The only bad thing about Schwan’s is that their drivers work on commission. After they have sold you something once, they keep coming back and some of them get a little pushy when it comes to buying stuff. Not much beats their ice cream though, but it’s expensive!

*******************
Money Saving Mom here: So they’ll keep showing up at my door unannounced trying to sell me things? I totally did not know that. Maybe I’m not so interested and maybe this is not such a great deal. Can anyone out there who has used this service tell me more about it and their experiences with it?

Lisa June 18, 2009 at 11:18 am

They come every other week on a set day. If you don’t want them to come back, tell them so.

Liz June 18, 2009 at 11:20 am

We used to use them but then they are pretty pricey and our budget just can’t afford them any more :( We had a great delivery guy..he was very nice and while he did stop by once or twice after we stopped ordering, he never tried to push us into buying anything. But I suppose it depends on who you get and how “motivated” they are to sell.

Michelle June 18, 2009 at 11:21 am

They seem to have a schedule and they tell you when they’ll be back – usually they “try” to come by my house every 2 weeks. I’ve had Schwan’s drivers knocking on my door at 10 pm before. We have a different driver now who is much more courteous, but I always feel bad turning him away without buying anything. There products are processed and expensive and the only reason I even tolerate him coming around is because my husband LOVES the ice cream. The gallons they sell cost around $9.99. And I buy them every once and a while and try to be gone or not answer the door when I don’t want anything. How terrible is that? I’ve noticed lately that he doesn’t come hardly at all. Probably because I buy so little. Just beware with Schwans! ;-)

Lisa June 18, 2009 at 11:28 am

I guess I should of read this first! I just placed my order for 2 lbs of ground beef. I will make if very clear the first time that I am not interested. Hopefully I can put my mean hat on and make them get the point!

Ronda June 18, 2009 at 11:32 am

We have purchased from the before. There ice cream is wonderful! Our experience with the driver wasn’t bad. Yes he did stop by when he was in the area, but we didn’t feel he was pushy at all. We didn’t order that often either. Sometimes he even gave us free samples to try. I just placed my order. Thanks for the info.

shristi June 18, 2009 at 11:32 am

I just ordered mine online and it was quick and easy! It looks like some of the cheaper items are out of stock, but I found a 6 pack of ice cream cones and ended up paying 99 cents at checkout! Can’t beat that! =)

Kacy June 18, 2009 at 11:37 am

My parents, particularly my dad, have used Schwan’s for YEARS and yes, they do come by, but I’ve never heard of them stopping by unannounced (although I could be wrong). I always remember seeing a little post-it type note on my parent’s fridge that had the date/time for the next visit. Although, they order from the truck every week too! It truly is delicious food & great quality.

Love the cookie ice cream sandwiches…and the wild berry frozen yogurt…and the frozen pizzas (the crust is super yummy!).

Happy shopping! Thanks for the $5 code!

Megan June 18, 2009 at 11:38 am

I love Schwan’s and my driver is great. Not pushy at all. Their ice cream is really good and so are their mini cinnamon rolls.

Kelly June 18, 2009 at 11:40 am

I use Shwan’s for a lot of my convenience food items since my husband and I both work. When nothing is ready for dinner, we always have something from Schwan’s! They have a lot of frozen pizzas starting at 4.99. They even offer an additional discount if you buy 3 pizzas! Their half gallons of ice creams also start around 5.49!

Jessica June 18, 2009 at 11:46 am

I really enjoyed the service in the past and have had pushy and friendly delivery guys. I plan on telling him/her I shop by price and if hes got another code, or a great sale then I am interested, but otherwise I’ll call him/her (if he/she happens to be the pushy type). Anyway, my experience has been more pleasant than not:) Thank you for the code great deal on 2lb bag of pasta and veggies for $1.49.

