Amazon.com: Get a FREE $10 credit–Today Only!

by crystal on July 28, 2008

Thanks to MaryEllen for passing along this really cool deal from SlickDeals.net that is good through today only:

Sign up for a free one-month trial of Amazon Prime at this link and you’ll get a $10 credit towards your next order (new Amazon Prime members only)! Amazon Prime is a service that gives you free two-day shipping on all orders from Amazon.com. THIS PROMOTION HAS NOW EXPIRED!

After you sign up, just log into your account and click the button that
says "Do Not Upgrade Automatically". Your free trial will automatically
be canceled after a month and you won’t be billed anything, but you’ll get a free $10 credit at Amazon.com just for trying out the service!

You can use your $10 credit on anything available through Amazon. I recommend that you find something for $10 or less–you’ll get it entirely free since Amazon Prime gives you free shipping! Your credit will show up when you go to check out. Have fun shopping!

(If you want to really make my day, order your free $10 item through my link below and I’ll make a little kickback, too. And it won’t cost you anything!)

*IMPORTANT*
I normally do not promote free trials here because I don’t want anyone to forget to cancel their trial and then get billed. However, this free trial is super easy to cancel so I am mentioning it. Please remember to change your account to not upgrade as soon as you sign up, though, or you will be billed $79 annually.

Do we need to buy something this month or will the credit still be there say closer to christmas shopping time?

Just a note that if you have been a member before of Amazon Prime, you won’t get the $10. You have to be a new member. I used to have prime and canceled after the first year.

I just tried it and it says that promotion is over, am I doing something wrong?

When I try to sign up it says the offer has expired, here’s the current offer and there is no $10 gift card offer. I guess I missed it.

[Reply]

11 Finance Girl July 28, 2008 at 3:14 pm

You don’t really see the credit anywhere, but when you add something to the cart, there’s a box checked that says something like “Use $10 Promotional Credit.”

Thanks for posting this, Crystal!

There is no mention of the $10 discount. It did not come off at the check out. Bummer

how do you see the $10 credit in your account?

[Reply]

18 Money Saving Mom July 28, 2008 at 3:36 pm

If the $10 credit is not showing when you try to check out, it won’t come off your order so don’t proceed with the checkout. Unless you just want to spend the money without getting the discount, which I don’t advise. ;)

My guess is that if the discount isn’t showing up for you, you may have already signed up for an Amazon Prime account sometime in the past and it’s not crediting you for signing up for a new account. Or, perhaps you didn’t click through the first link in the post (the bold link which says, “free one-month trial of Amazon Prime at this link”) and completely fill out the form and sign up.

If it’s neither of those two things, I don’t know what to tell you. But it *is* working for a number of people, so if you can’t get it to work the first time, maybe try going through the sign-up process again? Or maybe someone else has some other ideas?

it worked for me thanks! It wouldn’t work at first because I had my po box for shipping… Just took me a minute to figure it out. (:
Melissa and Doug wooden toys have a lot that fall in that $10 price range.

For those having difficulty – try again. It didn’t work for me the first time, but DID the second time. I didn’t change anything I did either. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again!!

Thanks Crystal! I was able to get a free Playskool toy for a baby shower I am attending next week. That along with the sample bottle we got in the mail last week will make a great gift and didn’t cost me anything!

27 alisha July 28, 2008 at 4:45 pm

For whatever reason it would not give me the $10 credit. I will not try again. You can go to “Your Account” and cancel an order if you accidentally bought something without the ten dollars taken off. I had to cancel my order when it tried to bill me the price of the item. Hope this helps someone.

****************
Money Saving Mom here: I thought I should clarify again that the credit will show up right *before* you checkout. Do not checkout if the credit is not showing up unless you are okay with paying for the item and not getting the $10 discount. Instead, if the credit is not showing up, try signing up again and then going to your checkout page again to see if it is showing up.

28 Laura July 28, 2008 at 5:01 pm

My $10 didn’t show up either at checkout even though I was a new Prime member so I just emailed Amazon and they promptly credited my account!

[Reply]

33 Robin July 28, 2008 at 6:58 pm

FYI… for people that can’t get the $10 credit to show up… make sure when you are viewing the description for any item (while you are shopping) that at the top it says “eligible for Amazon prime.” The first thing I tried to buy was a pool toy, but it would actually be shipped from Target.com through Amazon and wouldn’t qualify. I got to checkout and it didn’t show the $10 credit. So you have to keep trying different “needs” on your list to see if it will work. ALSO, make sure you have “2 day shipping” selected or standard shipping, or it won’t be free. Hope this helps.

Wow! I found this on babycheapskate.com (they linked it back to you, but I used your link for the kickback *wink*) and this is so great! Thanks so much for posting this!

[Reply]

35 Christy July 28, 2008 at 7:13 pm

Another thing to note is that the $10 credit applies only to items sold by Amazon.com. There are many items on their website that are actually sold by other vendors. When viewing an item, under the pricing information, it’ll say whether the item is In stock or not. It will also specify “shipped from and sold by Amazon.com” or another vendor. HTH

37 Jaycie July 28, 2008 at 7:40 pm

I signed up for the Prime and it worked great! I bought some Hodgson Mills bread mixes. I signed up for the “Subscribe and Save” option for that product and got them for $1.53 out of pocket for 6 mixes! (With S&S plans, you can cancel immediately under Your Account and still get the discount.) It ended up being about $.26 a box. I’ll save these for after I have my baby and don’t have the time to make the mixes from scratch. Thanks MSM for the tip!! :)

To cancel your account, click on “Your Account,” and then click on “Do Not Upgrade Automatically” (or something like that – it’s next to the green text), and then click on “Turn Automatic Upgrade Off”

I was just told by an Amazon rep that even though I signed up on the right day, I cannot get the credit because the link to sign up was not emailed to me directly. So the credit did not show up when I was ordering. But sounds like some people were able to get it to work- just check and make sure your credit is showing up, I guess.
