I LOVED the fp little people as a kid, I know they were super simple, but I had so much fun with them, as did my siblings. It’s such a coincidence that I was telling my husband 2 weeks ago how I wish they still sold the original style little people! The new ones are cute but they’re just not the simple little ones they were before. I am SO excited to see they are going to be selling the retro sets I am going to pick some up. I love simple toys for kids, I think they foster imagination. I’m a full grown adult and no kids yet but I am going to pick up a couple anyway! :)

Off topic of this post, but I just made my first freezer food! Well, waffles are a common occurrence for the freezer, but that’s it.

Today I made and froze Banana Bread with my daughter! We had a bunch of bananas that were too old to eat, so we pulled out the Betty Crocker cookbook and were happy to find that we had every ingredient we needed on hand. We doubled the recipe for four loaves – two to eat and two for the freezer. I’m so excited that I actually did my first real freezer food! Maybe I’ll feel brave enough to try a real meal soon :-)

Thanks for all of these posts and the inspiration.

My child loves Thomas! This would be perfect for him!
I love freebies, and its funny because I just wrote a post about them on my blog. How fitting. Well, thanks for the tip!

When I clinked on the link for the coupon, nothing came up. Is there somewhere else to go to print it? (I did look at the Toys R Us website-nothing)

Bethany March 21, 2009 at 10:16 am

the link worked for me but I had to install adobe reader (new computer – didn’t have it yet). we went and did get 3 of these trains. I will warn you that our toys r us only had 3 of the lights and sounds one and less than 20 of the others. we were there 10 min after opening today and all they had was the shelf stock!

Laurie March 21, 2009 at 11:14 am

Click on the “go here”, not on the picture of the train. I did that the first time. I went and got one for my grandson. He will love it. Thanks!

Tammy March 21, 2009 at 11:43 am

Thank you. I was able to get two one for my daughter and one for my nephew!

Maureen March 21, 2009 at 12:17 pm

Picked one up for my son today. He was thrilled. Thanks, Crystal!

Jodi March 21, 2009 at 12:19 pm

My friends went last night and they had none in stock and I went this morning and there were none on their shelves. Our Toys R Us is horrible andy ways.

Kim March 21, 2009 at 12:21 pm

We were able to get three of the trains. We were there when we opened and no one else was waiting. I used a coupon for me and one for each of two of my children. There we no problems using the coupons. They did have a special display of the four trains that were offered. But three of the trains also had a number of them on the regular shelf. Thank you so much for this freebie- my son loves Thomas!!

Tausha March 21, 2009 at 12:44 pm

Wow this was a great deal! We got 3 of the trains. They were regular priced $12, $13, and $17!

Crystal March 21, 2009 at 1:15 pm

Thank you for posting this deal! I picked up one for my son today. I am going to save it for his Easter basket, he will be so excited!

Kari March 21, 2009 at 1:38 pm

We got our free train and our free little people dvd! Thanks so much!

Andrea Reynolds March 21, 2009 at 2:09 pm

All you Thomas lovers- Michaels Craft store usually has a coupon every Sunday for 40-50%off any one non-sale item. They also carry Thomas the Train stuff!!! It might take a few weeks, but this would be a great way to build up a collection or track set!!!

Wendy March 21, 2009 at 2:15 pm

Got one for myself but they wouldn’t let my son use his coupon. Wish the coupon would say “One per household” instead of “one per guest” if that’s what it meant. Oh well, one is still nice. Thanks!

Jen March 21, 2009 at 3:00 pm

Crystal – thanks again for another great freebie! My son loves Thomas and we were able to pick up 2 of the trains plus the Little People DVD. What a great way to reward my son for being such a good helper this week while we tended his uncle who just had surgery. Your site has been a true blessing for us since we found you, thank you for the encouragement on staying home with my son and keeping our expenses down.

Paige March 21, 2009 at 3:30 pm

thank you! i had to pull 2 little boys away from the thomas train set this morning to get them to go to toys r us to get them each a new train!

