For those who might not have $1/1 coupon for the Reach toothbrush, if you go back to the Pharmacy and pick up their diabetes care magazine (can’t think of the name), there is a coupon for .50 off.

_Kristine February 28, 2009 at 7:57 pm

The $1.35 Fiber One bar coupon is for the Chocolate Mocha variety ONLY. I’ve never seen that flavor in the stores, so I’m guessing it’s brand new. My Walgreens only carries the original Oats & Chocolate flavor Fiber One bars.

Tani February 28, 2009 at 10:31 pm

I have been buying these free stuff and donating them, if I don’t need. In this economy, I’m thinking on making some extra money by selling these free products. Can anyone suggest any ideas?

Anny February 28, 2009 at 10:42 pm

I just found out from my coupon friend who works at Walgreens that when you buy 3 Reach toothbrushes @ $.99 each and then use 3–$1.00 coupons, you get a $3.00 RR.
Free toothbrushes–and a $3.00 profit.

jamie March 1, 2009 at 12:18 am

I just picked up the new ALL YOU magazine, there is another Colgate Total $1.50Q inside. I was getting worried…our local magazine company has been on strike for almost 2 weeks now.
Glad to see the reach toothbrush rr deal:)

Steve March 1, 2009 at 1:33 am

Hi all!

My name is Steven, and I’m a SIMS Coordinator at Walgreens Co.

First off, let me thank you all for the positive feedback on our great little pharmacy (though, we’re not so ‘little’ anymore).

Secondly, I’d like to address the issues with out of stock items. Usually, Store Managers are in charge of the Ad orders. These ad orders are done 4 weeks in advance. That means the manager orders things for that specific ad, 4 weeks before the ad actually drops. You can imagine already, how hard that becomes. For one, when the managers order it, it shows the warehouse to send it to that store in 4 weeks. However, say another store runs out before then, then the warehouse sends them the product. When the ad rolls around and the warehouse gets the ad orders, they find they have limited stock because they are trying to replenish week to week.

Thirdly, for all the people saying they need can’t get the cashier to manually enter a coupon, if it’s a Walgreens coupon, tell them to enter the last 4 digits on the coupon (NOT the small, last digit). If it’s a manufacturer coupon, tell them to enter the amount and it MFG Coupon. Believe me, it’s there.

And one last thing – a tip – if you can, shop Saturdays after 4. Most, if not all stores, have Sundays AD tags up. Sundays AD prices are released, by our Corporate offices, at 4:00 P.M. for most areas of the country. What does this all mean? Well if you shop between 4 and close, you get the deals from the last week, as well as the deals for next week. If they have tags out, but the weekly fliers are the current weeks’, ask them for a Weekly. They have to give you one – legally.

And thats all for now.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me @ Steve@psinsider.net

Katie March 1, 2009 at 8:24 am

My walgreens won’t allow me to use the $2 off 2 Ritz cracker coupon. Saying I can’t use a coupon if the item is priced lower than the product. Anyone have the same issue???

Danielle March 1, 2009 at 8:48 am

The Reach & Blink are not in my ad (I’m in MI). We have B1G1 Revlon. I am so bummed that we do not get the good deals again!

Danielle March 1, 2009 at 10:23 am

There is a $2/1 Blink Tears Eye Drops coupon in my local RedPlum insert :)

Monica March 1, 2009 at 10:25 am

My local flyer had no band aids, pepto, fiber one, reach or nivea on sale. Does Walgreens have regional flyers?

Sara March 1, 2009 at 12:06 pm

Revlon Emery Boards–priced around $1.59
Use $1/1 coupon from the March Easysaver catalog
Use $1/1 coupon from 2/8 RedPlum inserts
Free after coupons

Just an FYI – the coupon for Revlon is in the SS insert not the RP.

Diane March 1, 2009 at 12:25 pm

I would like to share my experience with this. When I have used coupons at the same time I would be earning register rewards my rewards do not print. The last time this happened the walgreens associate said too bad too sad.
I would be interested in hearing what others experiences are with these situations.
Thanks.

Tina March 1, 2009 at 12:27 pm

My Wags wouldn’t let me use the $2/2 Ritz coupon because they were BOGO and one was already free. I didn’t argue, I just told them I didn’t want them if they weren’t free.

angie March 1, 2009 at 1:29 pm

I tried to do the ritz cracker deal today and the coupon beeped and it wouldn’t take. I had one extra item since a had a coupon for every item but I’m still confused as to why I couldn’t use it. this happened a couple weeks ago with the toothpaste deal. Any suggestions???

