After weaning my son a couple months ago, I flew through my stash of $5 off coupons and free samples alot quicker than i had intended.. We use enfamil and I normally shop at Target, Wal mart, kroger, and walgreens. I occaisonally shop at Sams and noticed that their price on Enfamil beats walmart any day. The cans are within $1 of the same price but the sams can is much larger, I dont have the can with me to give the specifics, but just thought i would throw that out there for those formula feeding with Enfamil.

Off subject, but I gotta wonder why is it there is always tons of freebies for formula feeding but never goodies for breastfeeding? You don’t get breastmilk storage samples from Medela or Lanishol or coupons for nipple cream, but you can get a free can every month of formula. I did both with my first and that just always irked me.

Money Saving Mom here: I actually have gotten Lansinoh samples, and breast pad samples, as well as Mother’s Milk tea samples before. They aren’t as plentiful, but they are out there!

Having nothing to do with whether or not it’s appropriate to call that kit “Breastfeeding Support,” I for one REALLY appreciate it.

I had a breast surgery 5 years before my first child was born that was completely necessary, but took away my ability to breastfeed. Formula does get pretty pricey, and one of the ways I’ve found to cut costs with my second child are all of the free samples I’ve been able to get.

I used to think it was silly they called it a “Breastfeeding Support Kit”, and I didn’t use it.

Now that my baby is 9 months and I’m sick of nursing, I wish I had tried supplementing months ago. She will NOT take formula (she’d rather go hungry), so I need to nurse or pump more than I really want to. I just keep telling myself it’s only a few more months before I can start giving cow’s milk, which will be the next step towards weaning.

Don’t mean to “get you started”, but it is occasionally possible for a little formula to SUPPORT breastfeeding. Heresy, I know!

In fact, I have a 4 1/2 week old now (my fourth child), and formula has done just that. In brief, delivery complication, feeding and weight gain issues, too sleepy, super stress, etc. Did a lot of pumping, but didn’t seem to help. Formula supplementing did. Now he is finally doing better, and so now I am cutting back on the formula so that I can exclusively breastfeed, (as I did with my other kids). I had to do this with my 3rd child also. Although I will admit that during the height of the stress it was very tempting to just go straight formula and forget breastfeeding altogether – and that’s why some people get so anti-formula, I believe. They’re afraid that tired, exhausted mothers will succumb to temptation!

When my husband and I were taking childbirth classes at our local hospital they gave these away to the moms who were planning to breastfeed. We couldn’t believe the name either. My husband said “If you want breastfeeding support, get a nursing bra!”

I also have a newborn and am nursing. Does anyone know of any coupons for milk storage bags or nursing pads? They add up fast.
