The screenings offered by Walgreen’s and other health fairs are an excellent opportunity for people to receive preventive health screenings at little to no cost. Unfortunately, these screenings are not available everywhere. There are also FDA-approved home tests for a variety of diseases that are available at some pharmacies and online home health screening companies. These home tests can be an affordable alternative especially for the increasing numbers on uninsured and under-insured.

I’m a Nurse Practitioner at a Take Care Clinic, and love the concept of our clinic. It may be that they were only stopping at present or future sites of clinics – I’m not sure. But I do know that at $59-74 per visit (if you don’t have insurance), our clinics are a good deal for health care.

Interesting schedule – they’ve have a bazillion stops in Delaware, none in Maryland and very, very few in Pennsylvania – whatever!

The tests were simple, I would assume that you could opt out of any you didn’t feel comfortable with. When I went, it was like this:

Step into the first little part and the gentleman did a fingerstick (painless) to get my blood glucose and my cholesterol. Get a bandaid.

Step into the second little area, and they did Blood Pressure reading, when I was finished she did BMI & Body Fat Percentage (I’ve done this at the gym before, you just stand with your arms out and hold this little device, and they measure your waist as well)

Step into the last section – you remove a shoe and place your foot in this ultrasound machine for your Bone Density.

Then they print out your results on a sticker and send you back out to the front, where someone explains what is what to you and gives you a bag of goodies.

I wonder why they are only going to Orlando in Florida? We have Walgreens stores on every corner from Key West to Tallahassee!

The bus is set up in 3 different booths plus a waiting area. First a girl got blood from my finger. The next booth the girl measure my waist, took blood pressure and had me hold a wheel looking thing. Last booth you put your foot in a machine to measure your bone density. I would guess they would let you skip some parts. Nancy

Do you know what is involved in each screening? And is there a way to do some of the screenings, but not all of them?