Coby March 1, 2009 at 1:36 pm

Anyone else have trouble stacking the easy saver coupons with then manufacturer coupons? Both of my walgreens refuse to stack, it’s one or the other.

Sarah March 1, 2009 at 1:47 pm

I am new to the Walgreens programs. Is there a time frame in which you must use your RRs or does “next purchase” really mean whenever you shop next?

Rebecca W. March 1, 2009 at 3:28 pm

Walgreens stores in the Houston area have 4 oz. Colgate Total Advanced Fresh toothpaste on sale for $1.79 making them free plus $1.71 OVERAGE after the mentioned coupons!!! Great money maker to use toward non-sale items!

Ann March 1, 2009 at 3:57 pm

I have a que re Sambocul issue…Ours is priced at $13.99. My cashier would not ring up my $4 coupon because she said it’ll turn out to be more than $13.99 (I have other items too so my total was not 0). How can we remedy the situation? Is that always the case? Thanks!!

Holly March 1, 2009 at 5:07 pm

My Walgreens wouldn’t let me create overage:( any suggestions???

Jennifer March 1, 2009 at 6:05 pm

I tried the Ritz crackers $1.99 BOGO deal with the $2/2 coupon at my local Walgreen’s but was denied. They said they wouldn’t accept it because it was $.01 over the amount of the items. I was purchasing one other thing with them, but apparently that didn’t help. I said to forget the whole thing. I’m new to trying Walgreen’s deals, have been trying to get used to CVS ECBs first. Perhaps it was just the clerk? I was bummed.

Misty March 1, 2009 at 6:53 pm

Tani:

If you are thinking about buying these items with the intent to sell them, please look into your local and state sales tax laws. In most states if you are buying items with the intent to re-sell them, you are required to report the sales and pay the appropriate sales tax to the city, county, state, and IRS. Where I live this applies to just about anything I sell where I am making a profit. (Not like a garage sale where you are selling things at a loss.) Just something to think about.

Catherine copeland March 1, 2009 at 7:43 pm

I found perfume gift sets at Target market down 90%.

Contest-Mom March 2, 2009 at 12:02 am

Thanks for sharing this post, this is a big help especially now that the economy is still not stable. Big help for us to save.

Emily March 2, 2009 at 5:30 am

Thank you, Crystal, for your neatly arranged lists of the drugstore deals each week! It is very helpful to see them organized this way!

Suzanne Wells March 2, 2009 at 6:03 am

If no one has mentioned this yet, for the Blink Tears, Use $2/1 coupon from 3/1 Red Plum insert. Makes it FREE plus $2 overage! Thanks Crystal for all your fantastic info!

Mindy March 2, 2009 at 7:08 am

I had the same experience with the Nabisco crackers. I wondered if I was the only one not getting in on the really sweet deals. I’ve learned that for me, if a Walgreen’s deal seem too good to be true, then for me it will be. If the register beeps with a coupon, they just will not take it. Overages-forget about it.
Thanks to Steve for the ‘insider’ info!

Tosh March 2, 2009 at 8:06 am

Thanks Steven for that information concerning the Saturday Shopping. I actually ran into this last weekend. Last week there was a $6 Wags in-ad coupon for One A Day multivitamins. This week they are running a deal for One A Day priced at $7 a bottle. Saturday evening I picked up $107.00 worth of One A Day vitamins for .79 cents! I combined $1 manufacturer coupon with the $6 Wags in-ad coupon and used the next weeks price! I was able to get enough multivitamins to supply 4 adults a year supply!

My only question is the register rewards didn’t print? The deal for this week is 2/$14 get $4 RR. I was able to get the weekly ad price but no RR’s. Do they not start printing until 12 a.m. the morning of the weekly ad?

Honey March 2, 2009 at 8:17 am

Sarah, the register rewards have an expiration date printed on them. Read Crystal’s previous post about how to use your reagister rewards. There’s a strategy to it. You can’t use register rewards to pay for a deal that is going to give you register rewards (if it’s the same deal-in other words you can’t “roll” them like ecbs at CVS). Look at Walgreens tutorial in her archives.