Jenny Muth June 18, 2009 at 11:48 am

My Schwan man is awesome, not pushy at all. They do NOT show up unannounced, but they do come every 2 weeks. They leave a reminder sticker and a catalogue when the new one comes out. You can tell him to take you off the list if you don’t want him to come back. I have gotten some mediocre deals by using the “hot deals” feature where you order ahead of time online. You can’t really get great deals, but their frozen yogurt is delicious, (especially the strawberry supreme, fudge brownie, and triple lemon! AH!!) and they have several other items I purchase every once in awhile. I’m a sporadic shopper, but my rep has always been friendly and courteous.

Sue B June 18, 2009 at 12:04 pm

My family and I love absolutely love their lemonade. In our area, they come bi-weekly. They come about the same day about the same time every other week. They always seem to suggest other items but I just tell them I’m not interested. So far, I have not had a problem doing that. Last winter when I wasn’t ordering anything I just told them I would put an order in on-line when I needed something and they stopped coming by. Now that I ordered lemonade again they stop by every other week. We have tried a few other products all of which have been really good but it all seems kind of expensive to me. So if I do get something it comes out of food budget for that week and I have to plan accordingly.

sarah June 18, 2009 at 12:09 pm

you have to be a new costumer in order to redeem this

Julie June 18, 2009 at 12:11 pm

I agree with Michelle. I used them about four years ago because of an offer of a “free gift” to try them out. I did get my free ice cream, but they came back EVERY week and were very pushy. I told the driver I was no longer interested, but he kept coming back. Finally I had to call the office and tell them to please stop the delivery man from coming to my house, that I was no longer interested in the product!

sarah June 18, 2009 at 12:15 pm

I am a wife of a schwans man and yes they work on comission but if you tell them you are not interested and not to stop anymore they won’t. but otherwise they will come every 2 weeks and always on the same day around the same time so they do not show up unannounced. they have a lot of easy and fast meals i love it yeah if you are on a real tight budget it may not be for you but the prices and the amount you get are sometimes better than the store just go to the website and look around.

Lisa June 18, 2009 at 12:33 pm

Schwan’s is fairly expensive, but the quality is good. I’ve used them off and on for the past 7 years. My guy swings by every two weeks on a Wednesday around 11am. If I order 48 hrs in advance from their website, I get a discount and some things are pre-order only. Now that my grocery budget is drastically reduced, I only order every 6-8 weeks.

Try these items:

Buttermilk Pancakes #481 $5.99
8 – 3 ct. pkgs., 2.1 lbs.
$0.75 per Serving, Serves 8

SCHWAN’S SIGNATURE® Vanilla Ice Cream Miniatures
#125 $6.99
20 count
$0.35 per Serving, Serves 20

Fully Cooked Angus Meatloaf #399 $13.59
8 – 3 oz. portions, 1.5 lbs.
$1.70 per Serving, Serves 8

Total lifesaver when I was pregnant and for the newborn stage–my husband can’t cook, but he can microwave Schwan’s meatloaf!

Jessica Sheets June 18, 2009 at 12:42 pm

ICE CREAM

Jennifer Muth June 18, 2009 at 12:48 pm

I am not a new customer, and I redeemed it just fine. Got email confirmation and everything! I guess we will see when he shows up next week!

Carrie June 18, 2009 at 12:49 pm

They come on a set day bi-weekly here. If I tell them I’m not interested, they never argue. I’ve been through 4 different guys, and none of them have been pushy.

I don’t buy nearly as often as I used because of the cut in our budget so I’m often not placing orders when they come. I asked the one guy how long they keep coming, even if you don’t order and he said “We keep coming until you tell us not to.” So be sure to tell them you don’t want to be on their regular route if you order something.

I will say their food is awesome! My favorites are their icecream, chocolate chip cookie dough and mini cinnamon rolls. It’s definitely pricier than buying it at the store and you’re never going to get a bargain from them but it IS really good.

Shannon June 18, 2009 at 12:57 pm

I grew up on this food. I was actually going to go check andc still see if they sold vegetable sticks and I happened to see this coupon so thanks! They come on a set schedule. They will give you a sticker and tell you when they are coming next. I have never had one that was very pushy. I would just tell them that you want to try what you have and you will call him or order again online if you decide you want another order, just make it clear you don’t want a regular stop.

