her manager. I live an hour away and was planning on going to town for other things too so I’ll stop by and see….

BTW, a sales associate at ANOTHER Old Navy store told me about the sale three days ago. I was going to buy my toddler a t-shirt but put it back after she told me what was supposed to happen on Friday.

Melissa July 2, 2009 at 3:08 pm

I had received a coupon in the mail for a free flag t-shirt and picked mine up yesterday. I am a card holder which is possibly why I received the coupon. When I picked up my shirt yesterday they were offering 25% off for cardholders and the summer clothes were 50% off. The cashier also told me to watch for a sale later this month, spend $50 and get $30 OYNO.

Jessica July 2, 2009 at 3:21 pm

A Southern Indiana store told me that the shirts will be 50% off ($2.50). We’ll see!

Amber July 2, 2009 at 3:37 pm

I have some Old Navy flag T-shirts which were purchased in Canada in 2004. They are NOT USA flags though. July 1st is Canada Day and the t-shirts have CANADIAN flags on them! :)

Jessica July 2, 2009 at 4:16 pm

I just called our store here in Algonquin, IL and they said they will be honoring the sale tomorrow. I will definitely be calling tomorrow morning again to confirm it.

Sharon July 2, 2009 at 4:31 pm

At your local WalMart you should be able to buy nice “Faded Glory 2009″ flag tees for $3! We outfitted our whole family with $3 ($2 for kids) t-shirts for Independence Day! I’m not sure if this is every WalMart but we’ve been all across the country in the last month and many Walmarts are selling them. Hope this helps!

Allie July 2, 2009 at 4:43 pm

I live in Connecticut and it’s a no go here to!!! This was one sale I was looking forward to!! Bummer!

Jackie July 2, 2009 at 4:47 pm

I just spoke with a corporate manager who happened to be at the Old Navy here in Las Vegas and he said yes, it isn’t going to be advertised until later, but it’s true. Every store NATIONWIDE!!!! I will be lined up, that is for sure!!!

Becki Huml July 2, 2009 at 6:41 pm

I live in Illinois and our store confirmed that they would also be having the sale tomorrow.

rebecca July 2, 2009 at 6:50 pm

I live in Ohio and was just in my store today. After waiting in line for 40 minutes for the dollar flip flops, I decided it was worth paying $2.50 per shirt instead. Anyway, my store said they definitely pulled the plug in this area and that they will not be having the sale :(

Kelly R July 2, 2009 at 8:40 pm

I went into one store here in MI and they had a sign up for it and LOTS of shirts (too bad it’s a 45 min. drive for me). Then I stopped in my local store and they knew nothing about it. When I got home I called the corporate number and they said it was Canada only. Oh well.

jenni williams July 3, 2009 at 7:20 am

I think they only ordered a very limited stock on the flag tees this year. The $1 sale was to sell of the rest. Perhaps they are running low already and that is why they pulled the plug.

Jerri July 3, 2009 at 8:33 am

Yes, I call the Old Navy store from my area and they don’t have the deal. Boomer.

Jennifer July 3, 2009 at 9:41 am

Memphis area stores are not participating either. I don’t know if I want to continue doing business with a store that does not honor their advertised deals. I am at least glad I called before going.

Karri Armstrong July 3, 2009 at 10:23 am

Plano, TX: I didn’t check my MSM website before I ran up to my Old Navy this morning! They also said the deal was only in Canada.

I’m disappointed, but wanted to let all of you that are saying you won’t go to ON again that they probably pulled this deal because they ran out of t-shirts! They had maybe 20-25 flag shirts left this morn. It could be that their manufacturer didn’t come through for them & they didn’t have enough shirts to run the promo.

Don’t give up on ON…my kids & I are still loving our $1 flip-flops, courtesy of their last promo!

Christy July 3, 2009 at 10:30 am

I live in Lynchburg, VA and got 5 flag shirts for 1.oo each. There wasn’t much selection in the adult colors, but I guess the sale is on here.

theresa July 3, 2009 at 10:33 am

Just got back from Old Navy and the store manager informed me that the sale was cancelled except for Canada.

suzie q July 3, 2009 at 10:37 am

michelle is funny- bankrupt, eh? Sure…

ADA rACHAL July 3, 2009 at 10:51 am

Made the trip to town and got told no sale only on computer the prices are so hi will go to wal-mart instead

Elizabeth Ours July 3, 2009 at 11:13 am

Just got home from my Old Navy store in SW Georgia — the manager didn’t know what I was talking about. Said she has never heard about such a sale. So, I came home and searched the Old Navy website — no mention of such a promotion. then, I looked for this post — thinking I must have dreamed it or made the whole thing up!! I guess I should have checked here first — before making the trip to Old Navy. Fortunately, it wasn’t really out of my way, since I had to drop my son off at work. I’m really disappointed though.

Rachel R. July 3, 2009 at 11:19 am

I went in. Ours were not on sale, exactly. I was told that the “event” had been cancelled. BUT I was also told that if I let the cashier know I’d seen them advertised as $1 today, they would honor that price, as they had no intent to advertise falsely. I got mine for $1 each. :) (I’m in VA, btw.)

Mike garies July 3, 2009 at 11:21 am

Not very American.
False advertising?

bushco July 3, 2009 at 12:29 pm

Canadians love those USA t-shirts

carl ragel July 3, 2009 at 12:38 pm

They’re $5 – regular price – here in Tucson, AZ at Foothills mall. No sale price. They called it an internet rumor.

cheryl July 3, 2009 at 1:50 pm

Went first thing this morning to a store in Texas. The first employee I spoke with said that the $1 price was only for online purchases and that they had very few shirts left. She told me to check with the manager about getting the $1 sale price. When I went to check-out, there was only 1 shirt left and they happily sold it to me for $1! Crazy situation!

Allison July 3, 2009 at 2:16 pm

I called my local Old Navy in MI this morning and was told that the sale is on for the $1 flag t-shirts. I arrived about 10 minutes later and was told that would honor the price since I had called, but that the company decided last mintue to pull the deal. I’m sure glad I called ahead!

Eric P. July 3, 2009 at 2:56 pm

I went to my Old Navy store in Enfield, CT. There was a sign stating the t-shirts were $5. I was told by the store manager that they were’nt running that sale but she would allow me to buy 5 of the regular (not ribbed/special cut) American Flag t-shirts for the $1 each internet special price. So, I bought 5 for $5.

Courtney Olmsted July 3, 2009 at 3:03 pm

Ours in St Louis was doing the promotion, but the sales clerk I talked to said they only started the morning with about 10 shirts. Needless to say, they were out by the time we got there!

Marcie July 3, 2009 at 9:35 pm

At our store in Boise Idaho they were selling the shirts at $5.00 unless you said something. They then gave the sale price when you mentioned it. All our store had was mens. Some of the items I was wanting that was on sale this week they didn’t have. Also they had “sale items” all over the store but nothing was marked down.