Jennifer March 2, 2009 at 10:45 am

I just called Walgreen’s because my store rejected the Ritz coupon also. They said at the store that it was only for the bigger size. When I pointed out that the coupon did not specify a size, the cashier kept saying “well, that’s what the manager says so we can’t take it.” So I gave up and went home to call Nabisco and Walgreen’s 800 numbers. Nabisco confirmed that the coupon could be used for any size, but that the store would have final say on whether it could accept the coupon or not. So I called corporate with that info, and THEY said that they would not be able to accept the coupon because the sale price was less than the coupon. I said that I know at other stores they will adjust the coupon price down to match the sale price. She said they cannot do that, and that would be illegal and “pricing fraud”. As if I wanted to either defraud them for an extra penny or make them break the law. I KNOW other stores adjust their coupons, so I don’t think it is illegal. I just think their registers won’t do it or else it is too complicated for them to make them do it. I will do some research and see what I can find out about the legality of it. Does anyone know offhand?

Jennifer March 2, 2009 at 10:50 am

I think your vitamin RR did not print because you had more coupons than items (you have to count the in-ad coupon as a coupon too). If you have more coupons than items, the RR won’t print (according to corporate). So even though you can use one manny and one store Q for a purchase, you would only get the RR if you used one TOTAL q per item. Sometimes it works if you buy fillers to account for the extra coupons so that you have the same number of items and coupons.

Lady Di March 2, 2009 at 2:05 pm

At a local store, the cashier typed in the price minus the penny. So instead getting an overage, I balanced out – even. And I came home with free product. Worked for me a 2 different WAGS in Maryland come to think of it.

LISA March 2, 2009 at 2:25 pm

Does anyone have a good location for eye glasses?

Steve March 2, 2009 at 2:35 pm

For the Ritz coupon,

It’s not because the store level people are too dumb to do anything, it’s that our registers are too old, and too outdated to people able to price adjust coupons.

Our registers won’t allow for negative balances of any kind unless the manager is doing an exchange. And even then, you need some kind of reciept in order to initaite the exchange.

I hope this helps.

And also, they’re phasing out new registers towards the end of this year, so we should be getting those kind of capabilities soon.

If you have any more questions, I’ll do my best to answer :D

Thanks,

Steve (WAG SIMS Coordinator)

I couldn’t get the Ritz coupon to work at my store either …

A Frugal Friend March 2, 2009 at 3:16 pm

Couldn’t get my Nabisco deal to work either…..sad!

Kristen March 2, 2009 at 3:32 pm

These wags deals are making my head spin this week! I have 4 transactions planned and plan on spending less than $8 oop for a TON of stuff including 2 packs of diapers. I’ll also end up with a $10 RR to use next week!

Lisa S March 2, 2009 at 5:25 pm

I’m just done with Walgreens, which breaks my heart, but for my fifth trip in a row, they’ve given me trouble about my coupons or have been out of stock. I get a different answer for whether you can use 2 coupos witha BOGO sale every store I go to. And this time, the cashier didn’t ring up the walgreens coupon with each item. The Nivea lip balm rang up 3.99; she only used the walgreens coupon once. I paid $5 for lip gloss I planned to spen .99 cents a piece on.

Every time I leave spending more than planned or leaving without what I went for. It’s a bummer

Wendy March 2, 2009 at 7:35 pm

Today I was able to use 2 of my 3 Ritz coupons. The third one beeped and she said there was nothing she could do about it. It sounds like I’m lucky that even the first two went through.

danicity March 2, 2009 at 8:28 pm

95% of my Walgreens people have been great. I think you need to do small transactions and always buy something with out a coupon in my case milk. Got that tip from frugalsuz’s blog. When my rr’s did not print this week the manager took me to another register and actually credited me back the total of the rr’s which then gave me back the tax. Thanks for all the great info Dani

CHristina March 2, 2009 at 8:55 pm

The Ritz coupons didn’t work for me either. I said just
take them back. The Fiber Ones worked just fine and I they didn’t have that kind. You just have to be careful when shopping there.

Steve March 3, 2009 at 12:18 am

Kristen,

I’m sorry to hear about your bad experiences with Walgreens.

Let me first ask you, when you had your items rung up, did the cashier only use the coupon on the first one, or did he/she ring it up at the end? I say this because the way our coupon system is set up, is that it will take everything down to the sale price at the end, no matter the quantity (Yes, you don’t have to ring up separate transactions! – coupon limits are just to make sure we don’t run out of sale items – though we do anyway).