Stephanie June 18, 2009 at 12:59 pm

My Schwann’s nam is wonderful as well. He comes every two weeks, and is fine with taking “no” for an answer. He simply leaves his sticker with the date that he’ll return. I sometimes go months without ordering a thing.

I love the green bean fries, and I love, love, LOVE the french baguette bread! It’s delicious, and under the $5 mark I believe.
I’d recommend being upfront about your expectations, and it’ll be fine.

Jennifer June 18, 2009 at 1:06 pm

mmmm Schwan’s food is sooo good. I love their ice cream. We used to buy food from them a lot growing up, our delivery guy was the best, never pushy.

I think they have a lot of great convenience foods and easy dinners if you are not into cooking, it is cheaper than eating out all the time. However, you don’t really strike me as someone who is looking for easy, albeit slightly expensive, dinners. You can just buy special treats occasionally, but it can be rough for the delivery people if they drive all the way to your house and you only get 1 little thing.

These are just my thoughts to help you make an informed decision on whether this is something you want to do. :-)

Jara Malchow June 18, 2009 at 1:09 pm

My Schwan’s man just left! I love their food and have ordered them for YEARS! Tim always comes around the same time every other week. (Although he goes to my friends only once a month because that’s what she prefers) I love their ice cream!! But I’d have so say that my favorite things to order are their Apple Bites and the Cream Cheese Wontons. My husband loves their Apple Cherry Berry juice.

Jara Malchow June 18, 2009 at 1:12 pm

I also should add that because I ordered over $60 worth of products he gave me a $10 off coupon that I can use on anything after July 4th.

Jenn June 18, 2009 at 1:16 pm

I didn’t read any of the other comments, so sorry if I repeat anything! :) My husband has been begging me for years to order from them and I finally gave in a couple months ago. Though their prices are higher than discount stores (Walmart is where I do most of my grocery shopping), their quality is excellent. We love their green beans and 5 cheese bread. Their fried rice is really good, too. I add chicken to it and it feeds our family of 4 (no left overs–it’s so good!).

Jill June 18, 2009 at 1:29 pm

Try the Chocolate Malt Push Pops! It’s like eating a Frosty push pop! We use to order but because we’re trying to cut out extra expenses we’ve asked him to stop coming. We told him that if we needed anything we’d just order it online or call him. He came once a month (per our request) and when we didn’t need anything he left us with a bright orange reminder sticker and went about his route. Never any pressure. If you end up with someone who pressures you, call the main office. Commission or no commission, a sales guy is representing the whole company. They’ll want to know if they need to give the guy a little pep talk in customer service :)

CcsMomma June 18, 2009 at 1:33 pm

YOU MUST TRY TRIPLE LEMON FROZEN YOGURT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s a seasonal summer only treat that doesn’t last long when you’ve got 3 adults and 2 kids vying for a scoop.

My brother was a driver for Schwans. My mom and daddy still order from them. The drivers are pretty good at coming around the same time every 2 weeks. If mom and dad are going to be away at the time he’s due, they let the money in an envelope in the freezer. What’s great is your ice cream or other frozen goods don’t melt on the way home from the grocery store. Mom and dad stick to the frozen veggies and ice cream novelties. Just be sure to know your prices (which I’m sure you’ll have no trouble with!)

CcsMomma June 18, 2009 at 1:34 pm

Oh, and I forgot to mention. Anything we’ve ever ordered was great quality!

Anne June 18, 2009 at 2:08 pm

We have not had the bad experience some commenters have had. We love Schwans! Of course much of their food is unhealthy and very pricey, so I stay away from that stuff for the most part, but their vegetables are quite competitive with grocery store prices and much better quality in my opinion. Our delivery guy is very nice and not pushy at all. He alerts me to sales but does not push me to buy anything. We have had a couple different guys and they were both great. Some weeks I don’t buy anything at all and he seems fine with that. If I were you I would use the $5 coupon for vegetables (like the frozen broccoli or california blend) and see what kind of great quality you get.

