Earn Starbucks for changing diapers? I’ll take it!

by crystal on December 17, 2008

Pampersgtg

Not too long ago, some of you thoughtfully introduced me to the Pampers Gifts to Grow program since we're such Pampers "snobs" here.

(I think most every family has an item or two that they're unwilling to budget brand-wise on; Pampers happen to be that item for us. We'll usually take generic or the brand that's the least-expensive after sales and coupons, but not when it comes to diapers. We're Pampers all the way there. We've pretty much tried every other brand under the sun and found them to be wanting when held up to Pampers–at least for our daughters and their sensitive skin.)

I've been dutifully entering codes off the diaper packages ever since I first heard about this program and am happy to report that today I was able to cash in on a free box of Cheerios. Okay, so it wasn't anything out-of-this-world, but it's a nice little perk for buying Pampers.

And come April or May, when I'll likely have three in diapers at least some of the time (Kathrynne still wears them at night), I'll really be racking up the points! Let's just hope they continue the program indefinitely because I'd like to see the day when I earn enough points to get a Starbucks gift card. It kind of helps put a positive twist on a not-so-enjoyable job: the more diapers you change, the closer you are towards a free latte or mocha! :)

PSST! Through the end of December, you can get free shipping on all the rewards offered. Plus, go here for some free codes you can use to help boost your points a bit.

I sit on my points and wait for the free diaper coupons. They seem to go fast when they have them listed, but I keep checking once a week until they’re offered again, and then snatch them up. The free coupon comes in handy for getting to $30 to use a 5/30 at CVS!

I have used this program for the last two years of diapering (I’m also a huge pampers snob) and the best value I have gotten has been the shutterfly calendar and photo books. I’ve used them for mother’s day gifts and it’s always a favorite.

I have girls and prefer Huggies, and my friend with a boy preferred Pampers. My girls are skinny and the Huggies seem to be a snugger fit, I think Pampers are roomier for chubbier babies. But, once you get past the exclusively breastfed stage, I find Target brand or CVS work fine. Costco diapers seem to me equally as good as Huggies for any stage.

Thanks for this info I’ve been saving points for almost 2 years now and just haven’t used them because of the shipping cost!! Of course I don’t buy many pampers due to their wonderful discovery center in Cincinnati, where we get paid to use the pampers they test!!!

Thanks for the codes, Crystal!

Cool program- we’re Huggies snobs! LOL!

Renee Cordle December 17, 2008 at 2:23 pm

Does anyone know how much the shipping normally runs on the gift cards?

K December 17, 2008 at 2:23 pm

I got thirty dollars in gift cards a few months ago and shipping was free.

Belinda December 17, 2008 at 2:23 pm

Thanks!

I would be a “Huggies” snob! I once had a friend whose theory was that Pampers were better for girls and Huggies for boys??? Perhaps that’s true in our cases!

What a cool program for Pampers. In case anyone missed it…amazing deal on Huggies this week at Kroger

No Starbucks Cards left. Just a heads up! No movie cash either. I usually use my points on something for my kids and give it as a gift for b-day or Christmas but I didn’t see anything too interesting so I’m just going to keep saving for now.

Jamie Lyn December 17, 2008 at 2:53 pm

Thanks for the link to the promotional codes…I needed 7 more points for a gift I’d planned for Christmas (Shutterfly calendar), but was waiting for a good deal to buy the two packs of diapers I’d need…I was starting to think I wouldn’t make it before Christmas!

Liz December 17, 2008 at 3:10 pm

I saved up my points to get the little kids trike! It was only 14 and some change for shipping. Not a bad deal I thought.

Have you tried cloth?

Hate to be a cloth snob, but I’m surprised that as a money saving mom with a child who has sensitivities you haven’t taken the dive into cloth diapering – frugal, eco-friendly, no harsh chemicals for their sensitive bums, and you don’t have to worry about entering points into anything to $ave, $ave, $ave!

Carrie from SpringsBargains.com December 17, 2008 at 4:01 pm

Maybe I shouldn’t admit this, but I collect the points and then sell them on ebay! I *usually* get enough on ebay to figure I “save” an additional dollar off each package. I haven’t bought Pampers much lately, but I love the Swaddlers for newborn poop! :)

Andrea December 17, 2008 at 4:19 pm

I’m so glad you mentioned this! Since we started cloth diapering our second and our first is now potty-trained I forgot the points I had accumulated. I got on the site this afternoon and cashed them in for a Shutterfly collage poster which will be a Christmas present for my parents as well as the photo prints package which will be a gift toward my in-laws. Awesome! I was having a hard time trying to figure out what to get all of them on our budget and this solved the problem! =)

Martha Artyomenko December 17, 2008 at 4:23 pm

Oh, I never use cloth no matter how money concious I am….I would waste money on paying for water, plus have to deal with the bodily waste is so gross to me!

Money Saving Mom December 17, 2008 at 4:23 pm

Jessica: Yep, we did cloth with our first–pretty much exclusively. It saved a lot of money and I was a die-hard promoter of cloth diapers.

Then I had a second child. With our second, cloth did not work AT ALL. We tried many different kinds and ways and it just didn’t work–the diapers broke her out like crazy and were forever leaking, she was miserable, and I was so frustrated about it. I wanted so badly to use cloth and I just couldn’t make it work.

I finally realized how silly I was being: using cloth diapers doesn’t always work for everyone and I’m not a failure as a mom if I don’t use them! :) And so I ditched that bright idea and switched over to disposables. And honestly? I’ve been much happier about it–once I got over my initial guilt.

Maybe I’ll go back to cloth sometime in the future. But for right now and the foreseeable future, disposables are what work for us. And I’m completely okay with that!

Chelssya December 17, 2008 at 6:14 pm

Isn’t it funny how different things work well for different folks? Everytime I’ve used Pampers on my boys they’d wake up with wet sheets and diaper rashes. We primarily use cloth, but when we use disposables, the only ones weI’ll use are Huggies Supremes. We haven’t had luck with anything else.

Kendra December 17, 2008 at 6:56 pm

This is a funny thread! We hate Huggies diapers because they always come undone. Can’t bear to pay Pampers prices, and have been completely happy with store brand cheapies for all 8 babies!

However, I am a complete Huggies wipes snob :)

I love this program. I saved for about a year until I could get the photo book to record my daughter’s first year. This year the Oprah book offer came out through Snapfish just before I hit the 100 pt mark at Pampers so I used that for her 2nd year book. Now I’m thinking I’ll save my points until next year for her 3rd year book! Unless of course something more appealing appears or they threaten to take the program away.

sandy December 17, 2008 at 8:13 pm

We too love Pampers and collect points. I belong to a Freecycle.com group and another woman sends me her points, so they stack up quickly! For those who don’t use the points, you can ask them to save their numbers.