Technologically speaking, Walgreens is doing some pretty cool stuff coming up, especially in the Photo and Pharmacy departments. However, the one system that still causes us trouble, is Register Rewards. If there is a minor lapse in the server (which sometimes there can be; we have over 6000 stores!), the coupons won’t print. I wish there was a way to make them print, but alas, store level people cannot create RR Coupons. If you do, however, have this problem, have a manager write you a ‘Raincheck’ on however much money the RR should have printed as. Most managers are cool with this, however, some can be quite a pain…

Again, any questions/concerns, and I’d be happy to answer them. We’re in tough economic times, and it’s time that everyone gets a little piece of the pie :D

Thanks,

Steve

Jenna March 3, 2009 at 10:00 am

Maybe this will help some with the Ritz deals.

If you only buy four of the and have 2 coupons, the second will beep because the total on Ritz is less than the coupon value. If you throw in one extra box, I know, you have to pay for that box, but the coupon will work, because your total on Ritz products will be less than the total coupon value. You will get the total value of all the coupons by adding that one extra box.
I think it is worth a few cents on the one box not to have the headache. (and it ends up being less that the total price you pay for that box, because the extra cents from the coupons are taken off of that box.)

Misty March 3, 2009 at 11:11 am

I had the beeping problem with my Ritz coupons (I got 4, had 2 coupons). The guy just read the coupon, made sure I had 4, and manually entered it! yea! :)

Sarah March 3, 2009 at 1:43 pm

I can’t seem to find this answer anywhere. If I buy two of the same RR item on the same transaction, will two RRs print? What about two different RR items on one transaction?

Thanks for the help!

Marion March 3, 2009 at 1:43 pm

My Walgreen’s refused to take off both the Sambucol b/c she said they were both manufacturer coupons??? I was upset but had all 3 kids with me and the manger was at lunch to do anything today. Does any one know about the rules???

*******************
Money Saving Mom here: Walgreens corporate policy is to accept both coupons as one is a store coupon and one is a manufacturer’s coupon. However, some cashiers do not know this and will sometimes refuse to take them as a result.

Julie March 4, 2009 at 4:57 pm

Walgreens would not let me use the Sambacol coupon $4 because that would create overage. They would only take 4 coupons on 5 toothbrushes for the same reason. They took other coupons that created overage on another order and didn’t say a word. I guess they just didn’t notice. I tried the 3 toothbrushes for the 3RR and it did not work. I told the lady that I had had a problem with another store and contacted cooperate about adjusting the coupons. I received a call from the manager there and he told me that he was wrong and they could have adjusted the coupon. She said this was the way she and others were trained but she would look into it. She tried to tell me it woud be fraud.blah blah blah……. Same thing the other manager had told me. She will probably get a different answer.

jill March 5, 2009 at 10:43 pm

Has anyone else had a problem with printing the Sambucol coupon? when I went to print it, it shows a purple circle in the top left on the coupon, but no numeric amount. Our Walgreens is new and I’m thinking they’ll probably freak out that I’m trying to use an ip coupon without a total on it. I emailed Sambucol just a few minutes ago but we’ll see what happens.

becomingfrugal March 6, 2009 at 10:54 am

Does anyone know which reach toothbrush? The ad says reach prevent, but I haven’t seen any that say “prevent” on them, only crystal clean, ultraclean, etc.

becomingfrugal March 6, 2009 at 10:57 am

Misty,

I believe only 1 will print if you buy multiple in the same transaction, unless the limit says higher, but it’s usually just 1.

kate March 6, 2009 at 1:15 pm

The Ritz was a no-go with me, too…

Kerrie Wilson March 6, 2009 at 4:25 pm

I have had all the same problems as the others are having with Walgreen’s,they really should get their act together and start accepting the coupons,CVS never argues with me,or they will be losing my business,it’s a shame because I really like shopping at Walgreen’s,but not enough to argue over a coupon every time I go in there.

sue March 6, 2009 at 8:44 pm

Trouble with the Rtiz here too -I had four boxes and two coupons – Manager said it was because one box was free and you can’t take money off a free box. I said well you get back your $2 from the manufacturer and played dumb. I think it’s because it created an overage. She also denied that they could enter a coupon manually – because they get audited down to the penny. I just bought another two boxes and it worked – I was almost tempted to point her “theory” does not fly because I only technically paid for three boxes and not the four. But since I got 6 boxes for $1.98 I let it go!

********************
Money Saving Mom here: Sue, usually when you’re going to have even a penny of overage, you need to add something onto your order to make the coupons go through. I usually just add on a $0.25 item or something and it almost always works. But sometimes managers don’t understand how coupons work, like you said, and then they will tell you all kinds of interesting theories! If only they understood that coupons actually help their bottom line!
