Walgreens: Dove deodorant money-maker! (No longer working)

by crystal on March 4, 2009

Dove

The Walgreens deals just keep on rolling in this week!

Remember the Dove Soap possible money-maker deal I posted about yesterday? Well, not only does buying 8 Dove soaps produce a $10 Register Reward, buying 8 trial size deodorants also does this!

The best news of all? The deodorants are regularly priced at $0.99 so no coupon is required. In addition, there was a $1.50/2 Dove deodorant coupon in the 1/18 RedPlum insert which does not exclude trial sizes.

So, if you have enough of the $1.50/2 coupons, you could buy 8 trial size deodorants, use 4 $1.50/2 coupons, spend $1.92 plus tax out of pocket, and get back a $10 Register Reward!

Even if you don't have the $1.50/2 coupons, this is still a small money-maker. Plus, if you want to buy some of the soaps for $0.99 each, you can also mix and match the deodorants and soaps on this deal and get $10 Register Reward when you buy eight in a transaction.

This deal is no longer working.

A big thanks to Hip 2 Save for alerting us to this sweet deal!

My walgreens no longer lets us do moneymakers.
Not even if it’s 1 penny over! I told them to keep the penny and they still said no deal. I hope it doesn’t happen to you.

Money Saving Mom here: Actually, you should be able to do this deal regardless. You are “making money” on the Register Reward earned, not the actual transaction. Make sense?

Since the dove deal wasn’t in our ad because we’re on a smaller ad, do you think we can still do this deal?

**************************
Money Saving Mom here: Yes, it should work universally. The Dove deal is running for a few weeks.

I am new to shopping at Walgreens (and I’m starting to do more couponing), and I have a question.
Can you use more than one Manufacturer’s coupon on a certain item?

*********************
Money Saving Mom here: The rule of thumb for all stores is one manufacturer’s coupon per item. In the case of Walgreens, you can stack both a store coupon and a manufacturer’s coupon. (The store coupons are coupons which are in the ads or in the EasySaver booklets.)

I just noticed after checking my receipt for the sambucol (or whatever that was) and the Revlon emery boards that it rang up as a manufacturer coupon. When I looked in the EScatalog, it said manufacturer coupon that can only be used at Walgreens. Didn’t they used to say “store coupon” ? Or have they always said that? I didn’t have a problem with using them I just happened to be checking my receipt after gettting home. I’ll look into doing this Dove deal if I brave the store again (I HATE Walgreens and only go if I have several things to get) because I only use Dove deodorant.

I bought 8 of the travel size. I only got back a $6 register reward. It was still a money maker, but not for $10.

I have not been to Walgreens in years. But that was awesome! I totally got the dove deal. (Only had 5 travel size so I had to buy three bars of soap too.) I got the rewards back and then did my next transaction which included the free toothpaste and free after rebate axe. That was fun!

The trial size soaps are also working for the deal! I bought 4 of the full size soaps, 2 trial size deodorants, and 2 trial size soaps and got the $10 RR back!

10 help! March 4, 2009 at 7:55 pm

I was so excited to go out and get the $10 coupon yesterday! I am new to all of this so I am not sure what went wrong…I got the 8 dove soaps and got a $3.50 and a $6.00 coupon, which were for my next purchase, in addition I got a $10 off my next Dove purchase. Which one of these were register rewards? I just sent my poor hubby out with all of my coupons to get the 8 trial size deodorants…he came home with a $3.50 coupon and that was all. The checkout lady took my $10 coupon and ripped it up. She would not combine the $3.50 and $6.00 coupons so he used the $6.00 coupon and paid the rest…but rec’d no additional coupons/rewards. My head is swimming with all this stuff…please help!!! :-) My poor husband feels like he screwed up but I don’t think he could have done anything differntly. Perhaps I should stick with CVS :-) it’s so much easier.

Hi,
I’ve been doing the deals for about a month and a half now. Your blog is so very helpful! I did this deal tonight with 6 deo (3 coupons) and then 2 soaps. Sure enough, I got 10 in RR!! My closest Wal-greens also started refusing to stack coupons this week and also refusing to use more than 1 RR per transacation, and the manager was just NOT nice. I’m happily doing my deals at the next closest.
Thanks again,
Kari

worked for me tonight-bought 8 Dove powder scent priced at $.99 each and got the $10 reward. The deoderants I got weren’t with the trial though-they were with the other full size deoderants.