Emily Mitchell March 21, 2009 at 4:44 pm

Angela March 21, 2009 at 4:45 pm

Awesome!! I’m on a “no-spend challenge” for the next two weeks so it was nice to be able to let my son pick out a free toy and get a free movie to boot…and I paid $0!!!!! Love it!

Wow! We picked up the last one at the Toys R Us by us! We went at noon to join in on the Little People celebration, too. They sure go fast!

Sophia March 21, 2009 at 5:25 pm

Thanks so much! I think we were the only ones around here that knew about this since the shelves were still full at noon. Both of my kids were able to use their coupons, but we decided not to use one for each of us adults so that more kids could get some. :) I know I always appreciate it when people “leave some for me.”

You can’t beat $30 worth of toys for FREE!

Amy W March 21, 2009 at 5:29 pm

thanks so much! We had a GREAT time and i spent $0!
Both of my sons used a coupon and got a train ( i didnt think to get one for myself! DUH!) and we stayed for the little people party!
THANKS!
Retail value would’ve been $30!

Frances March 21, 2009 at 5:36 pm

Thanks for letting us know about this deal. The value of this little train in our stores is $18! Wow!

I posted the photo of one of the four trains on my site to make it easier to find. They did not have them on display and I couldn’t locate someone to help me. No big deal, I found it on aisle 9e, hopefully this will make it easier for you to locate.

This is such a great little toy, I think I am going to use it as a birthday gift. We have a lot of birthday parties coming up this summer.

Just wanted to post that this worked great today! I snagged one and payed zippo! Not even tax. I plan to save it for stuffying in my kids Easter basket. Thanks for the link!

Penny March 21, 2009 at 6:34 pm

We got two and happened to see someone from church, so gave our other two coupons to them. They seemed to have some at 11:15. Sadly, we could not stay for the little peeps.

Megan March 21, 2009 at 8:00 pm

Thanks! My daughter was thrilled.

bybee.emily@gmail.com March 21, 2009 at 8:10 pm

Today was my son’s birthday and he went and got his free train. I was expecting a dinky cheap chain, but it was GREAT and worth $17!!! It seems I may have been one of the only ones who knew about it in our town… they had tons! Thanks for the GREAT tip!

sammiekat March 21, 2009 at 8:19 pm

Oh wow- this is an awesome coupon! I am going tomorrow to see if they have any left for my son. I love Toys R Us- they always have some sort of great promo. If anyone is interested, Toys R Us is also running a PayPal promo where you can save $10 off a $75 purchase. I used this the other day to save on a few video games. May be useful to those that don’t have a Toys R Us locally and want to shop online. Here’s the link to the deal-

Karen March 22, 2009 at 4:35 pm

Hey Crystal. I went to Toys ‘R Us to get the trains and I had to ask for help finding them (not one train on the shelves matched the numbers on the coupon). While I was standing there, I was talking to some ladies. I asked how they heard about the coupon and they said, “Money Saving Mom”. I said, “Oh, from Crystal Paine? I’m Thrifty Mommy.” So funny. You’re getting the word out.

We ended up getting 3 different trains. None on the shelves matched the coupon, but the Fisher Price party was ending and the lady from that went to the back and found Handel. I decided to pick up a Thomas and Percy to see if they would can with the coupon and they did! My kids were happy and I was happy that we got $40 in trains for free! :)

Anna March 23, 2009 at 10:21 am

Thanks for great coupon! We went as soon as the store opened on Saturday. They had tons of each in stock, I printed off a bunch of extra coupons and handed them out to the parents in the store. The employees not only let me and my son go through seperately, they let go through twice! So…got four free trains for free! And passed out ten more for strangers! You’re the best!

Karen March 23, 2009 at 12:26 pm

Thank you so much. I have a Toys R Us credit card that I use and pay off in full each month so I had a few $10 gift cards for Toys R Us as well. I have 4 kids and was able to get all 4 trains plus the little people DVD. The kids had a great time and afterwards we went to the park for more free fun.