Karen June 18, 2009 at 2:08 pm

Good quality food and GREAT Ice Cream. I’ve used them in the past and my mom has used them for years. I’ve never had a problem with a pushy one. He usually will offer something they have on “sale”, but my grocery store cashiers are required to do that too. I think you used to be able to choose to have them stop by just once a month, but I don’t know if that is still an option. My mom’s driver even gave her his home phone number so if she needs something and it isn’t the week for him to come, he makes an extra trip; so I’d say bad service vs. good service is just a matter of who works in your area. Try it out…like anything else, if you don’t like it you can cancel.

zina June 18, 2009 at 2:47 pm

Thank you for the coupon. This would be my first order with them. I got the 2lb potao wedges for 0.99, No one can beat the price and I love potatoes. I will just make it clear that I want them to show up only when I order online. W’ll see…
Zina

katie June 18, 2009 at 2:55 pm

I did not know the pushy part. I will be sure to tell them up front I ordered because of a special and not to harrass me. Ugh…just what I need.

Bonnie June 18, 2009 at 3:07 pm

I ordered the Wild Berry Frozen Yogurt. The man who delivers in this area lives right up the hill from me. If he hounds me, I’ll tell him I will sneak out in the middle of the night and roll his truck down the hill. HeeHee…J/K :-)

I really can’t wait to try it. I will try the pizzas soon. It’s hot here so I was in a frozen yogurt mood today. :-) Thanks for the promo code!

All Things Frugal 4-U & Me June 18, 2009 at 3:27 pm

I got the Summer’s Dream ice cream 1/2 gallon for $4.99 and it still took the code because of the $1 shipping. After the code it came to .99 delivered to my door;)

Nancy June 18, 2009 at 3:33 pm

Pricey compared to sales+coupons but much higher quality food, especially the frozen veggies and fruit. I have several favs we eat as treats. (less expensive than a dinner out but almost easier) Also they have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Love it or get a refund even if you eat some of it. They come every 2 weeks on a set day. My driver has never tried to “up-sell” me and always is respectful. If I am going to be gone I just tell him and he skips me that week. Waaaaay less pushy than all the “special offers” that usually come with internet freebies. Ice cream is amazing and their frozen novelties are far too good to share with the kids. Hubs and I hide them in the freezer. :) I would recommend them to anybody.

Melissa Juvinall June 18, 2009 at 3:41 pm

Thanks for the promo code–I will order something with it. Our Schwans guy just came today and I didn’t need anything. I never thought to ask him to only come by once a month–great idea.

We love their chicken nuggets, curly fries, regular fries, and tater tots. Their vegetables are also good. We love their ice cream, but it’s so expensive we hardly buy it. What we do buy from them lasts a long time, so it doesn’t seem like such a hardship when we place an order. I’ll be curious to hear what you think!!

Lisa June 18, 2009 at 3:46 pm

I got the cheese pizza for $4.99 so it was .99 delivered to my door. The delivery man seemed very nice and not pushy at all.

Kim June 18, 2009 at 4:47 pm

While I love the idea of Schwann’s . . especially all the yummy suggestions mentioned above, I am going to have to pass on this one. I am from the school of thought that we frugal shoppers are “deal” loyal, not brand or store loyal. These Schwann guys are hard working/ commission salesmen who are trying to carve out a living. I am suddenly in the mood for ice cream, however!

Mom2MyHLHSBoy June 18, 2009 at 5:06 pm

I love the funnelcake fries!!!!!!!!! Off to place my order…..