I really racked up tonight. Thanks for posting about the dove deal. I had a total oop of 29.68 and got 21.50 in register rewards from the dove, colgate, and blink tears deal. I used all of my manuf qs, then used the instore qs. I was only able to get .99 off of 3 of my soaps…but did a combo of 5 soaps 3 trial size deodorants…i cleaned out the shelf! I had no problems doing it all in one transaction – nothing beeped…and by the way…the fructis deal works on mouse (which I needed) – our store had it for 3.99 so I paid .99 after instore coupon + manuf q. By stacking qs I netted $3.74 on the money makers to offet my other purchases. Thank you for what you do.

Is this dove thing a montly deal?

Thanks!

Debbie Lynne, I believe you had a problem because once you recieve your register reward $10.00 on the Dove deal, you cannot buy more dove to use your $10.00 because it will not print out another 10.00 reward. You can buy more dove and pay money and it will give you another $10.00 rr. Make sense?

18 Lori March 4, 2009 at 10:01 pm

LeAnna- That’s exactly what I did tonight and it worked. 3 soaps (all they had left) with the in-ad coupon to make them 99ยข each and 5 trial sized deodorants (found next to regular size deodorants). I received a $10 RR.

Can someone please tell me what page of the circular the Dove deal is on? I have found a very nice Walgreens near me, but when things don’t ring up correctly or when RR’s don’t print, I like to be able to show the cashier what the ad said. The problem is that I can’t find the Dove deal in my circular or in the online circular! Can someone help? Thanks!

I HATE walgreens but I just couldn’t resist the deals this week. I got the 8 dove soaps and the $10RR and then rolled it to get the eye drops and toothpaste. good deal but not without fighting with the cashier to take my coupons etc. then when I called walgreens corp to complain they told me that you cannot stack man q with RR. is that true?

I just got back from Walgreens when I paid for my 8 Dove items, no RR printed. So I explained to the really nice lady and she called the manager but since we could not find it in the ad, I just go a refund. They didn’t know about it and I couldn’t prove it. I did some more shopping and picked up the toothpaste, I checked out with her and did not get a RR. The manager came and figured out her machine was not working, he refunded and took me to another machine which did work. I ran got the Dove products and the deal worked on that machine! He said they have no way of knowing if their catalina machine is not working. He also wished he would have known about the Dove deal so he could have figured it out sooner that the machine at the other register wasn’t working. Thanks for the heads up!

Just got back from doing the trial size deodorant deal. It worked great. I got back 10RR for it. I did paid $8.47(including tax) cash OOP for it so that I could return it easily if it did not. I did not have the $1.50/2 coupon. There was not a RR ad sign with the trial size, there was only one with the larger size which made me think it might not work , but it did. I hope this helps someone.

I got the last 3 Dove full sized bars (with coupon, $.99) and 5 travel sized deodorants ($.99/ each) with 2 $1.50 coupons. I paid with a gift card that I got from the Rebates so I didn’t pay anything additional out of pocket. So, before tax, the total is $4.92 and I got the $10 RR to print. The one thing I don’t like about RR’s though is that you don’t have much time to use them – 2 weeks.

28 Megan March 5, 2009 at 1:43 pm

It worked for me. I got 8 /.99 deo’s, 4 coupons and got the 10 RR. Yay!

29 cheapMama March 5, 2009 at 2:19 pm

The deodorants that are part of the deal are the 0.5 oz size next to the full size deodorants- not in the travel section. Worked great for me! I’ll probably go back to get the soap deal, though my ad didn’t have the coupon- I think the circulars are different by city/ state. Hope someone can help me w/ this question though: Can I purchase more than one item with a RR in one transaction? For example, the Dove and the Vaseline Intensive Care lotion- if I bought them as part of the same transaction, would both RRs print??? That would save me a bunch of trips through the line… Thanks, ladies!

[Reply]

30 cheapMama March 5, 2009 at 2:21 pm

Oh, and the deal lasts all month, according to the sign next to the deodorants- lots free!! :-)

[Reply]

31 Misty March 5, 2009 at 3:47 pm

cheapMama:

The scenario you asked about – buying Dove and Vaseline in the same transaction – the RR should print for both as they are different deals (as long as you don’t pay with a RR from either of those deals).

Hope that makes sense! :)

32 cheapMama March 5, 2009 at 5:32 pm

For those of you who are wondering where this deal is listed, I remember seeing it in last week’s ad.

I’m in Indiana and this deal worked GREAT! I used the $10 RR (I paid $7.32 OOP for 4 mini deodorants and 4 travel size bars) to buy the Colgate and Vaseline (both moneymakers!). Then, at another Walgreens (there are 3 w/in 5 miles of our place) I did the Dove deal again. The young guy who rang up my order was so sweet! While he was scanning my Dove products a coupon for $1.50 off 2 Dove “ultimate” deodorants printed out and at the end of my transaction he said “let’s see if you can use this too” and it worked! He was all impressed with my good deal :-) I love the kids who work at my Walgreens!

I made $6 on the travel size Dove deodorant and the single Dove bar soap. My store didn’t have enough of either so I had to do a combo deal. LOL!

My Walgreens refused to use the $1.00 manufacturer Nabisco coupon for Ritz crackers this week because the buy 1, get 1 free store coupon only cost 99 cents. They would probably do the same with this one. Does anyone know the corporate policy on this?

I was able to do the deal today with 6 soaps and 2 deodorants, then I used the $1.50/2 Dove deordorant coupon! I spent $7.15 with tax and got back $10. The cashier wrote down your web address so she can get the scoop on the deals too!!!

I was able to do the deodorant deal. Because Wags was short on deodorant, I had to go to another location buy 2, return them to the other store where I combined them with the 6 they had and got the rr’s. They were both out of soap, too! It was sort of annoying to have to do it that way, but I wanted to get them to donate to the food pantry. And even with tax and driving, I still came out ahead. I also got 2 lotions to donate (Vaseline Intensive Care from a previous post and made a little $ on that deal as well.) Thanks for all the great deals.

This deal must have worked in my area, because the 2 stores I checked last night were completely cleaned out of the Dove soap and deodorant! I tried an Irish Spring deal that I read on another blog and it did not print up the RR, so I will check another store tonight and return the Irish Spring!

Am I the only one who doesn’t seem to have the $1.50/2 deodorant coupon in the specified Red Plum insert?

[Reply]

42 Amanda March 7, 2009 at 1:35 pm

I was going to try this deal at my Mechanicsville, VA (Richmond) WAG store and it is not quite as good a money maker as others are reporting. I found the trial size deodorant with the full size ones, but ours are not .99 cents rather are $1.49. I had 2 $1.50/2 Dove Qs and was going to by 5 plus 3 of the .99 Dove soaps w/Q from the add. This deal with my manf. Qs would have still been free after RR and made money, but I decided against it since my money maker would not have been as good. I think I will go to another nearby store as I saw something on clearance that I had a manf. Q for. If I go I will report if the prices are the same. I think it varies by store and area becuase the clearance item I wanted was a much better deal at the other store. No one else seemed to report the $1.49 deodorant price at their stores, so we will see. I have RRs to use from last night’s purchase too. Yay!

43 lisa March 7, 2009 at 1:39 pm

couldnt do the deal for either the soaps or the deodorant – no register rewards printed out for either! I feel robbed! :)

[Reply]

44 Jennifer March 7, 2009 at 8:30 pm

I did the 6 soaps and 2 trial size deo’s. I got back $6 RR. I didn’t realize that the deo’s were not the right one’s. So that was good I got something. LOL

I did find 2 Mylanta’s on clearance for $1.79 each, then the Simbocol was $11.99 each. I used 2 $4 off for the Simbocol and then also used the Easy Saver book for $10 off each Simbocol and $2 off each Mylanta. It showed me getting a refund and the girl wanted to check with the manager. I said I’d just buy something else so she said ok. I bought the Self Magazine with a $1 coupon and a bag of M & M’s for my daughter and paid out 85 cents. Woo Hoo

Off tomorrow to try the Glade deals!

Thanks for ALL that you do!

[Reply]

45 Felicia March 7, 2009 at 8:59 pm

Mine only printed $2 RR. Not $10=( I returned all of it. Poor manager. He actually refunded more then he was supposed to. I pointed it out to him so he had to void it and return it all again at the correct amount.

To the person who posted saying the cashier refused to use your RR and tore it up:

I would have asked to speak to the manager about that and I definitely would have called customer service and b*tched up a storm about that one. It’s true you can’t use a RR earned on one item to purchase the same item again but that $10 RR works just as good as cash on something else. She might as well have taken a $10 bill of yours and ripped it up. Regardless of whether the coupon can be used for that deal or not, it was your coupon, your property and not her place to tear up something that was yours. I would be p’ed off like you wouldn’t believe if a cashier did that to me.