Beeb June 18, 2009 at 5:16 pm

I ordered this pizza and paid .99 cents after the delivery fee:

http://www.schwans.com/products/productDetail.aspx?id=63873&c1=10247&c2=9271

Yummy! Thanks for the great tip. :)

Janet June 18, 2009 at 7:12 pm

We have used Schwans for years, they come every two weeks and sometimes every 4 weeks. Once I asked the schwan man to come back in about 2 months and he did. So it worked out. I don’t always order anything and he gives me a sticker to put on my calendar to remind me when he comes back. Although lately I don’t buy too much from him because were paying off debts. Food is excellent though!! We order the fish usually because that is the only kind my husband will eat(Breaded Blue Hake). Bomb pops are around $5 and that is my husbands favorite rather than getting them from the icecream truck randomly.

Mary In Ohio June 18, 2009 at 7:50 pm

We love Schwan’s esp their bomb pops and the ice cream. The ice cream is expensive but no more so than making my own (which is what my dh prefers I do to buying it at the grocery store.) Everything we have had from them has been really good. Our driver comes every two weeks at the same time and is really good about it even when I do not order anything!

Keren @ Saving in Greenville June 18, 2009 at 8:04 pm

I have a list of over 15 items under $5.50 posted on my site:

Lisa Bullock-Spiker June 18, 2009 at 8:06 pm

I use to get Shawns alot when we lived in Arizona. We were a two income family and the convenience was worth the price at the time. Their ice cream and pizzas are the best!HMMM, maybe I will order something just for this deal, LOL..If they have any pizzas left…….

Jenna June 18, 2009 at 8:30 pm

I ordered the fried rice- I figure nothing can be bad for .99 :)

Heidi June 18, 2009 at 10:53 pm

My e-mail confirmation says that they owe ME $0.01! I put right in the delivery instructions that if I want additional product, I will order online…please do not solicit at my home…we’ll see if it works!

I love the Light Cookies n Cream ice cream, which is $5.49. But they do charge $1 for delivery. I don’t think you can stop them from coming to your home. My mother and I are both Schwan’s customers and we have repeatedly told the different drivers that we would order onlline of we needed anything and they still come by every 2 weeks. Now, they deliver to my office, so it’s not as big of an inconvenience. I have never ordered anything from Schwan’s that wasn’t absolutely delicious.

Mary June 19, 2009 at 2:15 pm

They have a box of frozen chocolate flavored paddle pops that are to die for…if you are on Weight Watchers, that is! (Don’t expect Haagen Daas, I’m used to diet food so these are great!) They end up being ZERO points because of the fiber in them (ugg, I know, but honestly they are good tasting!)

They are shaped like the old Jello frozen pops were back in the 80′s (am I THAT old?) that we used to get as kids…

And did I mention they are CHOCOLATE?

Go to Ice Cream, then “Bars and Sticks”, then “Sticks”, then you’ll see “Trim Creations fudge sticks”. $9.99 for 24 (which I guess isn’t all that bad for a diet product) or here is the link:

http://www.schwans.com/products/productDetail.aspx?id=53019&c1=10236&c2=9268

Again, Weight Watcher people – ZERO POINTS EACH (only if you eat one – if you eat more than one at a time, it might be a point, you’ll have to check) Best kept secret among WW people! Sugar and fat free, too. 99% positive reviews.

Ordering mine right now for $5 off! Woo hoo!

Ashley A. June 19, 2009 at 11:18 pm

I just ordered the French Baguette bread and used the $5 off deal…… 3 loaves for $1.61 (dollar extra for delivery fee) !! I grew up with Schwan’s and I remember the drivers were always a little persistent, but they seemed to listen when you told them you were on a strict budget but would welcome any deals/coupons to buy in the future. I live in another town now, so I wonder what this delivery driver will be like!

Those orange dream bars were heaven in the summer when I was growing up!! We also ordered the pizza flavored egg rolls, which were a family favorite!

Rae June 20, 2009 at 1:01 pm

Well the schwans man comes here every once in a while anyway (I have never ordered) because somebody near me orders from them and he goes door to door to that person’s neighbors. So if he is coming to bug me anyway, I might as well get a freebie (well cheapie) out of it! Thanks :)
